Hired a photographer, found a friend!
To any couple considering Michael: book him, trust him, and let him do what he does best. He captured our day with so much beauty, intention, and care. We left our wedding experience not saying goodbye to Michael, but “see you later,” because we genuinely hope to use him for all of our family photo sessions in the future. We found Michael Freas by Googling Pretty Place Chapel photographers, and we were immediately blown away by his talent, his style, and the breathtaking photos he had captured for other couples. From the very first inquiry, Michael was incredible. He responded the same day, shared full galleries from other Pretty Place Chapel couples, and spent the entire day communicating with me to help us choose a date that worked well for both him and us. We basically let Michael pick our wedding date, and little did we know that would be the first of many decisions we would happily trust him with. Looking back, giving Michael full creative control was one of the best choices we made. The day of our wedding was truly the best day of our lives, and so much of that is because of Michael. From well before dawn to well after dusk, he took on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with us and turned it into something we will never forget. He was on time, prepared, thoughtful, calm, and somehow delivered in ways that completely surpassed every expectation we had. Just a wedding photographer? No way. Michael planned, guided, encouraged, organized, and executed our entire day in the most seamless and meaningful way. Even though we eloped, Michael made us feel like we had everyone we needed right there with us. He brought such a steady, joyful presence, and by the end of the experience, he felt much more like a friend than just our photographer. And the photos… WOW. They are breathtaking, awe-capturing, emotional, and beyond anything we could have dreamed of. Michael stunned us with a huge sneak peek and then delivered our full gallery in under one month. Everyone who has seen the photos has had the same reaction: stunning, beautiful, amazing, breathtaking. People keep telling us how happy and beautiful we look, and how incredible the landscapes are. We feel so blessed to have had Michael as our photographer and so much more.

Memorable Moments for a Lifetime!
If we could give more than 5 stars to Michael, we would. Michael is an amazing photographer and beyond that just a genuine amazing human being. When we first started looking for a photographer, we both went into it knowing that we are both incredibly awkward people when asked to pose. With this in mind, we started the big search - the one that everyone reminds you that will tell your stories for years. Enter finding Michael - his website mentioned candidness, and a documentary type of style. Two things that immediately caught our eye - not to mention looking through his previous work- which is just unbelievable! Throughout the year leading up to the wedding, Michael was incredibly helpful. He answered any questions we had and offered super helpful suggestions when figuring out the flow of the day. One tidbit that I would recommend to any bride is work with your photographer to create that timeline - a tidbit from Michael. He also managed to have a blog post for every type of question I had (and I had a lot LOL). A few weeks prior to the wedding, Michael met with us via zoom to go over the different elements of our days and to go over our family list (which was insanely helpful day of because we were able to knock those out)! When our wedding day arrived, he was there early to get everything set up and his presence just put everyone at ease. It felt like someone who had been part of our family friends rather than a wedding vendor - which was another element that was important to us: good vibes! Our wedding day and the pictures felt just like us - entertaining and full of laughter. We hiked through some trails for our first look, walked along a highway, and climbed rocks- which lead to nothing but new memories and lots of giggles. We both were really nervous about taking the posed pics but Michael put us in our natural element and just focused on capturing our story, which was a trend all throughout the day. None of us will ever forget the fact we forgot to tell him we had a 6 foot hoagie at the ceremony. We also had a blast using bubble guns for a photo op fake exit and learned there is such a thing as too many bubbles! Within a day after the wedding, we had a sneak peek - and we generally could not believe how AMAZING our photos turned out. It’s still surreal that we could look that good in photos, he captured exactly what we were hoping -us having the time of our life and starting our life together as husband and wife. CANNOT RECOMMEND HIM ENOUGH! P.S. Plus how awesome is it when your vendors are so cool that they feel like friends by the end of the wedding so you have to get a selfie to commemorate the hours of planning and talking you did to make the day one of the most incredible days EVER!!!

This Is the Photographer You Want
We highly recommend Michael as a wedding photographer. When our wedding was rescheduled due to the Asheville hurricane in 2024, we found Michael—and we’re so grateful we did. Michael was incredibly attentive; before the wedding, he met with us during our venue tasting to understand what we wanted and regularly checked in as we approached our date. On our wedding day, he excelled at organizing everyone—even as rain and lightning approached, Michael made sure every photo we wanted was taken, sometimes with drill-sergeant precision but always with good humor. Michael’s second shooter, Jesse, was also wonderful to work with and helped make the experience enjoyable for everyone. Michael’s strong personality was perfect for us, and the photos are simply stunning—they capture who we are as a couple and look even better than we imagined.
