This site was first developed by Philip Foster in 1847, as a resting place on the Oregon Trail. It still has four original Foster buildings (two moved onto the site), including a large hay barn, granary, and two houses. One house has been restored to its 1860 condition. We welcome all kinds of weddings, but are most appreciated by those who love Oregon History, and those who want to bring horses to the wedding. There are many options for how to use our site, and we are happy to help you create your dream event. Although parking is limited to about 50 cars, there is plenty of space for people.

Elevate your event at the restored classic The Melody Event Center located in Central Eastside Portland. Built in 1925 and renovated in 2018 The Melody Event Center offers five distinct event spaces, accommodating up to 1,000 guests and offers flexible floor plans for every occasion. The elegant Melody Ballroom is nearly 6,000 square feet, welcoming up to 400 seated guest or up to 800 standing. The Melody Ballroom stands as our crown jewel with 30 foot high ceiling trimmed in gold, crystal chandeliers and a beautiful hardwood floor. We offer four additional spaces; The Morrison, Hawthorne, Portlandia and Broadway perfect for smaller events and meetings. Each room features this historic buildings original large scale windows displaying beautiful natural light. The Melody Event Center is a full service venue offering; onsite catering, offsite catering upon request, bar services, parking, A/V services, custom lighting, room setup, decoration packages and event planning.

The Sanctuary Hall is a stunning, historical landmark in the heart of Portland's Arts District. The Hall's rounded and layered design allows for every wedding to feel like an intimate affair, be it seven people or 700. Beneath the Sanctuary Hall are many more multi-use rooms, including a banquet hall, commercial kitchen, chapel library, multiple dressing rooms. The venue is equipped with modern sound, lighting, and video capturing and streaming equipment. We have a fully functional pipe organ, one of the largest in Oregon, and a 7' Steinway Grand piano at your disposal. As an all-inclusive venue, we include staffing, setup, use of rentals (tables, chairs, linens, etc), clean-up, and an event specialist team to assist you with every package!

University Place Hotel and Conference Center has event facilities for groups as small as 5 and as large as 280. Our 8,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space includes 10 meeting rooms and a recently renovated 3,792-square-foot ballroom. After twelve wonderful and unforgettable years, the time has come for a new chapter. Gray Gables Estate will officially close its doors on December 31, 2026. While our venue will be closing, our passion for creating memorable events will continue. Gray Gables Events will remain in operation, offering event coordination, select off-site catering, and, potentially, a new venue location in the future. This transition also allows us the opportunity to spend more time with our family while continuing to do what we love. As we reflect on the past twelve years, our hearts are full of gratitude.
