“From the first time I looked through Nathaniel’s work, I knew he understood the kind of magic I wanted captured on our wedding day. There is such a romantic quality to his photography—the colors, the composition, the way he uses the surroundings—and his style felt completely right for us.
And looking at our photos now, I regret absolutely nothing. His work is beautiful.
Nathaniel himself has a very calm, gentle, soft-spoken presence, which was honestly lovely to have around us on such an emotional and overwhelming day. He never felt intrusive or like there was constantly a camera in our faces. There are so many photographs where I look at them and wonder how he managed to capture that particular moment without me even realizing he was there.
One thing I would mention for future couples is that if you have a large wedding party or family that needs some serious wrangling, I would make sure your coordinator or another designated person is prepared to take charge of gathering people and keeping everyone moving through the shot list. Nathaniel is naturally more soft-spoken than commanding, and with a big group and a busy timeline, having someone there who can loudly call names and keep everyone organized would be really helpful. We also occasionally reminded him that we wanted plenty of candid photos throughout the day, as it was easy for everyone to get swept up in everything happening.
That being said, Nathaniel ended up being so much more than just our photographer that day.
Our day-of coordination unfortunately wasn't as present as we had expected, and Nathaniel was frequently the person right there beside us when we needed someone. At one point I spilled a drink and he immediately jumped in to help me clean it up. He tracked down things we needed from the groomsmen. He helped walk us through signing our marriage license. These weren't things that were technically his responsibility, but when he saw that we needed help, he helped. I will always remember and appreciate that.
There is something incredibly reassuring about having a photographer who genuinely cares about the people on the other side of his camera. We spent so much of one of the most important days of our lives with Nathaniel beside us, and his calm presence made him incredibly easy to have there.
Most importantly, though, we have beautiful photographs that actually feel like our wedding.
They are romantic without feeling artificial, colorful without being overdone, and composed in a way that captured just how beautiful the day felt to us while we were living it. There are photos that feel grand and cinematic and others that capture tiny moments I never want to forget.
Wedding photography was something that mattered enormously to me because when everything else from the day is over, these are the images we get to keep. I wanted photographs that would bring me back to how our wedding *felt*, not simply document what it looked like.
Nathaniel gave us that, and I am incredibly grateful he was the person behind the camera on our wedding day.”
