About Kate Ames Photography

When I married my husband, it gave me a lot of insight as a photographer and helped me understand what moments and experiences were truly important to couples. For you, I strive to be a calm presence in the noise, capturing the beautiful, emotional connections between you, your partner & your guests. All the small moments you won’t remember in the rush of the day. I am NOT there to force your day into a box. I want your day to unfold organically and I want to mostly be a fly on the wall as it happens.

By nature, I'm a memory hoarder. I've never thrown out a card from my grandmother or my husband. I have boxes of ticket stubs and overflowing photo albums from growing up. I also have always been obsessed with light. How it paints on walls and how it affects moods. And I love design. In another life, I think I would have been an interior designer. Architecture and leading lines & color combinations make my brain buzz. I believe all these things led me to shooting weddings and contribute to the way I capture your day.

Typically, couples book me about 9-18 months before their wedding date. Summer Saturdays book up the quickest and furthest out. I hate having to tell couples I really connect with that I'm already booked, so it's never too early to reach out and start the conversation though!
On average you can expect around 100 images per hour of photographing. This varies depending on if there is a second shooter and the events of your wedding day. I don't limit the number of photos you receive to a specific number though, and I'll never hold back good photos from you. If I would want it for my wedding, you'll get it!
All final delivered images are individually edited to match the style you see in my portfolio. I take a lot of pride in editing true to color and in a timeless style so you'll love your photos for years and years to come. I also don't distribute RAW images for this reason. They aren't a final product.
I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
I often work with a second shooter, which can be included in your package or added on a la carte. I recommend a second shooter when you are having a large wedding to cover more ground and get more variety in angles. There are also times when a second shooter benefits a smaller wedding depending on the schedule of the day. I'm happy to help you figure out if your wedding would benefit from one!
I shoot in a mix of photojournalistic, fine art, and editorial. To me, this means most of the day I concentrate on capturing candid moments between you and your guests. I will step up to help pose and organize group photos. And then offer a lot of direction during couples portraits to create images that are both fun, romantic, and creative.
