How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“You generally only get one wedding, which means going into the day without knowing about a lot of the tiny details that go into making a wedding run smoothly. You do the research, you read the blogs, you study your friends' weddings and get tons of advice, but still you don't know what it's really like. The staff at Deity do--they do this every day. I could write about how great the space is, how much fun everyone had, and how reasonable the price was, and I'll get to all of that, but I want to emphasize what the pictures can't. Our wedding day ran smoothly and comfortably for us and our guests, and it's due to the staff at Deity. They anticipated our needs, gave us lots of helpful advice in both the planning stages and the day of, and went above and beyond to make sure we had the wedding we wanted. Anna, the coordinator, answered my endless emails and asked even more questions that hadn't occurred to me, and on the day of she handled everything so seamlessly I actually got to enjoy myself; Caio, the owner, gave our officiant (my brother) tips about when to move the mic for the smoothest possible ceremony, and made sure my train looked perfect right when I first stepped out into the aisle; and none of the staff batted an eye when I came down an hour before the guests were arriving to say I needed help hiding clues for a scavenger hunt that I had not told them I was planning. They made sure my husband and I got something to eat and a quiet moment to ourselves, they helped us load an Uber at almost midnight on a Sunday with all the stuff we'd brought. They made the whole day feel seamless and fun, and I cannot thank them enough. Also, so many of my guests made a point to tell me how good the food was. I'll admit, I was a little nervous about committing to the in-house catering without a tasting (we were lucky enough to get a sample from Chef James on our initial tour), but my fears were entirely unfounded. The passed appetizers were genuinely amazing, and the food served at the family-style dinner was tasty and actually hot, which I feel like is rare amongst weddings I've been to. They also were very helpful in accommodating our guests with dietary restrictions, including coordinating an order from a restaurant for a celiac guest, whom their kitchen wasn't equipped to serve. The bar was also great, helped us come up with custom cocktails, and there was cocktail service everywhere, including on the dance floor. When I factored in the food and drink to the total cost we paid for Deity, it's also a really good deal, compared to other local catering options! I won't say too much about the space because you can see it in the pictures and judge the vibe for yourself on a tour. But I will say that having different spaces for the different parts of the event was great, and having the suite for getting ready (and for retreating to when we needed a moment) was a godsend--not to mention wonderful for our photos! Sunset skyine photos without leaving the venue? Don't mind if I do! The location was great for both our in town guests, and those staying at nearby hotels. If you like the look of Deity, don't hesitate. I hope your wedding there turns out just as wonderful as ours!”

“A destination wedding without the airfare! Our family is spread out along the East Coast . When searching for a wedding venue we had to consider how far our guest were willing to travel. We found The Lake House Inn and our search, stopped there. What an amazing venue so close to New York and Philadelphia. Bonus point for being super affordable. The Oviatt team made it really straightforward and easy for us from the jump. From the moment we inquired, Gabe got back to us really fast. He informed us immediately when another couple was interested on the date we were looking at and gave us ample time to lock it in. Lindsey and Cami were our main point of contact after signing the contract, they provide you a welcome kit with all the info you'll need (such as vendor insurance and how to acquire it, parking, rental they can provide, layout guidelines etc.) and a checklist along with their due dates for everything they'll need from you. They even have a preferred vendor list in the welcome kit which is going to help you LOADS in wedding planning. Going with one of their preferred caterers is highly recommended. Oh and their bar? 1000/10 delicious drinks. We still think about the espresso martini. seriously. The value for money is incredible considering everything you'll get and zero hidden fees! We're absolutely in love with this venue. It made our special day even more magical because of its natural charm and the Oviatt team was so lovely to work with. Not only did we fall in love with this place more, our guests did as well 3 We miss everything about this art deco hottie of a place.”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! From the moment we first reached out, the team was incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel like our special day was just as important to them as it was to us. I had a tall order - I began planning my wedding just 2 and a half months before I had set the date, which was also my birthday, and over a holiday weekend. Hosting a party of 45, we were amazed by the level of attention and detail the staff provided. They were not only helpful in the planning stages but also went above and beyond on the day itself. The atmosphere was beautiful, creating the perfect backdrop for our celebration. We did the whole package for a daytime wedding, the ceremony and reception and lunch. I was so happy to be blessed with perfect weather as well as wild turkeys and hawks around the venue. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, and the staff’s professionalism and genuine care truly made our day unforgettable. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the stunning views and exquisite service. The food was impressive, and the cake was delicious (I hear - I didn't get a piece! Busy bride!) “Choosing the Red Barn for our wedding venue was the best decision we made!! The venue is absolutely gorgeous, the staff and on-site coordinators are absolutely incredible, and everything was so seamless from beginning to end, from the planning stages to the wedding day. Our venue coordinator Emily was a dream—she was so easy to work with and made the process a breeze: After we booked all our vendors ourselves and planned all our details, we met with Emily multiple times to talk about the day-of, and she was there on-site to make sure everything went smoothly (including setting up our decor, cuing the music and recessional/processional for our ceremony, keeping the timeline on track, and handling everything else that came up during the wedding day). Our day was absolutely perfect! She’s a superstar! For the venue itself, we can’t recommend it enough. The reception space is stunning, the foyer area for cocktail hour was perfect, and there’s a bridal suite for the bride/groom and bridal party. Staying at their sister property, the Stage House Inn gave us access to a shuttle service to and from the inn to the venue, which made the wedding day so easy (and the hotel is great!) We didn’t use the outdoor spaces as much because we got married in December, but we took some photos and the golf course and brick architecture were perfect backdrops. Overall, we really cannot recommend the Red Barn enough. From the absolutely amazing, friendly and welcoming staff (from the sales team to coordinators to catering and bar staff) to every single detail, we’re so happy with our wedding! If you’re considering booking the Red Barn, do it!”

Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.

“I chose ICC for my bridal shower venue because the venue is absolutely gorgeous! I loved the large venue spaces, beautiful landscapes through the windows, and overall airy feel! We ended up picking the Lyons room because it was spacious but not overwhelming. The natural lighting was gorgeous. Everything from the initial tour to the final product was gorgeous. All the staff members were incredibly kind and helpful throughout the process. Even when we came to set up the morning of, some wonderful team members were already helping to put favors on the table exactly where we wanted them (it’s like they read our minds!) The food was also absolutely delicious. We chose the chicken piccata and everyone was raving about it. Would 100% host another event here. Many of our guests were super impressed as well!
