About this venue

Exchange vows and mingle with loved ones against the backdrop of The Mount’s colorful, award-winning formal gardens and the elegant interior of Edith Wharton’s historic mansion. Spanning nearly 50 acres, the gracious, spectacular estate is the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding. For your ceremony location, choose from the exquisite French Flower Garden, inspired by the gardens at Versailles, or the intimate Italian Garden, inspired by renaissance architecture. After your ceremony you can host cocktails on the expansive terrace overlooking The Mount’s meticulously manicured property and the mountains beyond. With a variety of locations available, the estate and gardens can accommodate weddings of varying sizes depending on your needs. We will provide ideas, but encourage you to make creative choices to individualize your reception. [Photos by Michelle Lange]

Our event spaces

The Gardens

An Image of Wharton's Spirit

The sunken Italian Garden uses serene tones of greens and whites which, combined with porticos and alcoves in the stone walls, creates a cool, shady respite from summer sun. The centerpiece of this garden is a rustic rock-pile fountain surrounded by white begonias. A gravel promenade of pleached linden trees, known as a Lime Walk, connects the Italian Garden to the more formal French Flower Garden. The French Flower Garden’s rectangular pool is surrounded by beds of annuals, perennials and shrubs creating vivid but orderly burst of colors. Wharton loved phlox, stocks, lilies, hydrangea, dianthus, delphinium, and dahlias, all of which still grace the flower beds. The gardens also include a Rock Garden complete with molded Grass Steps cut into a sloping hill, a landscape feature rarely seen in America.

No, we do not have a ballroom or indoor locations for dinner or dancing. However, you may use the interior of the Mansion for Ceremony or Cocktail Hour.
As weather in the Berkshires is unpredictable, you will need to have a rain plan in place for all aspects of your wedding day, including Ceremony, Cocktail Hour, and Reception. Please inquire with your Special Event Coordinator about options and best practices.
Wedding parties may arrive and have private access to The Mount starting at 2pm.
Yes, we have 2 bridal suites for getting ready before the wedding. We ask that all hair and makeup is done before you arrive, but you are welcome to get dressed here.
The Mount offers 6-hour weddings, with a 5-hour Beverage Program. Weddings may begin at 5pm and end at 11pm. In Autumn, you may consider 4pm-10pm instead, due to the early sunset. The bar may open following Ceremony, and will close 30 minutes before the event end, per Massachusetts liquor law

It’s about a quarter (1/4) mile distance. In nice wedding clothes, high heels, and especially if it were to rain, your guests will not want to walk this distance. Additionally, the driveway is not lit at night, because it would not be historically accurate.
The Mount requires our couples to hire a wedding planner, or at least a day-of coordinator. The planner will assist in maximizing your budget and selecting the best vendors. Additionally, they will run your Ceremony and rehearsal, as well as handle your personal items such as escort cards/place cards, guest book, card box and gifts, signage, and favors.
Yes! The Mount is accessible for wheelchairs, with 2 accessible restrooms inside the Mansion, and an elevator on all 3 open floors of the House. There is an accessible door to the Mansion next to the accessible parking spots (5). Additionally, there are wheelchair ramps leading out to the Terrace and leading up to the Italian [sunken] Garden.
You will have a Special Event Coordinator and a Facilities team on-site throughout your wedding day and evening to assist the wedding couple, guests, and vendors as needed.
