How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We couldn’t have been happier with our experience at Deity. The space is really eclectic in the best way. It balances elegance with a little Brooklyn quirk, especially in the cocktail hour room, which all of our guests loved. From start to finish, the planning process was simple and straightforward. You have one big meeting where everything gets laid out. After that, Anastasia, Caio, and the rest of the team were always quick to respond to emails when we needed to make adjustments. They were professional, organized, and made sure both we and our families felt taken care of throughout the day. Having almost everything in-house (e.g., everything less flowers, cake, photography) also made the whole process less stressful. Compared to other venues we looked at, Deity felt like a value and a way to make our guests feel like they were having an "authentic" NYC/Brooklyn wedding. The food and drinks were another highlight. The short rib was especially memorable, and the bar staff worked with us to create custom cocktails and pre-batch them so no one was stuck waiting in line. The DJ was flexible with our specific music tastes and vision for the evening and collaborated seamlessly when we brought in a drag queen for dinner, which turned into a huge hit with our guests. I’d also recommend booking the couple’s suite. It gave us a place to relax, get ready, and even host a pool party that added a really fun element to the day! Relaxing with our wedding guests earlier in the day was a really great way to connect with folks. Overall, Deity delivered on every level. “Our experience with Chicago Winery exceeded any expectations we had. We had never planned a wedding before, so we really leaned on CW and the wedding coordinator Chris to help guide us in our decision making. Chris was so prompt and thorough in every response leading up to the wedding, and so on top of everything the day of that we were able to truly just enjoy the day with zero stress. We chose CW because it is a turnkey venue- nearly everything is included- which means fewer vendors to track, fewer decisions to make, and overall just an easier planning experience. It is also a stunning venue without an ounce of decor brought in, which saved a lot of floral and other decor. They worked with us to create a day that reflected our vision, despite it being less traditional (cocktail style dinner, no assigned seats, dancing before and after dinner), and it worked seamlessly! The food and drinks were wonderful, but that was the least of our worries as we had heard great reviews from previous wedding guests at CW. Overall, we felt very taken care of and our primary goal of throwing a great party for our guests and a day that we will always remember (and truly were able to experience) for ourselves was accomplished. “I went to the open house last year and fell in love with the Venue at First sight. The grass, pecan trees, citrus trees, and then 40,000 lights sold the deal. We got married on 5/25/24, with almost all guests flying in. Every guest commented on how romantic the venue was. Stephanie and Ben were the best; they were both very professional and provided their expertise when needed. I can't forget how the ceremony went perfectly due to the support and always encouraging staff, especially Ben. Ensemble Catering is a part of the venue, and being that I have mostly foodie friends, everyone thought the food was delicious. The late-night Fries and Cookie Wall were discussed for the next few days when guests called to say how much they enjoyed the evening. Another consideration in my 5-star review is that the vendors in the package and on their website were just as great to work with. My husband and I are so grateful to everyone who worked that day and all the others who helped plan and make it the best day of our lives. Founded in 1814, The West Boylston Company was a large textile manufacturer in West Boylston, MA. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. Now, a century later, The Boylston Rooms retains the integrity of the 1814 original mill in every brick and beam. Our rental includes planners and decor at no added cost. Whatever your style, with over 140 pieces of decor, if you can picture it in the space, we can make it happen.

“I could not say enough good things about this venue. We're SO glad we decided to get married at The Boylston Rooms! The pictures show for themselves how beautiful the venue (and surrounding areas for photography) are, but the staff are what make this place extra special. From start to finish, everyone we worked with was nothing but professional. They were clear and timely communicators, helped troubleshoot things during the planning process, and came with loads of wedding wisdom that helped set us up for success on the big day. When the big day came, I also appreciated how often their staff checked in - even to make sure I was eating (it's the small things!) - and were ready to jump into support anywhere. A special shout out to Myles, who played a supporting role during our wedding portraits, helping me to keep my very long veil under control! A few other things I'll mention: - Their storage room filled with decor you can borrow is SO helpful. Less that you need to buy (and potentially waste post-wedding) and can even make decision-making easier when there are 1,000 versions of the same item online. - Their wedding suites are great to have available too. Obviously for getting ready, but it's also a nice reprieve if you need a quiet moment during the reception. - The Boylston Rooms only works with one caterer, Myer's Catering. Our guests are STILL raving about the food. (There's more flexibility with other vendors). - The Boylston Rooms also owns/is affiliated with The Wedding Day Trolley, which we used to transport our guests to/from the hotel. My partner and I also took some super fun photos inside of the trolley!”

She handled every detail with so much grace and care - even when little things came up, she took care of everything so we could stay fully present and enjoy the day together. “My mother and I had a joint celebration of our birthdays around late September last year. The venue was everything we could have dreamed of. Since it is situated in Roosevelt Island, it was the perfect venue to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and yet still get a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. The team was also very friendly and supportive to all of our requests and questions. They made sure that our event will go accordingly to what we have envisioned. To top it all off, the food was amazing!!! It is so rare for the celebrants to eat during the event itself but I personally couldn't contain myself. Every dish that was offered during our event was impeccable and there wasn't any miss. There is not one bad thing that I could honestly say about this venue and the team behind. I highly recommend this to everyone!”

“The Oviatt made planning and enjoying our wedding exceptionally easy, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to another couple. In fact, two of our friends who'd recently gotten married at The Oviatt were the ones to recommend us the venue in the first place. They did not steer us wrong. The initial touring and on-boarding process was seamless and attentive. We got clear answers to all of our questions and concerns, and the team had no trouble making adjustments as things evolved. The venue-related fees were all extremely reasonable for what you're getting, and we felt it was a tremendous value. If you are someone who's overwhelmed by the planning of it all or doesn't have it in you to evaluate the hundreds of vendors out there, The Oviatt can streamline things through their vetted preferred vendors list. We used this extensively and had a similarly excellent experience with everyone we hired, from catering to photographers to floral. We were also able to find vendors from this list that were able to realize our vision while meeting our budget, which was healthy and had some breathing room but was not exorbitant. We had a lot of extremely specific and arguably unusual requests that the venue team was happy to accommodate, even the week of. They were also there to troubleshoot when we encountered inevitable obstacles during the planning process. The venue itself is as stunning as the photos promise. They've recently been doing some historic refurbishment/restoration work, and the results speak for themselves. We wanted an art deco jewel box, and we got that and more. The penthouse elevator made for a grand entrance statement, and the furnishings gave the proceedings opulence to spare. While there was some concern with how we'd fit 90 guests into the interior spaces for cocktail hour while the terrace was turned over for the reception, we found it actually wasn't any trouble at all. The upper deck remained available and allowed for natural crowd control. The scene was lively and exciting, to be sure, but never uncomfortable. We really can't say enough kind things. The staff on the day were incredible, the attention to detail was immaculate, and everything went as perfectly as one can hope.”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. Not only was Nazareth beautiful, but the staff was absolutely wonderful! They worked with us to ensure that we had exactly what we wanted on our wedding day. There was never a time that I felt stressed during our wedding planning because our coordinator at Nazareth helped us through each step! She always ensured that we had specific things booked by certain times in our planning. The amazing staff didn’t end with our wedding planner/coordinator, the waitstaff and day of coordinator were also amazing! I never felt like I was forced to pay for things we didn’t need and the food was amazing! Nazareth Hall is 1000% the best wedding venue in the area! “The Pavilion on Crystal Lake and the Connecticut wedding group curated and developed the best day of our lives. Our wedding was a little over a month now and every time we see a friend it family member, we are overwhelmed with compliments and people telling us that our wedding was the best wedding they’ve ever been to. The trusted vendors they shared were excellent complements to the orchestration that CT wedding group provided. The food and drinks were spectacular ( literally the best wedding food I’ve ever had and we got to customize the menu). The venue was beautiful and it team plugged in anywhere they could to help the decor be cohesive and beautiful. The planning process was a, devoid of stress and fun the whole time! I cannot stress enough how important the staff was to our day especially Lexi and Dmitri- the nuance and meticulous detail they managed our wedding with showed a deep understanding of us as a couple and our vision- we truly felt like they were partners to us as we planned and they mostly managed the wedding planning experience (and we did this from out of state). We were able to incorporate some non traditional details with the help of this team to make our vision a reality such as a New Orleans style second line, playing guests wedding songs so they could dance during dinner and more! The day was absolutely perfect and when I tell you it was perfect, I mean it was everything we dreamed of and more. We were depressed for weeks after because of how much we missed it!
