How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We live in Massachusetts but my husband is from Sarasota so we wanted to get married in Florida. Bakers Ranch made everything so easy especially since we were from out of town. The entire planning process was relatively stress free because they include and help with so much. The fact that I had someone to email with and ask questions the entire year of planning was huge. Missy was our day of coordinator and she made sure everything ran smoothly. It really took away stress on the wedding day. They provide almost all vendors but you still get a choice (shout out to DJ Rafael with Grant Hemond, Blue Water Catering & Tampa Bay Cake Co). While we wished there was an additional dinner catering option (there were only 2) we were still very happy with Blue Water. They can also help with outside vendors and give recommendations. I highly recommend this venue and it felt like the best bang for our buck!”

“From the moment we stepped in to the event office to just sit down and see what they had to offer, We knew this is where we wanted to get married! Everyone was so welcoming and easy to talk to. We were given a timeline as to when we had to have certain things done and when we should schedule the next appointment. We ended up ahead of the game, which put all the anxieties at ease. Our event coordinator was Alex, she was absolutely amazing! So personable and caring. I went in having absolutely nothing planned other than my colors, and she helped us put everything g together with such ease. We got married at Lawnhaven, and all of our guests were throughly impressed with the event in its entirety. They made it so easy to put the menu together and fined vendors with their tasting events. “We had our wedding at the Milestone Mansion on 10/31/2025. The venue is amazing and beautiful. From the moment we toured it, we knew that we wanted to book there. They have both outdoor options for a ceremony as well as an indoor option. We held our ceremony outdoor, down by the gazebo. Then our cocktail hour on the patio, and reception in the ballroom. It was the perfect day. The staff on day of was spectacular, and have heard nothing but good days. We worked with Melissa throughout our planning process and she was great. Was always able to answer questions and accommodating. We added on the day of coordination and had Melissa run our day. Would highly recommend anyone to do that. She took care of all the nitty gritty and we got to enjoy our day completely. It is very apparent that Melissa loves what she does and is very passionate about it. We are not aware of any issues or things that came up, and we have to believe its because she handled everything. She set up our decor and ran our timeline for us. They offer multiple all inclusive packages that can fit anyone's needs, as well as add-on features. I think they are able to fit what anyone is looking for, as they are accommodating and flexible. We switched out one of ours beers in our bar package for a seltzer, and that was a hit. The food was delicious and the bartenders provided great service for our guests.”

“My husband and I were looking for a high value, reasonably-priced venue in the Brookly area and we found it in DEITY. We were immediately impressed by DEITY wedding packages. We were able to find a package that best fit our vision and budget. It’s really hard to imagine that we could have gotten a better deal for our money anywhere else, especially when you consider that the tax is already baked in upfront without any hidden surprises. DEITY is amazing, we couldn’t have picked a better venue for our small and intimate wedding. The food was excellent, the table setup was perfect with the family style setting. The Chef was so hospitable, he stopped by to make sure we were pleased with the food. “We couldn't be happier with how our wedding at the Chicago Winery turned out! We booked our date before CW construction was fully complete, but we loved everything about the space from the very beginning. It is an incredibly warm and inviting venue that was perfect for our day - we absolutely loved the ceremony/reception space but also really enjoyed having the terrace space for cocktail hour and as a quieter area during the reception for guests to step out while the band was playing. We had about 170 people at our event, and it was the perfect number for the space. One of the big selling points for us was that CW handles all food and drink onsite and everything was WONDERFUL. One of the top compliments we received from guests was how good the food was. The CW team made us feel special and celebrated throughout the entire process and were very flexible and accommodating based on our various needs. We had the pleasure of working with Hulda, the CW event coordinator, in the months leading up to our wedding and cannot say enough great things about her!! Hulda was very responsive and easy to communicate with. She answered all of our random questions and made us feel at ease with all of the details. “We got married a week ago at Walden and I cannot say enough about how positive an experience it was! Krystle and Alyssa (our dream team of planners) were our saviors throughout the entire planning process. I hadn't planned on using a full service planner until I found out Walden included them in the venue rental and now I can't imagine planning a wedding without them! They truly made the entire process fun, even during the more stressful parts. The rest of the Walden team is equally as amazing - the catering staff delivered some of "the best food we've ever had at a wedding," as many of our guests raved to us! The bar team also ran such an efficient operation that there was rarely ever a line for drinks, so rare at a wedding! Both teams worked with us to accommodate special requests and really felt like they prioritized making our day feel unique and special. The space itself is gorgeous and requires very little extra decoration, which is a great money saver! The separate spaces for ceremony, cocktail, and reception really made each part of the evening feel special. One of my favorite parts was the getting ready room - so rare to find in a Chicago city venue! My girls and I all had the best time getting ready in the space and it made for a very relaxing morning to already be on site. I could write 1,000 more words about how amazing this venue is but trust me when I say that if you want to alleviate as much stress from planning your big day as possible - Walden is the venue for you!!”

“Olio was the first (and only) wedding venue we toured. Immediately following our tour, my partner and I cancelled all tours/meetings with other venues - we knew that if we were going to have a wedding, it had to be at Olio. Sarah and the Olio team ALWAYS met us with genuine enthusiasm and kindness. All communications with Olio were authentic, seamless, and enjoyable. Founded in 1814, The West Boylston Company was a large textile manufacturer in West Boylston, MA. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “Having our wedding at The Wheeler House made for such an amazing and stress-free day. We loved that The Wheeler House included a caterer, DJ, and cake—it truly felt like a one-stop shop. Having so many major vendors already included made the planning process much easier and far less overwhelming. They also provide a list of preferred vendors for photography, florals, makeup, and transportation, which made selecting the remaining vendors incredibly easy. I booked one of their preferred floral vendors, and it was such a great experience since they already knew the space, the layout, and what would look best for the overall design. We also booked one of their preferred transportation vendors, which was just as convenient because they were familiar with the property and logistics, making everything run effortlessly. The entire staff at The Wheeler House was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and consistently positive from the moment we booked through our wedding day. Having one location for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception kept the day flowing beautifully. We also loved having both indoor and outdoor options. We had a winter wedding, and while the southern weather allowed us to be outside, knowing we had a stunning indoor backup option gave us so much peace of mind during planning in case of rain or colder temperatures. We also booked The Wheeler House cottages for our wedding weekend, which made getting ready and overnight accommodations extremely convenient. Having our family and bridal party together all weekend made the experience even more special. While The Wheeler House may initially seem more expensive, we absolutely got our money’s worth. Because so much is included, we had fewer vendors to coordinate on our own, which saved us time, stress, and additional costs. If you’re looking for a beautiful venue in North Georgia that offers incredible value and includes so many essentials, I highly recommend The Wheeler House.”

“The Oviatt made planning and enjoying our wedding exceptionally easy, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to another couple. In fact, two of our friends who'd recently gotten married at The Oviatt were the ones to recommend us the venue in the first place. They did not steer us wrong. The initial touring and on-boarding process was seamless and attentive. We got clear answers to all of our questions and concerns, and the team had no trouble making adjustments as things evolved. The venue-related fees were all extremely reasonable for what you're getting, and we felt it was a tremendous value. If you are someone who's overwhelmed by the planning of it all or doesn't have it in you to evaluate the hundreds of vendors out there, The Oviatt can streamline things through their vetted preferred vendors list. We used this extensively and had a similarly excellent experience with everyone we hired, from catering to photographers to floral. We were also able to find vendors from this list that were able to realize our vision while meeting our budget, which was healthy and had some breathing room but was not exorbitant. We had a lot of extremely specific and arguably unusual requests that the venue team was happy to accommodate, even the week of. They were also there to troubleshoot when we encountered inevitable obstacles during the planning process. The venue itself is as stunning as the photos promise. They've recently been doing some historic refurbishment/restoration work, and the results speak for themselves. We wanted an art deco jewel box, and we got that and more. The penthouse elevator made for a grand entrance statement, and the furnishings gave the proceedings opulence to spare. While there was some concern with how we'd fit 90 guests into the interior spaces for cocktail hour while the terrace was turned over for the reception, we found it actually wasn't any trouble at all. The upper deck remained available and allowed for natural crowd control. The scene was lively and exciting, to be sure, but never uncomfortable. We really can't say enough kind things. The staff on the day were incredible, the attention to detail was immaculate, and everything went as perfectly as one can hope.”

“We had our wedding at The Red Barn this past May and everything was beyond perfect! Our wedding coordinator, Alex was so on top of everything during the planning stages and throughout the wedding itself. She is so incredible and we feel so lucky to have worked with her! The entire staff at The Red Barn was so amazing as well. The space is stunning and the food and drinks were incredible. We truly cannot say enough good things about The Red Barn! We had our reception and ceremony indoors and the fireplace backdrop was absolutely perfect. The space itself is beautiful and we really didn’t feel that we needed to do a ton of decorating which lessened stress and saved us on decor costs. However, all we really had to do was drop off what decorations we did have and Alex and her team took care of set up and breakdown with our vendors. We really didn’t have a single worry the weekend of the wedding. The amazing staff at The Red Barn took care of it all. We also stayed at Stage House Inn the weekend of the wedding and got ready there. Darien was a pleasure to work with and made coordinating room blocks so easy! The bridal suite comfortably fit all the girls getting ready (12 total people) plus 4 hair and makeup girls. It was also the perfect room for getting ready photos! We held our rehearsal lunch at The Links restaurant and the staff was so accommodating! We had a last minute reservation for around 25 and they took us no problem. Excellent and affordable food and drinks! Overall we had a perfect experience with every aspect of The Red Barn. We absolutely would recommend it to anyone looking for the perfect spot for their wedding!”

“Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Not only was Christine present the day of, but the staff was also on their A game all night long. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and kind, we felt like royalty. We both highly recommend this venue and if you do, definitely get the Schnitzel, Prost! The only recommendation to the venue would be to update their beverage packages to include seltzers such as High noons or White claws. “Great place, great venue, great staff and great time!!! What more could someone ask for on their wedding day? Absolutely nothing…I would tell everyone to have their special events here. Each staff member I spoke to or worked with were very friendly and accommodating from day 1. There is no hidden fees for anything! This is what I was afraid of but, this venue is awesome! They are upfront about every detail and priced very well. I felt I got what I paid for with no regrets! They have excellent customer service and very understanding to any issue/situation I had. They were there when I had (what I felt) a dumb question and always reassured me. They all made me feel welcomed and made me feel so comfortable even though I was overwhelmed with nervousness, I felt their support when I needed them. I would strongly recommend this place everyone! My words can’t express how happy I was on my wedding day with how everything turned out.”
