How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We were married 12/27/25 at Woodsgate at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn. There was truly magic in the air. Everything leading up to the day was seamless, and come the wedding weekend, the magic continued. This venue takes care of everything - lodging, decorations, F&B, floral arrangements, wedding cake, hair & make up services, and the on-site team that helps you every step of the way. Woodsgate is simply stunning, the beautiful building along with the ethereal woodland chapel. Although there was a snow storm and we couldn’t use the chapel, the staff ensured we had a beautiful ceremony underneath the outdoor pavilion which was gorgeous in itself. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING, we opted for a welcome hot cocoa bar, 35 passed hor d’ourves for cocktail hour, delicious entrees, an amazing chocolate raspberry buttercream wedding cake, and my personal favorite a milk & cookies dessert bar! We utilized the bridal studio for hair & make up and our ledgemere suite was top tier. We even had our rehearsal dinner onsite at their restaurant in the stone room with a delicious seafood buffet. Grace was our wedding coordinator who is an absolutely doll & was lovely to work with! Our winter wonderland wedding day was so special, so seamless, and was truly the best day of our lives.”

“My husband and I were looking for a high value, reasonably-priced venue in the Brookly area and we found it in DEITY. We were immediately impressed by DEITY wedding packages. We were able to find a package that best fit our vision and budget. “We could not have asked for a more perfect venue for our wedding!! From the very beginning, the communication with the team was responsive and clear, which alleviated any stress and just let us focus on the fun stuff! The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning details like the beautiful wood, stone, and stained glass accents that makes it feel like a little castle in the woods. “We absolutely loved our wedding experience with Chicago Winery. From day 1 they made us feel so welcome, and they were genuinely excited to host and share the day with us (shoutout to Amy!). Planning was so much easier since we did not have to go elsewhere for food or drinks (plus great wine), and the venue itself does not need a lot of extra decor to achieve the vibe you want. The location is also great for guests, since they're near lots of things to do and there are plenty of hotels within walking distance. Our guests absolutely loved the different spaces the venue provides; it was a huge plus to have the terrace remain open throughout the night, so that guests who wanted a break from dancing had another space to be in and mingle. All of the staff did an incredible job, and we received a lot of compliments on the food as well. “We were looking for a modern, not-too-stuffy venue to host our summer 2025 wedding. We were thrilled when we found Walden and saw the beautiful, modern, space that would allow for the ceremony & reception in one location and that we could create our own vision of the day. Having the planning team on site made the process extremely smooth and it was invaluable to have their insight, experience and knowledge of the venue. Krystle and Katie were on the ball and there were no hiccups or issues during the planning process or day of (as far as we know!). They have strong relationships with our vendors (band, florist, linens, lighting, etc) which gave us peace of mind and allowed us to focus on other things. Catering in-house is a huge perk and the kitchen was top notch helping us create our non-traditional menu and food service. Bar options went well beyond typical packages in terms of quality of product and idea generation of drink selection and creation. Universally, guests said that the food and beverage were the best they had had at a wedding! Overall, we are thrilled with how everything turned out on our wedding day and much of that happiness has to do with having it at Walden!”

It has a funky, nontraditional vibe while also providing everything that a traditional wedding venue offers. And oh boy were they attentive during the event. Every time my glass was empty, it seemed Arthur or another member of the team handed me a fresh glass. “The Oviatt made planning and enjoying our wedding exceptionally easy, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to another couple. In fact, two of our friends who'd recently gotten married at The Oviatt were the ones to recommend us the venue in the first place. They did not steer us wrong. The initial touring and on-boarding process was seamless and attentive. We got clear answers to all of our questions and concerns, and the team had no trouble making adjustments as things evolved. The venue-related fees were all extremely reasonable for what you're getting, and we felt it was a tremendous value. If you are someone who's overwhelmed by the planning of it all or doesn't have it in you to evaluate the hundreds of vendors out there, The Oviatt can streamline things through their vetted preferred vendors list. We used this extensively and had a similarly excellent experience with everyone we hired, from catering to photographers to floral. We were also able to find vendors from this list that were able to realize our vision while meeting our budget, which was healthy and had some breathing room but was not exorbitant. We had a lot of extremely specific and arguably unusual requests that the venue team was happy to accommodate, even the week of. They were also there to troubleshoot when we encountered inevitable obstacles during the planning process. The venue itself is as stunning as the photos promise. They've recently been doing some historic refurbishment/restoration work, and the results speak for themselves. We wanted an art deco jewel box, and we got that and more. The penthouse elevator made for a grand entrance statement, and the furnishings gave the proceedings opulence to spare. While there was some concern with how we'd fit 90 guests into the interior spaces for cocktail hour while the terrace was turned over for the reception, we found it actually wasn't any trouble at all. The upper deck remained available and allowed for natural crowd control. The scene was lively and exciting, to be sure, but never uncomfortable. We really can't say enough kind things. The staff on the day were incredible, the attention to detail was immaculate, and everything went as perfectly as one can hope.”

“We had a fabulous wedding reception at the Donauschwaben German Cultural Center (Lenau Park). Their entire staff—from their awesome coordinator Christine to their banquet captain and bar staff—was so kind, so professional, and most importantly made our guests feel welcome and taken care of. Christine came to every meeting organized and prepared. She understands the details as well as the emotions that go into planning a wedding and was a great part of our support system. She is fair and reasonable—even helped us make a German Hall a little more “Italian” for the bride. We could not have asked for a better partner! As for the venue itself, it was the perfect place to host 300 of our closest friends and family. The space was beautiful, bright and happy. Our guests were comfortably seated at 32 round tables of 8 to 10. The team made all of our décor visions come to life. The outdoor patio was welcoming and comfortable for guests as well. The dance floor is huge! Perfect for an Italian tarantella. I would also say the room is set up well acoustically—with 300 people in the room and music playing, you could still hear the other people at your table. The entryway was also perfect for our receiving line. We were happy to see that guests could enjoy their time—whether they wanted to dance the night away, sit and chat, or just enjoy the night air with family. The food was excellent—seriously excellent. We got so many compliments after the wedding! They have their buffet line down to a science with all of our guests being served in a reasonable amount of time. They also did a great job of meeting the needs of our gluten- and dairy-free guests. That is so hard to do when you are feeding so many people, and even these guests said they enjoyed their meals. Finally, the money we spent on this wedding reception was well worth the value. The food and beverage packages are incredibly fair for the quality and the amount of food your guests will be served. We were also able to add appetizers and some special add-ons at a reasonable rate. The linens are provided by a separate vendor, but even those costs were not too bad, and everything looked beautiful when it was decorated! While there are certain rules the venue must follow and sometimes we needed to negotiate the details, Christine was highly transparent and upfront with us, and always worked with us to find the right solution for our day. After hosting our wedding here, we would absolutely do it again with this space and this team. When it comes to the Donauschwaben, we strongly recommend them for your wedding reception and cannot say enough good things about their level of service!”

“The Wheeler House made my dream wedding come true! We just got married there this October and from the moment I finalized a date with them (which they book up QUICK) to the moment I walked down the aisle, they were 100% helpful, professional, friendly and on point! I worked mainly with Laiken throughout the process and then my day of coordinator, Emma, who was fantastic! I never knew how stressful planning a wedding would be, but it was worth every moment once the big day finally arrived. It was nice working with the preferred vendors that The Wheeler House uses, they all work together so well and it takes the stress out of planning. I live out of state so sadly I wasn't able to make it to one of their open houses, but every vendor I spoke to over the phone was very helpful and answered any questions that I had. You will not be disappointed if you choose The Wheeler House for your wedding day, it is an absolutely beautiful venue. The outdoor space for the ceremony is elegant and so pretty. The barn is gorgeous inside with a huge chandelier and fireplace. It's so amazing to see everything bare bones and then how it completely transforms once all the flowers, decor, food, people and music make everything come alive. The actual Wheeler House itself is the perfect backdrop for all the pictures, which really ties it all in. Our families also stayed in the cottages just down the road from the venue and it was the perfect touch! The cottages were so beautiful inside. Its perfect for families or the wedding parties to sleep and get ready in. We were happy we stayed there, it came in handy that they were so close. All my guests had so much fun, I received so many compliments on how perfect everything was and that it was one of the most beautiful weddings they've ever been too! We chose the venue because it gave us that dreamy garden-meets-New England charm that we really missed living in Florida, plus it’s right across from a beautiful lake that made for stunning scenery. From day one, the process with Saphire Event Group was seamless. Their team was responsive, organized, and so accommodating—especially with us planning everything from out of state. We couldn’t attend any in-person meetings aside from our initial visit, and they didn’t skip a beat. My parents even went to our food tasting in our place (bless them), and SEG made it all work without a hitch. We were lucky enough to be paired with Anne, our day-of coordinator and actual angel on Earth. From the very beginning, she felt like a friend—sweet, funny, genuine, and totally on my wavelength. I came into this with messy notes and scattered thoughts, and every time I talked to Anne, she brought clarity and calm. She completely understood the vision, printed and carried around my 3-page Google Doc (LOL), and made sure not a single detail was missed. Even when we made the big decision to change our ceremony location a few months before the wedding, she took it in stride and helped everything fall into place. She had everything perfectly lined up the day of and somehow made me feel like I didn’t need to worry about a single thing Anne, we seriously love you. And to the rest of the team: thank you! Everyone we interacted with on the day of had so much personality, were kind, professional, and genuinely seemed like they loved being there. It made a huge difference.
