“Andy was amazing during the entire process to ensure the big day would be memorable. We always wanted to elope and are very active hikers. After seeing his photos, we knew we wanted work with him. We are from the NYC area and he took the time go over what locations would be ideal and suggested great vendors to work with. In the lead up to the wedding, he made a timeline of how the day would go. On the day of the wedding, he made my wife and I feel so comfortable and relaxed during the entire day and helped make this experience truly memorable. The pictures were spectacular. He captured the entire day (getting ready, first look, hike up the mountain, and ceremony) and truly made the day unforgettable. Overall Andy was caring, professional, talented, and truly a pleasure to work with.”

Hey there! John & Amy here, the husband and wife team behind the cameras. We’re both adventurers, daydreamers, and you guessed it wildly in love. Fun fact, we’re actually highschool sweethearts and have been together for 10+ years. We are currently based in NC and are transitioning to WA in 2022. We love to travel and are down to adventure throughout the US & Beyond. We both have a heart for exploration and love working with couples who share this adventurous spirit. Genuine smiles, hearty laughs, spontaneous adventures, that’s what we’re all about.

Awarded Best of Zola
“We are over the moon with our photos and videos from Amy and John. The quality is incredible, and the quantity is unbelievable. They delivered an incredible amount of photos so quickly, and our friends and family have commented several times that it looks like our wedding was featured in a magazine spread because the quality is so impressive. We’ve been looking through them nonstop, and every time we see some new gem. They captured so many big and small moments throughout the weekend. It is incredible that they were able to capture so much without us or our guests feeling like there were cameras everywhere. They blended seamlessly, and it truly felt like we were just hanging out with them all day. They were so kind and lovely to work with and directed us beautifully, while allowing us to be ourselves and capturing genuine and authentic moments. They both brought such a calm presence. We can’t believe they captured so much content and so many angles when we don’t even remember them doing that - we mostly remember them being by our sides and talking and laughing with us. So many of our guests have said similar things. They truly impressed everyone and have given us so many incredible photos and videos to remember the weekend. Hiring them was such a great decision. We would 100% do it again and recommend them wholeheartedly.”

Documentary wedding photographer based in Asheville, NC. I photograph couples who want to stay present and end up with photos that feel like the day actually was. No shot lists. No posing pressure. Real moments, honest color. Fearless Awards, WPJA Top 150, ISPWP. Published in Destination I Do. Sneak peeks in 3 to 4 days. Full gallery in one month. Photography from $3,800. Photo + Video from $7,800.

Awarded Best of Zola
“To any couple considering Michael: book him, trust him, and let him do what he does best. He captured our day with so much beauty, intention, and care. We left our wedding experience not saying goodbye to Michael, but “see you later,” because we genuinely hope to use him for all of our family photo sessions in the future. We found Michael Freas by Googling Pretty Place Chapel photographers, and we were immediately blown away by his talent, his style, and the breathtaking photos he had captured for other couples. From the very first inquiry, Michael was incredible. He responded the same day, shared full galleries from other Pretty Place Chapel couples, and spent the entire day communicating with me to help us choose a date that worked well for both him and us. We basically let Michael pick our wedding date, and little did we know that would be the first of many decisions we would happily trust him with. Looking back, giving Michael full creative control was one of the best choices we made. The day of our wedding was truly the best day of our lives, and so much of that is because of Michael. From well before dawn to well after dusk, he took on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with us and turned it into something we will never forget. He was on time, prepared, thoughtful, calm, and somehow delivered in ways that completely surpassed every expectation we had. Just a wedding photographer? No way. Michael planned, guided, encouraged, organized, and executed our entire day in the most seamless and meaningful way. Even though we eloped, Michael made us feel like we had everyone we needed right there with us. He brought such a steady, joyful presence, and by the end of the experience, he felt much more like a friend than just our photographer. And the photos… WOW. They are breathtaking, awe-capturing, emotional, and beyond anything we could have dreamed of. Michael stunned us with a huge sneak peek and then delivered our full gallery in under one month. Everyone who has seen the photos has had the same reaction: stunning, beautiful, amazing, breathtaking. People keep telling us how happy and beautiful we look, and how incredible the landscapes are. We feel so blessed to have had Michael as our photographer and so much more.”

The Lovelight Archive
Rating: 5.0 (7 reviews)
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $1,400
  • Serves Swannanoa, NC

My name is Ashton. I’m drawn to the things that can’t be recreated: a glance across a crowded room, a hand held a little tighter, the feeling of knowing your life is about to change. My work is rooted in documenting those moments as they unfold, without performance or pretense. I believe the most meaningful photographs are the ones that feel honest. The ones that transport you back not just to how it looked, but to how it felt. Through a blend of documentary storytelling and refined imagery, I create photographs that become part of your history. Artifacts of love, connection, and the people who made it all matter.

Awarded Best of Zola
“As a photographer myself, it's not usually easy for me to be in front of the camera but Ashton showed up with a friendly demeanor and talked me through the process which made me so comfortable having my photo taken. This shows in the photos I received from her - fully-edited and beautiful!! I feel like I made a friend right away meeting Ashton and would recommender for anyone looking for photos!”

I believe your photos should have a timeless feel, full of your real emotions. I’m here to guide you every step of the way for a stress free experience. All the way from timeline planning to guiding you behind the camera, I’m here for you. 🌿

Awarded Best of Zola
“What initially drew us to reaching out to Laren to be our photographer for an intimate, 14 person wedding ceremony was obviously her stunning, timeless and romantic photographs. But what somehow stood out even more than the beautiful photographs she delivered to us (and with a relatively short turnaround!) was what an absolute pleasure it was to work with her, from communicating to figure out if it was a good fit initially, to planning a wedding day adventure session, to ensuring everyone at the ceremony got the photos they wanted. Throughout the initial coordination and planning process, she was very helpful with providing feedback on our ideas and crafting it into a clear plan for the day. She was flexible in allowing us to split coverage between an early morning adventure session in the mountains and time later at the venue for the formal wedding ceremony. She provided recommendations for other vendors and drafted timelines to help us organize the activities for the day. Leading up to the day, she provided us with regular updates about the weather, proactively providing alternate options if it did not cooperate. For the adventure session, it ended up being a frigid and windy morning, which could have been a miserable experience but because of her warmth, energy and positivity ended up being really fun despite us being freezing! She was always offering alternate ideas to make sure we had opportunities to warm up and even spent a good amount of time at the beginning helping us learn how to tie a bowtie. Since it was so cold and windy in the morning that we cut our hike short, she offered to come earlier in the evening (which was so kind) and shows her commitment to having the whole day really be about her clients, even if the coverage is split into two sessions! Working with her for the ceremony felt so natural and it really showed in the heartfelt, genuine and joyful photos that she took. We highly recommend Laren -- her skills would shine for capturing any event!”

“Jessica was fantastic!! We had small outdoor wedding on a Tuesday in February with 24 guests and Jessica captured it perfectly. Prior to the wedding Jessica made sure every detail was covered and a timeline was created for a seamless day. Day of Jessica arrived on time and was ready to shoot! She was flexible, staying an extra hour to capture more of our cocktail hour and braved the cold as we had requested going to Dry Falls waterfall after the ceremony to get some shots. Our two large dogs were a part of the ceremony and Jessica was wonderful working with them prior and during the ceremony to get special shots with them! We absolutely love how all of our pictures turned out. Jessica captured our love perfectly and our day will forever be documented beautifully from her photos. Highly recommend Jessica!”

Juan and Emily
Rating: 5.0 (5 reviews)
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $3,500
  • Serves Swannanoa, NC

Soon after Juan and Emily got married in 2018 Juan began his photography career as a light technician in LA. Juan studied journalism for his undergrad, and this is when he was gifted his first camera and his interest in photography was sparked. Emily's childhood dream was to be a photographer, and after working for years as an ICU nurse she is able to do just that alongside Juan. We are energized by the creativity that photography brings, and the light and joy we experience from meeting couples.

Awarded Best of Zola
“I cannot say enough good things about Juan Rodriguez Photography! Juan shot film photos alongside a digital photographer at our wedding. Juan's photos are absolutely beautiful - organic, artistic and distinct. They are some of my favorite photos from the day. The best thing about Juan though is his attitude. His positivity, calmness and proactiveness made a real difference without how I felt on my wedding day. Though our digital photographer had never met him before our wedding, she commented how much she enjoyed working with him. Many of our bridal party made similar comments. He was always looking for ways to help, whether holding bouquets or giving my veil movement outside the frame. Besides being a wonderful photographer, Juan is just the type of person you want with you on your wedding day. I can't recommend him enough.”

Hi! We're Julie and Rad. We met in Vietnam in 2016, and have lived in eight countries together since then. During our time abroad we've had plenty of adventures, seen incredible wildlife, eaten a lot of wonderful food, and honed our photography skills. We also got married in 2020! Planning a wedding during a pandemic involved an unusual set of challenges. Although our guest count was a little smaller than we originally anticipated-- the day could not have been more perfect. This was made possible only because we hired and trusted the right people. We try to instill the same trust so you can enjoy your day!

“Simply Amazing! We had our engagement shoot at the Biltmore estate and it was nothing short of magical. Julie was able to capture exactly what I wanted the pictures to look like. She is a joy to work with and helped us feel relaxed and at ease. I can’t stop looking at my pictures and everyone that lays eyes on them is OBSESSED! They take your pictures and capture who you are but also make it look like a beautiful piece of art. I simply cannot say enough good things!”

Lacey is a world-travelled photographer originally from the midwest. This is a woman and Vet owned business. Portraits have a lean toward that as well, with a push toward the bonds between people. By working to get clients to interact, the images made reflect the connection between individuals as well as the self.

Hey, I’m Kirsten! I’m so excited that you’re here! I’m a plant loving, adventure seeking, coffee loving, dog mom - but my favorite title is photographer. l’ll make beautiful documentary style photos so that you can relive the feelings and memories of your day forever. When you hire me, you’re hiring a photographer who has a bachelors degree in fine art photography, ten years of photography experience as well as thousands of miles of hiking experience.

“We had quite the journey with Kirsten, through Helene and a venue change, but we’re so grateful we were able to keep her on as a vendor through out all the craziness! Kirsten took our engagement photos just days before Helene hit. Due to all the rain before Helene, we had to shift locations for safety, but she pivoted us to another lovely location, and waited out some rain with us mid-session to make them happen! Then, we lost our venue in the storm. We experienced a variety of responses from vendors when changes occurred as a result of Helene, and I can say that Kirsten was absolutely the most gracious, when she didn’t have to be. She got our engagement photos to us as soon as she could, even though she had to leave the state due to the storm. Flash forward to our wedding, and as of course our luck would have it, it rained again. But Kirsten handled it like a champ, and helped me feel a lot better as I watched the rain pour down on what I had envisioned to be a beautiful mountain backdrop. She figured out new creative locations to take photos, and wasn’t worried about standing in the rain herself in order to get a good shot of us. Our wedding was delayed some and then took place in a drizzle, and she and her second photographer didn’t blink at being in some rain. Afterwards, when the rain died down and I asked to get some photos outside, she was thrilled and we waded through the wet grass together. I believe it was her second photographer who caught that the most amazing sky showed up after the rain, and they ran us back out to get some incredible photos. Due to the rain delaying things, we asked if she could stay a little longer, and she was happy to do so. Kirsten sent us so many beautiful sneak peeks just days after the wedding. I couldn’t believe we got so many photos so soon. We got our full photos back this week, right on time from her contract. They’re so beautiful. She did an amazing job taking the photos and editing them. My husband and I can be a little insecure about ourselves in photos, but we are both so happy with them. She did a great job telling us what to do when needed, and then blending into the background as well. I felt really comfortable with her, and appreciated her attitude and kindness. I cannot speak highly enough of Kirsten and would recommend her to anyone!”

Hi, I’m Julianna, a photographer with a passion for moments that matter most. With over 7 years of professional experience, my style blends the timeless artistry of cinema with the authenticity of photojournalism. I document your day as it unfolds naturally, while my cinematic eye ensures every frame is worthy of a film still. My clients often say that I make them feel comfortable, that I’m more like a friend than a vendor, and that my work captures emotions they didn’t even realize they were feeling.

“Julianna was the photographer I was certain I wanted to use even before I was engaged to my now husband. Once engaged, I reached out to her less than a week after the proposal. She was the first vendor we booked for our wedding and I am so beyond happy with our decision to have had her as our wedding photographer. She is SO talented and creative and does such amazing storytelling in her photography. Having our photos tell the story of our wedding day was so important to us and Julianna did such a perfect job capturing every moment and emotion perfectly and beautifully. You cannot go wrong with booking Julianna for your wedding. Aside from her talented work, she is hands down such a genuine and kind person. She made such a comfortable environment during both our engagement shoot and wedding photos, making sure we were comfortable in all of our photos and at ease. She's so easy to talk to, always understanding, and always has a positive energy. We love her so, so much & we highly recommend her!!”

Here's the quick, down-and-dirty version: I've spent my entire career telling stories—first on the radio, then on TV, and then in the various media used in the communications and public relations field. Fifteen years ago, I started telling visual love stories of couples in Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. What started as doing a favor by shooting a friend's wedding, became something I wanted to pursue more wholly. So, let's tell your story. The story of you and the love of your life I can't wait to create something with you.

“Mike is an incredible photographer! He went above and beyond on our wedding day and helped make it really special. He helped us feel relaxed and made us laugh a lot. The pictures are amazing and were delivered in a timely manner. 10/10 would work with Mike again. I highly recommend hiring Thornhill Photography for all your photo needs!”
