About Andrew Weir Bagpiper

Andrew Weir Bagpiper

Piping for all the right reasons and seasons

With nearly 30 years of experience, I bring the tradition and power of the Great Highland bagpipes to weddings and special events across the Greater Philadelphia area. I’ve performed and competed internationally with pipe bands and take pride in delivering a professional, moving musical experience. Born and raised in a Scottish household, I’ve been immersed in bagpiping music for my whole life and bring heartfelt tradition, discipline, passion, and deep respect for the craft to every performance.

A U.S. Navy submarine veteran, I’ve recently returned home and am happy to be able to focus more time on doing what I love and helping couples mark life’s most meaningful moments with music that resonates.

    So special

Andrew provided high quality, emotional and musical entertainment for our wedding ceremony. His communication throughout the planning process was clear, easy, professional and timely. Andrew completely elevated the gravity of the occasion with his expert playing - I honestly didn't know bagpipes could sound that good. He has obviously invested a lot to become an expert in his craft, and his performance was a highlight of our special day.

So glad we had Andrew play at our wedding!!!

Andrew did an amazing job playing bagpipes at our wedding! He chose perfect songs -- upbeat and joyous -- and nailed each one. It's clear that he's been perfecting his craft for decades. Ahead of time, he was very communicative, making sure we had everything figured out so that we'd be all set for our big day. He was also super professional and easy to work with. We would recommend Andrew to anyone looking for a bagpiper!

One of our favorite parts of the day!

Andrew is a talented piper with almost 30 years of experience. He came highly recommended by friends. He added so much to our wedding ceremony. I would definitely recommend him to any couple looking for an unforgettable, professional and talented bagpiper for their wedding. He was easy to communicate with, friendly, well spoken, and very helpful when it came to planning the ceremony music. Our guests continue to tell us how much they loved this part of our wedding and hearing him play.

I perform in traditional Highland dress. My kilt is my family tartan, Weir (Ancient). I tailor the overall level of formality to match your event, ranging from a shirt and vest, to a tweed jacket, up through full black tie formal attire. A lot of my uniform carries personal and family history. My sgian dubh, the traditional knife worn in the right sock, was gifted to my grandfather from his mother on his wedding day and features a cairngorm, a Scottish gemstone, set in the hilt. My pony hair sporran and matching belt were graduation gifts from my parents, and I have picked up many nice items on my trips to Scotland.
Yes. I am a fast learner and am always open to learning new tunes for your event, especially if there is significance to you for any sentimental reasons. The only limitation is the instrument itself, as the Great Highland bagpipe is tuned in a Mixolydian mode, which means not all modern songs translate cleanly. However, if a tune works within the range and scale, I am happy to adapt it for performance.
Yes. I am happy to take music requests and to learn new tunes when appropriate. With nearly 30 years of playing experience, I have a deep repertoire and the ability to read the room and play what best fits the moment. I am equally comfortable following a specific program or performing autonomously and guiding the musical flow of the event as needed.
Yes. I can provide music for wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions, and a wide range of other occasions. I am comfortable playing in nearly any setting and adapting my music, placement, and performance style to suit the flow and tone of your event.
The bagpipes are a sensitive instrument and can be affected by temperature and humidity. I always arrive with ample time before my scheduled performance to ensure the pipes are properly tuned and in good working order well before they are needed as well as making sure to check in with my point of contact.
