How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married at Woodsgate at the Stroudsmoor last weekend and to say it was perfect would still be an understatement. All but two of our vendors were internally through the venue and they took care of everything! From food to cake to makeup and hair to decorations, the Stroudsmoor team did a fantastic job putting together such a magical day for my husband and I. Our closest guests and us stayed for the weekend and enjoyed their gorgeous rooms with woodsy views and a delicious breakfast buffet for both mornings. Throughout the weekend, the staff were friendly and personable and were a part of some of our best memories from the weekend. It’s a week later and our guests still have not stopped raving about the food and the incredible service. The price was reasonable and worth every penny! The venue provided use with outstanding vendor recommendations & planning details throughout the year leading up to our wedding and then our wedding coordinator, Alli, brought the whole thing home into a tightly coordinated day that was smooth & spectacular. Our guests raved about the food. The Filet Mignon is worth it & guests were stealing cookies to take home by the end of the night. Ultimately, it is hard to beat how beautiful the property is. “We just had our wedding at Deity in April 2024 and couldn’t be happier with how our special day went. The planning process: After we toured the venue, we knew Deity was special. The pricing was very transparent and super reasonable considering everything that’s included – the venue (lounge, loft, and basement), day-of coordinator, food, 50 bar credit pp, basic décor package, and DJ. The space is gorgeous and so unique, unlike any other venue we’ve attended as guests or toured. Each floor has a purpose and accompanying vibe to match – the bridal suite is relaxing and picturesque (highly recommend adding this to your day for an added cost), the cocktail lounge is dreamy, the ceremony loft (and dinner space) is bright yet cozy, and the basement dance floor is funky and fun. Because the venue was already beautifully designed and all inclusive, the only things we needed to provide for the ceremony/reception were signage (welcome, table arrangements, his/her drinks), minimal décor/flowers (we hired a florist for the ceremony arch and did bud vases for the tables and they turned out beautiful), and dessert. Some (including me) may be nervous about all-inclusive venues, however Deity was so accommodating to the little ways in which we wanted to make our wedding unique, such as incorporating cultural outfit changes into the schedule to setting up a late-night instant noodle bar. Finally, Anna, the coordinator included with the venue, was a godsend. She made the whole wedding planning process so much easier, patiently answered all my random questions, and provided guidance where needed. The day of: Our family and friends were blown away by the bridal suite. We were relaxed the whole morning while getting ready and got some beautiful photos to start off the day. Once the day started rolling, Anna and the whole Deity team were on top of everything. They made sure everyone was on schedule but also were flexible with last minute changes, even making sure my husband and I had private moments to ourselves. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had so many guests compliment the cocktail hour bites and dinner service, even our very picky grandma said it was the best salmon she’s ever had. The drinks were flowing and we had guests commenting on how drink service on the dance floor was genius – everyone could continue dancing and no one was ever waiting with an empty glass. Also, my husband and I were initially nervous about an in-house DJ because we are very picky with music but DJ BenHaMeen was amazing, listened to our wants and needs, and kept the dancefloor lively (our photographer even complimented the music!). All in all, we cannot recommend Deity enough. Our guests are still asking if we can have a wedding there every year (we wish!).”

“TEN REASONS TO BOOK THIS VENUE (even before seeing it in person!) We booked sight unseen to get our preferred date, and the venue is only better in person! 1. Truly all inclusive and QUALITY services/ care. The Summit Team is responsive, flexible, professional, and kind. The local vendors they connect you with are detail oriented and make your vision come to life. We used their florist, DJ, caterer, baker, and photographer. We were thrilled with all of those services! The packages come with a coordinator and planner. They are incredible and make your life SO easy! I had no idea how much a would utilize these services. 2. There is no shortage of adorable decorations for you to choose from, so you save a ton of money by using what they provide (comes with the package) The Summit team sets it up and breaks it down for you. I’m particular and was honest about not liking burlap or lace. They really listened and made sure the style was exactly what I wanted. They have everything available to you on their Pinterest so it was easy to make decor selections. 3. The absolute best mountain view in North GA!!!! And there is no road noise. You might hear a ‘moo’ from the cows grazing on the hill. We toured a ton of venues and felt that a lot of them were too noisy or that parking/ layout was limiting for our handicapped guests. Summit is conveniently laid out and everything is accessible. We didn’t have to hike a mile to get beautiful photos. 4. The food is excellent! We had the Granny’s style menu and guests raved about it! Our cake was also gorgeous. They provided everything needed for dinnerware and refreshments and kept the drink stand replenished all evening while we danced! 5. It’s convenient from the ATL airport, and there’s plenty to do for guests traveling. Our family did a local wine tour. Tube the Cartecay if the weather permits! Some of our guests rented cabins and others stayed at the Hilton in downtown Blue Ridge (we provided a shuttle) and it worked out nicely for everyone! 6. The on-site accommodation (The Lewis House) is adorable! They also help you with recommendations for local accommodations/ transportation if your guests are traveling. 7. Our dog was able to be a part of our photos and ceremony! We only needed someone to take him back to the cabin for the reception. 8. Our loved ones got to enjoy the day with us. I’ve been in plenty of weddings where we worked all day and didn’t get to enjoy the celebration. The Summit Team gave our family and friends the space to cherish our day. 9. We selected the Apple Package upgrades, and our guests loved the boxed apple pies as favors. This was one less thing on our list and I would highly recommend the investment! 10. I enjoyed my wedding. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. Now, a century later, The Boylston Rooms retains the integrity of the 1814 original mill in every brick and beam. Our rental includes planners and decor at no added cost. “We booked The Sanctuary as our venue back in 2023 when they were just re-opening, and we have zero regrets! Every New Yorker should have this place on its radar! The very first day we were there with Fonsi, we knew we were in good hands! Everything was perfect: the pier set-up for the ceremony, the open bar, grazing table and passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour and finally the dessert table and pizza stations for the after party. The food was AMAZING and cooked on-site so it was as fresh as it can be! And then they seamlessly cleared out the cocktail area and transformed it into the dancefloor while we were all enjoying our dinner buffet in a separate tented pavillion. Shout out to Amelia, Frank, Artur, Cat, and the rest of their wonderful team!”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“We had our wedding at Saphire Estate in Sharon, MA, and it was everything we hoped for and more. We chose the venue because it gave us that dreamy garden-meets-New England charm that we really missed living in Florida, plus it’s right across from a beautiful lake that made for stunning scenery. From day one, the process with Saphire Event Group was seamless. Their team was responsive, organized, and so accommodating—especially with us planning everything from out of state. We were lucky enough to be paired with Anne, our day-of coordinator and actual angel on Earth. From the very beginning, she felt like a friend—sweet, funny, genuine, and totally on my wavelength. I worked directly with Becca and Alyssa, who were SO kind, friendly, and welcoming from the start. They truly went above and beyond to make sure every single detail was thought out, beautifully executed, and aligned with the vision!!! I sent over a mood board and gave them full creative freedom to showcase their talents and WOW!!!! SO FREAKING TALENTED!! The florals were exactly what I had envisioned (and somehow even better), the cake was hands-down the most stunning I’ve ever seen, and the venue itself was spotless, bright, and the perfect space for a large group of vendors to come together, create, and feel at home. As a bridal hair and makeup artist, I’ve worked many weddings at The Farm Bakery and Events and can honestly say every one of my brides has had nothing but amazing things to say. The bridal suite is gorgeous with plenty of space for everyone to relax and get ready comfortably. But the venue itself? Even BETTER. Getting to see it all styled in real life (not just through photos) is truly breathtaking. I’ve worked at sooo many venues, and I can confidently say The Farm Bakery and Events is one of my absolute favorites. Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.
