“I chose Pin Me up Chicago basically because when I started reaching out to individual artists, I realized the price of them was getting way outside my budget. I didn't realize how expensive Hair & make Up would cost in the city of Chicago. I found PinMeUp from a friend referral and she had all positive things to say. I appreciated the lower cost and ability to pick specific services. They were very accommodating when I had to change my trials last minute due to a family emergency which I very much appreciated, and Jennifer, the primary contact, would respond in an efficient amount of time and would update the contract as I added and removed certain services which was nice to not be fully locked in as things changed. I ultimately chose them because of that more affordable cost. However, with a cheaper cost does create drawbacks. You don't get a say in who does your hair and makeup, and you can't see their work in advance, and they don't allow you to speak to them directly post the trial. At my trial, my make up artist, Mimi, was certainly skilled and you can tell as been doing this awhile. I do appreciate that she took my feedback and would adjust. Between the trial and the wedding, she really did take that feedback and knocked it out of the park at the wedding. My make up lasted all day, and she was even able to cover a vitiligo spot on my chest so it is barely noticeable. If given a choice, I would say you should ask for Mimi! She did a great job with my bridesmaids as well and could add glam when needed and also very light make up when requested. For my hair, I actually only had small feedback post trial, but she really struggled day of the wedding. I'm not sure what happened but it took an hour longer than it should have, my extension didn't stay hooked in so I had to fix them, and all the curl completely fell out in one hour and I had to recurl it prior to the ceremony. I don't love my hair from the wedding and I'm hoping over the years it won't bother me so much. She did however so great with my bridesmaids so I am not sure what happened with my bridal hair. Ultimately, you get a little of what you pay for, so if I could go back in time, I might have gone with a hair stylist that I knew could do the style that I wanted and just accepted the cost. Overall, it is a good budget friendly option for hair and make up.”

“One of the FIRST pieces of advice I had when I got engaged was to hire Shannon O'Brien. And easily, that was one of the BEST pieces of advice I had. I booked her before I had any other information about my wedding at my fingertips. I was too afraid that if I didn't get her locked down right away, that I'd always have wished I did that first and foremost. Shannon is truly delightful. She comes ready to work with a smile and a suitcase full of cosmetics more organized than some makeup stores. She is a true artist and works everyone's face like a canvas- she can make anyone look like a complete goddess. I hired her to do my makeup, as well as my bridal party, mother, and mother-in-law and EVERYONE left saying that they haven't looked that good EVER. I know you're supposed to wash your face every night before bed ESPECIALLY when you have makeup on, but I have to say that I was very hesitant to listen to that rule- both times she did my makeup (after the trial and after the wedding). I've truly never felt or looked better and it was all in part to her makeup magic. She is a makeup wizard and her wand is a brush. Another great thing is, she allows you to give input. She lets you tell her how you feel best, what you think looks best on you, to bring in pictures of inspiration looks- and then she also gives you suggestions. She told me to expect that things may shift a little on the wedding day, as things like a tan, etc can change some of the makeup that may not have been done exactly at the trial. The look she did for my wedding wasn't a far cry from the trial, but I loved it even more! After seeing my hair and the whole look for the day, she felt inspired to do something a little different and there's nobody I'd blindly trust more with their makeup work than Shannon. In fact, if she never said a thing about what she planned to do and just went to town on my face, I'd have been thrilled. She's just THAT good. Aside from her amazing talent and artistry is her attitude. A HUGE thing for me was having a positive feeling in the room as I was preparing for the day. Someone that would add radiance and she did just that. Her disposition is sunny and she made everyone feel like the most beautiful person (inside and out). She brings an air of fun to the room, which, of course, is always welcome. Trust me on this, you'll be looking for any excuse after your wedding to have her do your makeup again.
