How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“When I was looking for a woodsy venue to get married at on the east coast, I stumbled upon Woodsgate at Stroudsmoor and it immediately stood out to me! We could get married surrounded by trees, with the ease of an all inclusive reception a short walk away. When we visited and saw the woodland chapel, even in the middle of winter, my breath was taken away and I wanted to cry because of how perfect and beautiful it is. It’s very secluded and has a lit-up walk to the ceremony site up an adorable path, and the reception hall has a cozy homey feel, while being straight out of a fantasy novel. We didn’t need much floral decor because of how beautiful everything is already, but the floral we did get was the perfect finishing touch, and I’m still obsessing over my bouquet. Aside from the gorgeous fairytale setting, the service was phenomenal and both our planner, Malia, and the staff were there to see to all our needs and make the day as stress-free and easygoing as possible. Malia was always quick to answer any questions, and was very willing to bring our unconventional ideas like Rock Band karaoke at the reception to life. Sometimes with all-inclusive venues you’re limited with customizing the wedding but that was not at all the case with Stroudsmoor. Everyone was so kind, professional, and our guests raved about the incredible food and service. I couldn’t imagine getting married at a more perfect place, and highly recommend this to anyone looking to have their own whimsical woodland wedding!!”

“We couldn’t have been happier with our experience at Deity. The space is really eclectic in the best way. It balances elegance with a little Brooklyn quirk, especially in the cocktail hour room, which all of our guests loved. From start to finish, the planning process was simple and straightforward. You have one big meeting where everything gets laid out. After that, Anastasia, Caio, and the rest of the team were always quick to respond to emails when we needed to make adjustments. They were professional, organized, and made sure both we and our families felt taken care of throughout the day. Having almost everything in-house (e.g., everything less flowers, cake, photography) also made the whole process less stressful. Compared to other venues we looked at, Deity felt like a value and a way to make our guests feel like they were having an "authentic" NYC/Brooklyn wedding. The food and drinks were another highlight. The short rib was especially memorable, and the bar staff worked with us to create custom cocktails and pre-batch them so no one was stuck waiting in line. The DJ was flexible with our specific music tastes and vision for the evening and collaborated seamlessly when we brought in a drag queen for dinner, which turned into a huge hit with our guests. I’d also recommend booking the couple’s suite. It gave us a place to relax, get ready, and even host a pool party that added a really fun element to the day! Relaxing with our wedding guests earlier in the day was a really great way to connect with folks. Overall, Deity delivered on every level. We’re grateful to Anastasia, Caio, and the whole team for making our wedding day everything we hoped it would be.”

The planning process was incredibly simple. With all the moving parts weddings encompass, the staff were very flexible and accommodating to what we wanted to make our day as special as it was. The setting for the ceremony and reception felt like we were in another world. Again, the planning for how we wanted our items set up were seamless with the staff's help. They made sure all the details we wanted were accommodated for. Lastly, but certainly very important and helpful was the cleanup for the end of the night. Staff were on point with making sure we had all our belongings and items needed prior to departing the venue. We had no worries with making sure everything was cleaned up and accounted for. Overall, our day was perfect and so happy we chose Venue at the Grove. “If you’re considering the Walden as your venue, let this be your sign to book with them. The space is huge, the ambiance is warm and industrial, the food is insanely good, unlike any other “traditional” wedding venue, and the best part, the planning team. We had the pleasure of working with Sydni and Alyssa who essentially planned our wedding from scratch within a 6 month span. They are extremely organized and professional, while also being relatable and honest. Our guest count was 254, which is not a very forgiving number of people to coordinate, especially when the couple (us) seem to be allergic to making decisions in a timely matter. Sydni and Alyssa navigated any obstacles that arose with grace and ultimately organized a wedding that was beyond what we could’ve expected. “While dating my now wife, I used to drive past Olio every time I came to Peabody and knew from the start that it would be the home of our future wedding. The time came and we immediately scheduled our tour and fell in love. We knew we needed a special venue since our flower girl is in a wheelchair and Olio shocked us by being not only fully accessible but also so willing to accommodate our needs. Founded in 1814, The West Boylston Company was a large textile manufacturer in West Boylston, MA. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “The Oviatt is a wonderful venue and it was such a pleasure working with Lindsey and Gabe! We knew during our tour that the Oviatt was the right venue for us. The size (for small-medium sized weddings), location, and character of the venue is really unparalleled. Then layer on top table and linen deal when you work with a preferred catering vendor and the Oviatt is the best deal in town! Gabe was very helpful during the touring and contracting phase. He communicates very clearly which made the process very smooth. There were no surprise charges at any point. The cost of everything was communicated very clearly upfront. Then, once we signed the contract, we worked with Lindsey, the director of events who supports the planning phase. Lindsey answered all of our questions in a timely and patient manner. She never hesitated to answer our questions, even when the answers to our questions were clearly outlined in the welcome packet! The event planning tools the team uses makes it incredibly easy to stay up on all of the planning details from floorplan to linen selections, to guest count - the tool handles it all with clear deadlines for each task. Finally, on the day of our wedding the Oviatt team executed the event so smoothly. Everything went off without a hitch! Our guests were so impressed by the venue. Quintessential LA rooftop vibe with art deco architecture. Such a treat. We would recommend the Oviatt to anybody looking to get married in the downtown area. The Oviatt is reasonably priced, the staff are incredibly professional and reliable, and are just nice people. We are forever grateful to the Oviatt staff for helping us have our perfect wedding!”

“We had a fabulous wedding reception at the Donauschwaben German Cultural Center (Lenau Park). Their entire staff—from their awesome coordinator Christine to their banquet captain and bar staff—was so kind, so professional, and most importantly made our guests feel welcome and taken care of. Christine came to every meeting organized and prepared. She understands the details as well as the emotions that go into planning a wedding and was a great part of our support system. She is fair and reasonable—even helped us make a German Hall a little more “Italian” for the bride. We could not have asked for a better partner! As for the venue itself, it was the perfect place to host 300 of our closest friends and family. The space was beautiful, bright and happy. Our guests were comfortably seated at 32 round tables of 8 to 10. The team made all of our décor visions come to life. The outdoor patio was welcoming and comfortable for guests as well. The dance floor is huge! Perfect for an Italian tarantella. I would also say the room is set up well acoustically—with 300 people in the room and music playing, you could still hear the other people at your table. The entryway was also perfect for our receiving line. We were happy to see that guests could enjoy their time—whether they wanted to dance the night away, sit and chat, or just enjoy the night air with family. The food was excellent—seriously excellent. We got so many compliments after the wedding! They have their buffet line down to a science with all of our guests being served in a reasonable amount of time. They also did a great job of meeting the needs of our gluten- and dairy-free guests. That is so hard to do when you are feeding so many people, and even these guests said they enjoyed their meals. Finally, the money we spent on this wedding reception was well worth the value. The food and beverage packages are incredibly fair for the quality and the amount of food your guests will be served. We were also able to add appetizers and some special add-ons at a reasonable rate. The linens are provided by a separate vendor, but even those costs were not too bad, and everything looked beautiful when it was decorated! While there are certain rules the venue must follow and sometimes we needed to negotiate the details, Christine was highly transparent and upfront with us, and always worked with us to find the right solution for our day. After hosting our wedding here, we would absolutely do it again with this space and this team. When it comes to the Donauschwaben, we strongly recommend them for your wedding reception and cannot say enough good things about their level of service!”

“We are so grateful to Bay Pointe (especially Ashley, Juno, and Lauren) for helping us host a spectacular event. We had our event at the Bay Pointe Pavilion and it was so lovely. We had a gorgeous evening and the weather was perfect. The grounds were beautiful with early June flowers blooming. Bay Pointe also had added more ceremony space flowers which really made it look even better. The food was great and everyone loved our drink menu. Overall, Bay Pointe made everything so easy that day because of how comprehensive the services they offer are. Everyone commented to us that we had the most peaceful, stress-free wedding they had been to in a long time. Even for myself as the bride/wedding planner, I felt like everything was handled and I could actually relax and enjoy the day.”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.
