Awarded Best of Zola
DJ Shyne is the difference between a good wedding and a once-in-a-lifetime, next-level, unforgettable experience. Hiring him was the single best decision we made for our wedding. He is outstanding—a true artist in his craft. It’s so clear that he’s not only dedicated to his profession but also deeply loves what he does. We gave DJ Shyne what we thought was an impossible challenge: blend pop hits, Spanish tunes, emo throwbacks, Disney jams, booty-shaking hip hop, and a long list of theme songs from our favorite TV shows and movies (everything from The White Lotus to Saw). On top of that, we added a handful of random, deeply personal songs you’d never expect at a wedding. What happened? Not only did he execute this perfectly, but he became the catalyst for a wedding that felt curated exactly to US—spinning a history of us both as individuals and our journey together woven into a seamless soundtrack. His mixing was unique, unexpected, and so much fun. As the bride, there was no place I wanted to be except on that dance floor. Our guests went wild. Compliments poured in all night and days after. We got so many texts like, “BROOO your DJ?! ” that we started to lose count. But it wasn’t just about the music. From the very first Zoom, DJ Shyne radiated charisma and professionalism. He carried that positive energy into every planning meeting and right through the reception—he even gave our speakers personal pep talks before their toasts! And when it came to group dances, he did something I’ve never seen: he stepped onto the dance floor, mic in hand, and taught the moves live. Towards the end of the Cha Cha Slide, he started teaching the crowd the moves to the Cupid Shuffle so by the time it started they were already doing it!!! No confusion, no awkward guessing, just pure joy and inclusion. He quickly became the vendor we looked forward to meeting with most. We ended each Zoom call feeling assured, uplifted, and excited about the possibilities. Out of everyone we worked with, he was the best. It does not get better than DJ Shyne. He isn’t just the DJ your wedding needs, he’s the DJ your wedding deserves.

My husband and I had some trepidation around choosing a photographer for our elopement, mainly because we really wanted any photos taken to reflect the two of us, and our relationship, authentically. We wanted intimate, personal, simple, and classic...and we found all of these things in Tessa. Tessa always put our vision at the forefront of her work, and she worked with us every step of the planning process to make our elopement seamless. She suggested venues, worked with our busy schedules to coordinate planning meetings, and even served as our officiant. Throughout it all, she was the perfect balance of honesty, warmth, and professionalism, and we would work with her again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Tessa, for everything. You are amazing!

Lorna Stell Photo

5.0

Salem, MA
  • Photographer
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $3,000

I’m a Virginia transplant who makes her home north of Boston shooting micro-weddings and elopements. I’m obsessed with the diversity and energy of the city, but also with how easy it is to escape to nature in New England. As an introvert, I definitely need both! I’m married to a handsome fellow creative (of the wordsmithing and storytelling variety) and we love our homebody life together. I’m a photographer because I think people are fascinating. Because memories are fleeting. Because we all need some beauty around us to help us remember how incredibly blessed we are to be alive.

Awarded Best of Zola
We sought out a few other photographers for our weddings day. But we totally clicked with Lorna and felt comfortable and trusted her with our wedding pictures. We were very confident in her work, and extremely happy with the outcome of our final pictures. Can’t stress how comfortable we were with Lorna and had no concerns in her ability to memorialize our wedding day. She chose some great locations and poses. Love the candid pictures at the event, brings us right back! Use Lorna if you want great pictures with a professional photographer. She blended into the background, but defiantly got the best images.

Caroline Giuliano Photography

Salem, MA
  • Photographer
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $7,500

I’m a photographer for people who don’t resonate with traditional wedding photography. For those who want their weddings to be told like a story that features every bear hug, belly laugh, stolen glance, spilled drink, booty shake, and happy tear. For those who prioritize genuine and unscripted moments over trends and shot lists. For those who don’t want to feel like they’re wasting their day posing for the camera. For those who are inspired by the past and hopeful for the future. For those looking to create a little bit of future nostalgia.

Prose Florals was sooo lucky to have worked weddings with Caroline. Not only is she the sweetest, her work is just incredible. She captured our florals for a wedding at the Rockfor Art Museum in September of 2022 and we still can't stop looking at them. From her photos we have gotten SOOO many compliments on the floral work we did for the wedding. Her talent is unmatched.

Salty Raven Studio

Salem, MA
  • Photographer
  • Photojournalistic style

My work is vibrant, moment-driven, and authentic. I love focusing on your connection as a couple, what makes you and your wedding unique, and your interactions with family and friends as you celebrate together. My approach to wedding photography leans toward a documentary or photojournalistic style with a fine art element (I graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in studio art). While I might suggest an area with great lighting to stand in, I will never ask you to “pretend” to do anything. Ever.

We met Danielle at an LGBTQ wedding expo while searching for photographer that had experience photographing two dress weddings, a niche market we quickly figured out, and immediately fell in love. Her photos capture the moment and never feel overly posed, which won over my camera shy wife immediately. We did our engagement shoot on the streets of Salem and Danielle managed to capture the love we have for each other and made simple store fronts look like a Christmas wonderland without making the shoot feel like work. By the time we got to our wedding day, we had absolutely no concerns about her ability to capture the day as a single shooter and she definitely didn’t disappoint! She created the most perfect first look so we could take a moment together before the ceremony began, melted into the background and got a million candid photos of our night, set up the PERFECT photo flash dance to get some silly photos of our friend groups, and corralled our blended families for gorgeous group shots.

As a wedding photographer myself, I tend to be extra critical when it comes to vendors - but Nicole truly stands out from the crowds. When Im not available for a wedding or portrait session - I send couples straight to Nicole, knowing they will be in good hands! Beyond her clear talents, the experience Nicole gives to her clients is top notch. I've had the pleasure of working with her on many events - and her bubbly personality, professionalism with a side of laid-back awesomeness, and contagious smiles are 10/10. She's an absolute rockstar - and the Boston wedding industry is lucky to have her!!!

We had a room block here for our wedding in Beverly, and hosted a brunch the day after (you have to have a catered event at the hotel in order to have a room block). Overall, our experience was pretty good. The hotel has been recently renovated and the rooms were beautiful. The King Suite was great to get ready in - I had 11 people getting hair and makeup done, with 4 artists, and there was enough space. Having the Regatta Pub on site was perfect for a welcome event and post-wedding spot and could easily accommodate a large influx of people. The brunch was ready to go with plenty of tasty food and drink. They also were able to hand out welcome bags when guests checked in. Kristen, who organized the room block, was extremely communicative and responsive to our emails, and helped us add rooms to our block a couple times. We are rating 4/5 stars for a couple reasons. First is that housekeeping never came to the suite to clean after we had left for the wedding, so we returned at the end of the night to all of the room-service coffee/breakfast items that had arrived at 8:30 that morning. When we called the front desk, no one answered. Secondly, while the brunch was great, they do charge a large room fee and administrative fee.

Photography by Things to do in Salem

Salem, MA
  • Photographer
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $5,000

Alyse Grimm is the creator behind Things to do in Salem [dot] com. In addition to working in tourism in Salem, MA she is also a wedding photographer with 200+ weddings of experience and her work has been published on major wedding platforms. Her knowledge of the north shore combined with her experience makes her a natural fit for your north shore wedding. Alyse's style is photojournalistic with an eye for small details. She is less fond of posed photos. Alyse is open to travel but is giving priority to weddings on the North Shore of MA and to weddings that are non traditional/showcase the individuality of the couple.

Alyse worked with my fiancé and I for our engagement shoot at Beacon Hill. Since we are from out of town (NY) and the shoot took place at the height of Covid, this required some strategic planning on both ends. Alyse was so kind and flexible to work with. She assured us that even if last minute changes due to Covid had to happen, she would work with us. I was very stressed with the entire situation, but Alyse’s calm, reassuring personality put my mind at ease. She has many great ideas, but also listens to your vision and is open to doing shots that you like. We loved the way she captured who we are as a couple, in a place that is special to us. We received many compliments on our save the date cards which featured the photos from our shoot. If you are looking for a photographer who is easygoing, open minded, and knows the MA area well, then Alyse is your girl!

We eloped at this incredible venue, and we can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was. As a queer couple, it's been a little uncertain with the changing climate around queer rights, I found out through Zola that Olio was doing free services for queer couples. This venue went above and beyond to make sure our day was nothing short of perfect. They were not only accommodating but genuinely supportive and flexible with every request we had. From helping us with the lighting and guiding us on where to get the chairs, to allowing us to take photos inside before the ceremony because of the freezing weather, their kindness and attention to detail made us feel truly special. They even took behind-the-scenes photos and shared them with us, capturing moments we’ll treasure forever. A special shoutout to Sarah, who was always amazing with communication. She answered all our questions so quickly and with such warmth, which made everything so much easier and stress-free. The team made our elopement feel like an intimate celebration, and we couldn't be more grateful for their help in making our day so beautiful. If you're looking for a venue that supports queer couples and provides top-notch service, this is absolutely the place!
