How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

We were able to find a package that best fit our vision and budget. It's particularly beautiful for a fall/winter "dinner party" vibe (which is what we were looking for) with the dark wood and dim lights. “We had our wedding at The Villa at Ridder on 8/23/25, and everything was absolutely perfect! From the moment we first toured the venue, we knew it was the right place for us, it’s beautiful, elegant, and not insanely expensive. The staff made the entire process so easy and stress-free. They were professional, attentive, and incredibly organized, which made our day run seamlessly. We worked with Lexie, Brianna, and Kristen. Every detail was handled smoothly, and we didn’t have to worry about a thing. The food was delicious, and our guests are still raving about how much they enjoyed it. You have to do the European deserts because those were delicious. The Villa truly exceeded our expectations and gave us the wedding day we had always hoped for. They even worked with us to accommodate some Ukrainian traditions and if you have foreign family that are worried, trust me you’re in good hands. We can’t recommend The Saphire Event Group enough it’s the perfect place to celebrate such a special occasion! I’d also recommend doing the inclusive package, the dj and florist were awesome.”

“If you’re considering the Walden as your venue, let this be your sign to book with them. The space is huge, the ambiance is warm and industrial, the food is insanely good, unlike any other “traditional” wedding venue, and the best part, the planning team. We had the pleasure of working with Sydni and Alyssa who essentially planned our wedding from scratch within a 6 month span. They are extremely organized and professional, while also being relatable and honest. Our guest count was 254, which is not a very forgiving number of people to coordinate, especially when the couple (us) seem to be allergic to making decisions in a timely matter. Sydni and Alyssa navigated any obstacles that arose with grace and ultimately organized a wedding that was beyond what we could’ve expected. Founded in 1814, The West Boylston Company was a large textile manufacturer in West Boylston, MA. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. “We had the most beautiful wedding at The Boylston Rooms. From the moment we first spoke with Erin and Myles we know this would be the venue we would choose. They saw our vision and really went above and beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. We were thrilled to be able to utilize their massive library of decorations and supplies to avoid having to purchase a ton of decorative elements and we donated the things we did end up purchasing so that they didnt end up sitting in our house (or worse, a landfill!) Myles and Erin both made absolutely certain that we got to enjoy every moment, including our food, and that we got to spend a moment alone together right after the ceremony to celebrate. Alyssa was by my side all day as my biggest cheerleader. I'm an emotional person who doesn't love being the center of attention. She had the most reassuring presence and all kinds of tricks up her sleeve. I will never forget her helping me take deep breaths, holding a cold can of Diet Coke on my chest to help calm me down. The Boylston Rooms made our wedding day so special, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We probably could've had a beautiful wedding anywhere if we had been willing to dedicate our entire lives to it for the year prior or shell out thousands of dollars for a planner and coordinator. But at The Boylston Rooms we didnt have to do either. We had a gorgeous wedding and it was affordable but above all it was effortless. With their help? We would do it again in a heartbeat.”

“TEN REASONS TO BOOK THIS VENUE (even before seeing it in person!) We booked sight unseen to get our preferred date, and the venue is only better in person! 1. Truly all inclusive and QUALITY services/ care. The Summit Team is responsive, flexible, professional, and kind. The local vendors they connect you with are detail oriented and make your vision come to life. We used their florist, DJ, caterer, baker, and photographer. We were thrilled with all of those services! The packages come with a coordinator and planner. They are incredible and make your life SO easy! I had no idea how much a would utilize these services. 2. There is no shortage of adorable decorations for you to choose from, so you save a ton of money by using what they provide (comes with the package) The Summit team sets it up and breaks it down for you. I’m particular and was honest about not liking burlap or lace. They really listened and made sure the style was exactly what I wanted. They have everything available to you on their Pinterest so it was easy to make decor selections. 3. The absolute best mountain view in North GA!!!! And there is no road noise. You might hear a ‘moo’ from the cows grazing on the hill. We toured a ton of venues and felt that a lot of them were too noisy or that parking/ layout was limiting for our handicapped guests. Summit is conveniently laid out and everything is accessible. We didn’t have to hike a mile to get beautiful photos. 4. The food is excellent! We had the Granny’s style menu and guests raved about it! Our cake was also gorgeous. They provided everything needed for dinnerware and refreshments and kept the drink stand replenished all evening while we danced! 5. It’s convenient from the ATL airport, and there’s plenty to do for guests traveling. Our family did a local wine tour. Tube the Cartecay if the weather permits! Some of our guests rented cabins and others stayed at the Hilton in downtown Blue Ridge (we provided a shuttle) and it worked out nicely for everyone! 6. The on-site accommodation (The Lewis House) is adorable! They also help you with recommendations for local accommodations/ transportation if your guests are traveling. 7. Our dog was able to be a part of our photos and ceremony! We only needed someone to take him back to the cabin for the reception. 8. Our loved ones got to enjoy the day with us. I’ve been in plenty of weddings where we worked all day and didn’t get to enjoy the celebration. The Summit Team gave our family and friends the space to cherish our day. 9. We selected the Apple Package upgrades, and our guests loved the boxed apple pies as favors. This was one less thing on our list and I would highly recommend the investment! 10. I enjoyed my wedding. “Green Acres Event center was absolutely gorgeous! It caught our eyes online and we immediately wanted to see it in person! We went and toured, were greeted by friendly staff and showed around the property! From the beauty of the barn on the outside the the gorgeous detailing and sparkle from the chandeliers on the inside all the way to the stunning bridal suite, we knew when we walked through the doors this was our wedding venue! Robyn was absolutely amazing to work with from any questions I had while planning all the way through the day of. She made the day seem seamless and even helped me stay calm in the chaos! I would choose this venue over and over again! Our guests loved it and had wonderful time! The only complaint we heard is that they wished there was a bathroom on the second floor where the dinner and dancing was but other than that we had no complaints! “The Oviatt made planning and enjoying our wedding exceptionally easy, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to another couple. In fact, two of our friends who'd recently gotten married at The Oviatt were the ones to recommend us the venue in the first place. They did not steer us wrong. The initial touring and on-boarding process was seamless and attentive. We got clear answers to all of our questions and concerns, and the team had no trouble making adjustments as things evolved. The venue-related fees were all extremely reasonable for what you're getting, and we felt it was a tremendous value. If you are someone who's overwhelmed by the planning of it all or doesn't have it in you to evaluate the hundreds of vendors out there, The Oviatt can streamline things through their vetted preferred vendors list. We used this extensively and had a similarly excellent experience with everyone we hired, from catering to photographers to floral. We were also able to find vendors from this list that were able to realize our vision while meeting our budget, which was healthy and had some breathing room but was not exorbitant. We had a lot of extremely specific and arguably unusual requests that the venue team was happy to accommodate, even the week of. They were also there to troubleshoot when we encountered inevitable obstacles during the planning process. The venue itself is as stunning as the photos promise. They've recently been doing some historic refurbishment/restoration work, and the results speak for themselves. We wanted an art deco jewel box, and we got that and more. The penthouse elevator made for a grand entrance statement, and the furnishings gave the proceedings opulence to spare. While there was some concern with how we'd fit 90 guests into the interior spaces for cocktail hour while the terrace was turned over for the reception, we found it actually wasn't any trouble at all. The upper deck remained available and allowed for natural crowd control. The scene was lively and exciting, to be sure, but never uncomfortable. We really can't say enough kind things. The staff on the day were incredible, the attention to detail was immaculate, and everything went as perfectly as one can hope.”

“We got married at the Red Barn in June 2025 and can't say enough good things about the wedding and the Red Barn staff. At every interaction, they went above and beyond for us. The venue is absolutely stunning and I loved that there were so many options for taking photos. We also stayed at the Stage House Inn and did our rehearsal lunch there, which made the whole experience easy and seamless for ourselves and guests. One thing future bride/grooms will understand is how overwhelming starting wedding planning can be, and how hard it is to figure out pricing for all your vendors. I've heard horror stories from girlfriends on hidden fees and surprise costs. The Red Barn was so transparent on costs from the start, which was a huge differentiator for me. We worked with Alex and Colleen and they were both fantastic- so organized and communicative. As someone who didn't have a dedicated planner, it was invaluable to have Colleen available to help plan our day. Colleen was on top of my 10,000 emailed questions and put me at ease in the days leading up to the wedding. Everything went so well, our guests had a great time and we owe that to the Red Barn and the staff! Big shout out to Moe as well who made sure the groom and I were well fed and always had a cocktail in hand (and a smile on our faces!). “Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“We had our wedding at Saphire Estate in Sharon, MA, and it was everything we hoped for and more. We chose the venue because it gave us that dreamy garden-meets-New England charm that we really missed living in Florida, plus it’s right across from a beautiful lake that made for stunning scenery. From the very first interaction, Stephanie and Gianna were effective, friendly, and thoughtful in their communication, making the planning process a breeze. The value they provided was excellent - not only is the venue itself beautifully appointed, but so many conveniences were included for the price that it made our day run that much more smoothly. For example, Stephanie recommended we skip the traditional first dances and family speeches and instead just dance our guests right into the dining room to a small surprise set from our band! This really kicked off the party in a fun and lively way which set the tone for the entire night. Absolutely wonderful to work with, Stephanie and Gianna are true professionals, and all we had to do as the couple was show up and leave the rest to them.
