How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“My husband and I were looking for a high value, reasonably-priced venue in the Brookly area and we found it in DEITY. We were immediately impressed by DEITY wedding packages. We were able to find a package that best fit our vision and budget. It’s really hard to imagine that we could have gotten a better deal for our money anywhere else, especially when you consider that the tax is already baked in upfront without any hidden surprises. “I went to the open house last year and fell in love with the Venue at First sight. The grass, pecan trees, citrus trees, and then 40,000 lights sold the deal. We got married on 5/25/24, with almost all guests flying in. Every guest commented on how romantic the venue was. Stephanie and Ben were the best; they were both very professional and provided their expertise when needed. I can't forget how the ceremony went perfectly due to the support and always encouraging staff, especially Ben. Ensemble Catering is a part of the venue, and being that I have mostly foodie friends, everyone thought the food was delicious. The late-night Fries and Cookie Wall were discussed for the next few days when guests called to say how much they enjoyed the evening. Another consideration in my 5-star review is that the vendors in the package and on their website were just as great to work with. My husband and I are so grateful to everyone who worked that day and all the others who helped plan and make it the best day of our lives. “TL;DR - there is plenty of space, the acoustics are awesome, the amenities are plenty and of great quality, and the staff is very friendly and helpful! They have some rules due to the historic nature of the building, but they weren't a problem and the owners will help you figure things out. We rented this space for our wedding. We chose it for a few reasons: -it's very spacious, but the acoustics were still incredible -it's in the middle of town -hotels are a short drive away, plenty of rides available -there is a small lift for those with mobility issues (we had a couple) -the facilities were all clean and new -it is climate-controlled They also supply plenty of chairs and tables, and offer a handful of lighting options (at additional cost) that really make the space feel comfy and welcoming. It's worth noting that Olio is based in a historic building, so there are rules in place to protect the walls, floors, and everything overhead. We didn't find the rules to be a problem, and the owner, Sarah, was very communicative and happy to work with us to satisfy both their rules and our vision. It is also worth noting that, for catering, Olio has a catalog of their own partnered/approved vendors (all full-service) that are trained to work within the rules of the venue. Caterers were available at multiple price points and a variety of cuisines to give plenty of options for people. There is an option to bring in other vendors, but at additional cost due to training. We went with Vinwood Caterers (from their catalog) for our wedding, and were absolutely blown away with the quality of their food and service. Back to the venue itself... When looking online, the pictures were all stunning, but the idea of getting married in a room with concrete walls was admittedly a little off-putting. Once we visited in person, though, we immediately fell in love with it. The nice view of Main Street through the windows and the natural lighting (and later the market lighting and up-lighting) really make the place feel more warm and welcoming than you might expect. There was virtually zero echo in there despite it being so big and open, and the patterning of the concrete is weirdly charming in person, probably thanks to the warm lighting. Pair that with good A/C in the summer and the other things listed above, and we were sold! On the big day, it all paid off and the space felt just as warm and welcoming as we'd hoped. Full-service catering was expensive, but they took care of almost literally everything - including setting up, moving, and breaking down furniture throughout the event - and still provided top notch food and drink. Well worth the cost to not stress about managing all the furniture ourselves and getting out on time. The venue's staff were there to make sure everything was working and kept us informed of things before and during the event. Overall - very glad we went with Olio despite the restrictions. Well worth the time and money for probably the best day of our lives yet!”

“We had the most beautiful wedding at The Boylston Rooms. From the moment we first spoke with Erin and Myles we know this would be the venue we would choose. They saw our vision and really went above and beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. We were thrilled to be able to utilize their massive library of decorations and supplies to avoid having to purchase a ton of decorative elements and we donated the things we did end up purchasing so that they didnt end up sitting in our house (or worse, a landfill!) Myles and Erin both made absolutely certain that we got to enjoy every moment, including our food, and that we got to spend a moment alone together right after the ceremony to celebrate. Alyssa was by my side all day as my biggest cheerleader. I'm an emotional person who doesn't love being the center of attention. She had the most reassuring presence and all kinds of tricks up her sleeve. I will never forget her helping me take deep breaths, holding a cold can of Diet Coke on my chest to help calm me down. The Boylston Rooms made our wedding day so special, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We probably could've had a beautiful wedding anywhere if we had been willing to dedicate our entire lives to it for the year prior or shell out thousands of dollars for a planner and coordinator. But at The Boylston Rooms we didnt have to do either. We had a gorgeous wedding and it was affordable but above all it was effortless. With their help? We would do it again in a heartbeat.”

“My mother and I had a joint celebration of our birthdays around late September last year. The venue was everything we could have dreamed of. Since it is situated in Roosevelt Island, it was the perfect venue to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and yet still get a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. “Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Watson Block's intimate space and Art Deco vibes was perfect for our small (50 guests) wedding. Gaby was so easy to work with, being extremely communicative, professional, and patient with all the questions we had throughout the process. Watson Block's relationships with its partner caterers also made it a one-stop shop for our venue, food, and bar needs. “We could not have been happier with our decision to get married at Walden! From the moment we booked our date, the planning process was made seamless and actually enjoyable thanks to the incredible built-in planning team, Kalila and Ally. Having coordinators included in the cost of the venue was such a valuable bonus, and they truly made all the difference. Kalila and Ally were there with us every step of the way, staying on top of every detail for our 18-month engagement/wedding planning journey. They reached out to vendors, followed up on our behalf when needed, and offered spot-on recommendations that perfectly suited our vision and budget. Their guidance and expertise helped us make the best choices, and their input kept us calm and organized. On top of their professionalism, they were so down-to-earth and fun to work with, bringing energy and laughter to every planning session and making the entire experience even more memorable. One of the highlights was the collaborative online planning tool we had access to as part of booking Walden. It kept everything organized in one place, allowing us to easily stay in touch with our planners, track tasks, and manage finances and contracts. It was loaded with helpful resources, making planning a breeze. Walden provided us with much more than a beautiful venue. They gave us an incredible planning experience and an amazing team that felt like family by the time the wedding arrived. The entire wedding party and all the family members who were there the entire day of the wedding had nothing but amazing things to say too...they were all shocked at how much support we had throughout the entire day to the point where we did not have to lift a finger. And don't even get us started on the food and bar...we've never been complimented more in our lives. We were shocked at how insanely good the food and drinks were at our tasting party months before the wedding, but we were curious if it would live up to the hype on our actual wedding day where we had 216 guests. It might've been even better on our wedding day! Guests were raving about our food and drinks. We were told by nearly every guest that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding, bar none. We even had sober people come up to us and go on and on about how amazing even the mocktails were. The only thing we regret is being too excited and not having enough of an appetite to truly enjoy dinner as the bride and groom. But even so, our planning team made sure the servers packaged up our entrees so we could take them home a few days later when we came back to the venue to pick up our belongings. Honestly, there are a million other reasons why we'd recommend Walden for your wedding venue, but this is already getting to be too long of a review. Basically, if you’re looking for an all-inclusive venue where you’re genuinely taken care of every step of the way, we cannot recommend Walden highly enough! Thank you, Kalila and Ally, the entire bar/service staff, and truly just everyone at Walden for helping make our wedding day everything we dreamed of and more! “This venue is beautiful!! We got married here in April (Mountainside ceremony, Colorado room cocktail hour and Albert’s lodge reception). It was the perfect Colorado backdrop for our out of town guests. The venue provides the chairs for ceremony, shuttle services between the ceremony and reception, and kept the fireplaces running throughout the night but the external vendors take care of pretty much everything else. Just remember that because of preferred/required vendors everything adds up quickly! We did have a great experience with all of the recommended and required vendors. The one thing I would have changed about the venue is if they could have opened the Colorado room wall/doors. It was 80 degrees but they don’t open them until after May 1.”
