Rob Montgomery has over 20 years of experience in the music industry. He studied music and engineering at Ohio State University. After school he worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the steel industry for 5 years. Living in New Orleans fueled his passion for music, and in April 2017 he left the steel industry to pursue music full time. His inspiration ranges from jazz, funk, soul, rock, blues, and much more. His diverse experience and fun loving character helps drive the focus of Sunny Side while still allowing time for several other music projects.

Hot 8 Brass Band is a 2022 Grammy-winning New Orleans based brass band, whose sound draws on the traditional jazz heritage of New Orleans, alongside more modern styles including elements of funk, hip hop, rap, and its local variation, “bounce.” Transcending genres and trends, Hot 8 have performed & collaborated with the likes of Jon Batiste, Blind Boys of Alabama, Basement Jaxx, Alice Russell and George Ezra, provided live support for Mos Def, Lauryn Hill & Mary J Blige. Our 2nd album ‘The Life and Times Of...’ was nominated for a Grammy in 2013 and won a Grammy in 2022 for our work on ‘Album of the Year’ winner, Jon Batiste’s ‘WE ARE’.

The NOLA Brass band is a lively second line styled brass band from New Orleans, LA. It began in 2005 originally with humble beginnings only having three members walking around the 7th ward playing out of the love of the music. Over the course of 12 years, the band would flourish to 8 members along with overcoming many obstacles and setting many milestones for such young musicians. We have recorded 3 studio albums, performed in numerous states and festivals including the Jazz and Heritage festival and Honkfest in Texas. I have logged countless hours being mentored by DJs and producers. Additionally, in 2023 I obtained my bachelors degree from FullSail University in audio production.
