How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“First off, the wedding coordinator MELISSA at The Milestone Denton is godsend and 10000% deserves a huge raise and fat bonus for the amount of work she does and is so helpful in the planning process. She was very honest and upfront during the entire planning process. I am very Type A and for once in my life it was nice to have someone else in charge and I fully trusted her. She even provides recommendations when you don’t know what you want and will be honest with pricing. If it weren’t for Melissa, I don’t know how the wedding would have gone and I would have been so stressed during the planning process. She is so awesome that she goes out of her way to do things for you (be nice everyone!) and is very responsive. She also helped with the reception layout with my divorced parents who do not get along with other family members and it was a success. MELISSA IS THE BEST!! The venue - BEAUTIFUL. We had our ceremony indoors which was nice because our guests were able to take pictures at the gabezo in the back during cocktail hour. If you do your ceremony outside at the gazebo, the guests won’t be able to have their little photoshoots. The entire venue is gorgeous and every corner is a photo-op. It’s a great venue if you have 150 or less people. The big windows everywhere were just so beautiful. The bridal suite is HUGE and beautiful and the grooms suite is upstairs and has a tv and pool table. Perfect for the boys! The food, bar and DJ - everything was great and explained throughly by Melissa so expectations were set and made based on what tier and package you purchased I did not use the Walter Weddings photographer, florists or cake designer so I can’t speak to that. One downfall was on the day of the wedding with Melissa’s day of partner, Allison. She is super sweet and helped steam my bridal gown and Matron of Honor’s dress, which I’m so appreciative of. But I guess she didn’t communicate well to the staff on what needed to be done that day because there were several mishaps that shouldn’t have happened. The ceremony room was incomplete and she didn’t give me the chance to see how the front tables looked. I purchased 100 of bouquet flowers and ribbons that were supposed to be tied to each seat which I was told could be done since it was a simple task to tie 3 flowers and a bow on each aisle chair. This was not done so that small detail from my ceremony room seem bland and a waste of money. The front tables weren’t done how I wanted and it was chaotic having presents with our guestbook and our wedding sign. We wanted to utilize the buffet type table in the front room for presents so it’s not so cluttered when you walk in. Also, a lot of my items were not used for cocktail hour. After the wedding, I noticed the box was opened but she did not use what I purchase and the display for cocktail hour looked like a “backyard bbq” according to my guests. I was so disappointed because I had custom items and “backyard bbq” did not fit the vibe of “old Hollywood glam” of the wedding. Other than the day of mishaps, I highly recommend doing your wedding at Milestone Mansion Denton and having Melissa as your coordinator. GIVE HER A HUGE RAISE, Walter Weddings!!! She’s top notch and deserves it!”

“My husband and I were looking for a high value, reasonably-priced venue in the Brookly area and we found it in DEITY. We were immediately impressed by DEITY wedding packages. We were able to find a package that best fit our vision and budget. It’s really hard to imagine that we could have gotten a better deal for our money anywhere else, especially when you consider that the tax is already baked in upfront without any hidden surprises. That costumer service alone sold me. I feel absolutly in love with the venue. The staff. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. Included in the package are wedding planners. “In 2021 my boyfriend and I attended a wedding at Olio and couldn't believe how perfect the space was. Being from the north shore, it was easy to get to which we loved. Once we got to the dinner portion of the wedding and had chicken parm (not your traditional wedding piece of chicken or steak) - we thought, this is the best wedding ever! When we got engaged in December 2023, the first, and only tour we had was at Olio. We assumed there would be no availability for 2024, but Sarah was able to secure us with the perfect date in June (just six months away). We knew we didn't want a traditional wedding, and loved the fact that Sarah supported our non-traditional, crazy ideas. When I took my grandmother to visit the space, she met Sarah and said "she's so nice and thoughtful, but you must have to be to work in this industry" I can confidently say after planning my wedding in 6 months that not all vendors are like Sarah and the team at Olio! They go ABOVE and BEYOND to help you create your perfect day. They are incredibly fast at responding, and always taking the time to reply with kindness which goes a long way. Sarah & team helped us craft the most perfect PARTY atmosphere for our 200 guests. We went with Premier as our caterer and loved being able to hire local Peabody establishments for food, shoutout to Champions Pub, Toscanas, and an INCREDIBLE grazing board by Edex Provisions (right outside of Olio!) Followed by epic late night snacks from McDonalds. Olio allowed us to create the wedding menu of our dreams :) I would absolutely recommend working with Sarah and the team at Olio. My friends and family are still raving about the space, the food, and how much fun the night was. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “We had the most beautiful wedding at The Boylston Rooms. From the moment we first spoke with Erin and Myles we know this would be the venue we would choose. They saw our vision and really went above and beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. We were thrilled to be able to utilize their massive library of decorations and supplies to avoid having to purchase a ton of decorative elements and we donated the things we did end up purchasing so that they didnt end up sitting in our house (or worse, a landfill!) Myles and Erin both made absolutely certain that we got to enjoy every moment, including our food, and that we got to spend a moment alone together right after the ceremony to celebrate. Alyssa was by my side all day as my biggest cheerleader. I'm an emotional person who doesn't love being the center of attention. She had the most reassuring presence and all kinds of tricks up her sleeve. I will never forget her helping me take deep breaths, holding a cold can of Diet Coke on my chest to help calm me down. The Boylston Rooms made our wedding day so special, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We probably could've had a beautiful wedding anywhere if we had been willing to dedicate our entire lives to it for the year prior or shell out thousands of dollars for a planner and coordinator. But at The Boylston Rooms we didnt have to do either. We had a gorgeous wedding and it was affordable but above all it was effortless. With their help? We would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Built in 1906 by John. F. Wheeler, owner of the Wheeler Lumber Yard on Main Street in Ball Ground, the house was constructed with Heart Pine tongue and grove floors, walls, ceilings, and wrap-around porches. The Wheeler House is a historic gem that has been given new life by serving as a wedding venue and special event site.

“The Wheeler House was everything I was looking for in a wedding venue. I wanted to have as little stress as possible during wedding planning and on the day of the wedding, and they delivered. Ashley was the coordinator and helped answer every question we had very quickly. She also helped everything so smoothly on the day of. She even had appetizers and drinks ready for us as soon as we were done with the ceremony. Their wedding package included a lot of the big things (catering, DJ, cake, etc..) and they had great recommendations for other vendors. We had a large bridal party and there was plenty of room for us to get ready. I’m not exaggerating when I say we’ve had almost half of our guests tell us it was one of the best weddings they’ve been to. Everyone was raving about the food and how beautiful everything was. I’m lucky to have had my wedding here and will always recommend them!”

“My husband and I are eternally grateful for the Red Barn and their staff. From the beginning, Nicole was extremely attentive and answered all of our questions when booking the venue. One of the main reasons we picked the Red Barn was because of its natural beauty inside and out. The wood finishes and landscaping are the perfect backdrop to any wedding, which allows you to decorate as much or as little as you want. We worked with Rachel in the last 3 months before the big day and could not have asked for a better day of coordinator. She made us feel so calm and heard throughout the process. She was open and excited about all of our ideas. Her and the staff made our decorations and personal touches look better than we could have imagined when we arrived on wedding day. The food, drinks and atmosphere were amazing, as well. The Red Barn made things feel so easy on the most important day of our lives. We will cherish these memories for years to come!”

“My husband and I got married here in June and loved everything about it! The venue itself is perfect for smaller-medium size weddings and very affordable compared to other places we looked it. Also, most of our guest were coming in from out of town, so it was important to us to have a fun area with lots of restaurants and accessibility without a car. This location couldn't have been better. Gabby was so helpful with answering any questions and assisting us through our wedding planning. She even helped navigate the rehearsal since our coordinator couldn't be there. Overall, we can't recommend Watson Block enough for its price, aesthetic, and service!”

“We were extremely happy with the venue and the support from early planning stages, through the entirety of the ceremony/reception. As the bride and groom, most of our interactions involved Abby and Aiden, but we heard positive things about everyone on staff. Before and during the ceremony, Abby was very organized and kept everything on schedule. Aiden did a phenomenal job coordinating our reception as banquet captain and was great at managing the small details that made the celebration special. Would recommend this venue to everyone!”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. “Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“Great place, great venue, great staff and great time!!! What more could someone ask for on their wedding day? Absolutely nothing…I would tell everyone to have their special events here. Each staff member I spoke to or worked with were very friendly and accommodating from day 1. There is no hidden fees for anything! This is what I was afraid of but, this venue is awesome! They are upfront about every detail and priced very well. I felt I got what I paid for with no regrets! They have excellent customer service and very understanding to any issue/situation I had. They were there when I had (what I felt) a dumb question and always reassured me. They all made me feel welcomed and made me feel so comfortable even though I was overwhelmed with nervousness, I felt their support when I needed them. I would strongly recommend this place everyone! From the very first interaction, Stephanie and Gianna were effective, friendly, and thoughtful in their communication, making the planning process a breeze. The value they provided was excellent - not only is the venue itself beautifully appointed, but so many conveniences were included for the price that it made our day run that much more smoothly. For example, Stephanie recommended we skip the traditional first dances and family speeches and instead just dance our guests right into the dining room to a small surprise set from our band! This really kicked off the party in a fun and lively way which set the tone for the entire night. Absolutely wonderful to work with, Stephanie and Gianna are true professionals, and all we had to do as the couple was show up and leave the rest to them. Our Farm sits on 54-Acres in Bucks County. Our Seed Barn was originally built back in the 1820's. Our Seed Barn was restored in the Summer of 2016 & seats 160-200 people. Attached to the back of the Seed Barn is a beautiful deck that overlooks the ceremony site. In the lower level of the Seed Barn is our Groom’s Suite! Here you will find a pool table, TV, lounge seating area & more. In 2020 we built our Harvest Barn attached to the Seed Barn through a breezeway. This is home for our commercial kitchen, on-site bathrooms, smaller event space and bridal suite. Lastly, we have a Farm-to-Table bakery onsite for your dessert table & custom wedding cake. “I cannot say enough wonderful things about this beautiful venue. From the time we set foot on property in 2022 to tour the venue, it instantly felt like home. Everyone who works here is so kind, and they always greet you with a smiling face. Communication is A with this team! I NEVER had any wedding stress related to the venue itself. They get back to you with any questions or concerns within a few days and that’s even pushing it, sometimes it was same day- this was not the case of friends of ours who got married at different venues. Becca, Alyssa, Courtney, and Sam were who we primarily dealt with and they were all fabulous, professional, and pleasant. Sam was our DIY coordinator/wedding day manager and just LOVED that we planned to have our Rottweiler in our wedding from the moment we met her at the dessert tasting and I think that really resonated with me- fellow dog moms unite! When she met him she greeted him with open arms and it was like they were long lost buddies. Sam was at The Farm when my hair and makeup artists arrived and she helped carry their things up the stairs to the suite- they were both blown away and said a venue had NEVER offered to help them like that before. They even declined the help out of courtesy and she said “ No I WANT to help you” and rushed up the stairs with them and their belongings. They felt so welcomed. I am the most meticulous person I know when it comes to decor so I bought all of my own, and met with Sam about specifics. She instantly knew what to do with all of it and it was so perfect. Courtney was our day of coordinator, and recorded our first dance for us on her phone and uploaded it to a google drive for us- as it was the only video we have of it so far while waiting for our videographer to send us it! She must have ran miles on that day to make sure the day went smoothly and it didn’t go unnoticed. She kept running drinks and apps to us during cocktail hour. We appreciated her so much. Our guests raved over the food, we used Julie with 2 Little Piggy’s. Communication with Julie was also outstanding. The drinks were always flowing and guests still cannot get over it. The dessert table provided by The Farm was to die for. We had shooters, apple dumplings, and mini cupcakes in our wedding cake flavor. I had to go back to The Farm the week after our wedding to pick up something we left behind and teared up pulling into the parking lot because I couldn’t believe the day was over and we had to say goodbye to The Farm staff. They truly become like family and there is no venue around that will give you this homey feeling. We will be back for the Christmas market! (The market is straight out of a hallmark movie- must go!).
