Built in 1898 as Katz Underwear Factory, this historic brick building has undergone restoration and renovation to now celebrate its original beauty; large windows overlooking the Lackawaxen River, original brick walls, cathedral ceilings and grand chandeliers. The riverside and forest view is made even better as the building itself is only a block away from Main Street Honesdale PA. New lodging, restaurants, breweries, bakeries, coffee shops and retail shops are only blocks away. A downtown venue with a beautiful, natural feel from out the windows. What could be better?

The building dates back to 1837, a three-level structure which was built by William Nelson. Peekskill lawyer, Congressman, and friend to Abraham Lincoln. A small stage, built on the 3rd floor in 1870, was identified as the “Dramatic Hall.” This emblematic building had been abandoned for about 20 years and fallen into disrepair until 2012, a complete renovation took place restoring the 1870-era theater. The Dramatic Hall serves as a space to host weddings, private parties, plays, live music performances, and more.

The bar & dining room capture the essence of the era with a fun, modern twist along with a seasonal Backyard Garden. The food menu features classic American bar fare, comforting entrees & (thin) crust pies - with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients. The beverage program features plays on classic Cocktails, including Gus’ favorite, Last Word - complete with his unique twist, 16 draft beers & wine focused on a mix of domestic and international offerings.

For your next social or corporate event, Red Hat on the River invites you to share in our exquisite views and award winning cuisine. We welcome private and semi-private groups for dining in our loft or main floor. For larger affairs, the unique two story layout, along with our riverside patio, provides many options for creating a truly custom event. Michelle VanNess, Red Hat Director of Special Events, has over a decade of experience with Red Hat creating innovative private events ranging from small corporate dinners to elaborate weddings. Her particular skill is understanding that for some, party planning is a chore to be left to others, while for others it is a joy that requires expert assistance and support.
