How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“Our wedding here was INCREDIBLE and I couldn't recommend it enough. Every single person we worked with was so helpful, kind, and thoughtful and made this process so easy for us. Every single detail was executed perfectly. Every interaction was professional, timely, and warm. For the whole year leading up to our wedding, we felt incredibly supported and cared for. I had so many questions, and the Willowdale team was so prompt, helpful, and kind in their responses. As for the actual wedding, it was a total dream. The food is actually the best food ever... wedding food or not. It's been two months and everyone is still talking about it. The space is GORGEOUS and feels intimate and special while still accommodating larger weddings. Our coordinator, Julia, and the team worked with the florist and all the decor we dropped off ahead of time to execute the design and vision better than I could ever dream up. “We couldn’t have been happier with our experience at Deity. The space is really eclectic in the best way. It balances elegance with a little Brooklyn quirk, especially in the cocktail hour room, which all of our guests loved. From start to finish, the planning process was simple and straightforward. You have one big meeting where everything gets laid out. After that, Anastasia, Caio, and the rest of the team were always quick to respond to emails when we needed to make adjustments. They were professional, organized, and made sure both we and our families felt taken care of throughout the day. Having almost everything in-house (e.g., everything less flowers, cake, photography) also made the whole process less stressful. Compared to other venues we looked at, Deity felt like a value and a way to make our guests feel like they were having an "authentic" NYC/Brooklyn wedding. The food and drinks were another highlight. The short rib was especially memorable, and the bar staff worked with us to create custom cocktails and pre-batch them so no one was stuck waiting in line. The DJ was flexible with our specific music tastes and vision for the evening and collaborated seamlessly when we brought in a drag queen for dinner, which turned into a huge hit with our guests. I’d also recommend booking the couple’s suite. It gave us a place to relax, get ready, and even host a pool party that added a really fun element to the day! “TL;DR - there is plenty of space, the acoustics are awesome, the amenities are plenty and of great quality, and the staff is very friendly and helpful! They have some rules due to the historic nature of the building, but they weren't a problem and the owners will help you figure things out. We rented this space for our wedding. We chose it for a few reasons: -it's very spacious, but the acoustics were still incredible -it's in the middle of town -hotels are a short drive away, plenty of rides available -there is a small lift for those with mobility issues (we had a couple) -the facilities were all clean and new -it is climate-controlled They also supply plenty of chairs and tables, and offer a handful of lighting options (at additional cost) that really make the space feel comfy and welcoming. It's worth noting that Olio is based in a historic building, so there are rules in place to protect the walls, floors, and everything overhead. We didn't find the rules to be a problem, and the owner, Sarah, was very communicative and happy to work with us to satisfy both their rules and our vision. It is also worth noting that, for catering, Olio has a catalog of their own partnered/approved vendors (all full-service) that are trained to work within the rules of the venue. Caterers were available at multiple price points and a variety of cuisines to give plenty of options for people. There is an option to bring in other vendors, but at additional cost due to training. We went with Vinwood Caterers (from their catalog) for our wedding, and were absolutely blown away with the quality of their food and service. Back to the venue itself... When looking online, the pictures were all stunning, but the idea of getting married in a room with concrete walls was admittedly a little off-putting. Once we visited in person, though, we immediately fell in love with it. The nice view of Main Street through the windows and the natural lighting (and later the market lighting and up-lighting) really make the place feel more warm and welcoming than you might expect. There was virtually zero echo in there despite it being so big and open, and the patterning of the concrete is weirdly charming in person, probably thanks to the warm lighting. Pair that with good A/C in the summer and the other things listed above, and we were sold! On the big day, it all paid off and the space felt just as warm and welcoming as we'd hoped. Full-service catering was expensive, but they took care of almost literally everything - including setting up, moving, and breaking down furniture throughout the event - and still provided top notch food and drink. Well worth the cost to not stress about managing all the furniture ourselves and getting out on time. The venue's staff were there to make sure everything was working and kept us informed of things before and during the event. Overall - very glad we went with Olio despite the restrictions. Well worth the time and money for probably the best day of our lives yet!”

The entire wedding party and all the family members who were there the entire day of the wedding had nothing but amazing things to say too...they were all shocked at how much support we had throughout the entire day to the point where we did not have to lift a finger. And don't even get us started on the food and bar...we've never been complimented more in our lives. We were shocked at how insanely good the food and drinks were at our tasting party months before the wedding, but we were curious if it would live up to the hype on our actual wedding day where we had 216 guests. It might've been even better on our wedding day! Guests were raving about our food and drinks. We were told by nearly every guest that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding, bar none. We even had sober people come up to us and go on and on about how amazing even the mocktails were. The only thing we regret is being too excited and not having enough of an appetite to truly enjoy dinner as the bride and groom. But even so, our planning team made sure the servers packaged up our entrees so we could take them home a few days later when we came back to the venue to pick up our belongings. Honestly, there are a million other reasons why we'd recommend Walden for your wedding venue, but this is already getting to be too long of a review. Basically, if you’re looking for an all-inclusive venue where you’re genuinely taken care of every step of the way, we cannot recommend Walden highly enough! At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “I could not say enough good things about this venue. We're SO glad we decided to get married at The Boylston Rooms! The pictures show for themselves how beautiful the venue (and surrounding areas for photography) are, but the staff are what make this place extra special. From start to finish, everyone we worked with was nothing but professional. They were clear and timely communicators, helped troubleshoot things during the planning process, and came with loads of wedding wisdom that helped set us up for success on the big day. A few other things I'll mention: - Their storage room filled with decor you can borrow is SO helpful. Less that you need to buy (and potentially waste post-wedding) and can even make decision-making easier when there are 1,000 versions of the same item online. - Their wedding suites are great to have available too. Obviously for getting ready, but it's also a nice reprieve if you need a quiet moment during the reception. - The Boylston Rooms only works with one caterer, Myer's Catering. Our guests are STILL raving about the food. (There's more flexibility with other vendors). - The Boylston Rooms also owns/is affiliated with The Wedding Day Trolley, which we used to transport our guests to/from the hotel. My partner and I also took some super fun photos inside of the trolley!”

“My mother and I had a joint celebration of our birthdays around late September last year. The venue was everything we could have dreamed of. Since it is situated in Roosevelt Island, it was the perfect venue to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and yet still get a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. The team was also very friendly and supportive to all of our requests and questions. They made sure that our event will go accordingly to what we have envisioned. To top it all off, the food was amazing!!! It is so rare for the celebrants to eat during the event itself but I personally couldn't contain myself. Every dish that was offered during our event was impeccable and there wasn't any miss. There is not one bad thing that I could honestly say about this venue and the team behind. “The Wheeler House made my dream wedding come true! We just got married there this October and from the moment I finalized a date with them (which they book up QUICK) to the moment I walked down the aisle, they were 100% helpful, professional, friendly and on point! I worked mainly with Laiken throughout the process and then my day of coordinator, Emma, who was fantastic! I never knew how stressful planning a wedding would be, but it was worth every moment once the big day finally arrived. It was nice working with the preferred vendors that The Wheeler House uses, they all work together so well and it takes the stress out of planning. I live out of state so sadly I wasn't able to make it to one of their open houses, but every vendor I spoke to over the phone was very helpful and answered any questions that I had. You will not be disappointed if you choose The Wheeler House for your wedding day, it is an absolutely beautiful venue. The outdoor space for the ceremony is elegant and so pretty. The barn is gorgeous inside with a huge chandelier and fireplace. It's so amazing to see everything bare bones and then how it completely transforms once all the flowers, decor, food, people and music make everything come alive. The actual Wheeler House itself is the perfect backdrop for all the pictures, which really ties it all in. Our families also stayed in the cottages just down the road from the venue and it was the perfect touch! The cottages were so beautiful inside. Its perfect for families or the wedding parties to sleep and get ready in. We were happy we stayed there, it came in handy that they were so close. All my guests had so much fun, I received so many compliments on how perfect everything was and that it was one of the most beautiful weddings they've ever been too! “The Oviatt Penthouse was the first and only venue we toured. It was love at first sight. We wanted an Old Hollywood/jazz nightclub vibe and the venue just fit the bill. The interior is fully furnished and it will transport you back in time to an Art Deco era. Very minimal wedding decorations are needed. Outside, the view of DTLA day or night will take your guest’s breath away. Once contract was signed, the planning process was easy peasy. They have a helpful Preferred vendor list so we were able to book a great caterer and day of coordinator right away. The Oviatt planning team, Lindsey and Cami, were so kind and patient with my multiple questions. Day of the wedding, the Oviatt staff were a super hero team. They were in constant communication with each other and my wedding coordinator to run things smoothly. Also very sweet and friendly. Shoutout to valet, security, and bartender! 3 All in all, our wedding was a magical day thanks to the Oviatt’s wonderful atmosphere. After it was all over, I received multiple messages from guests raving about my wedding. Some told me it was one of the best and most unique wedding experiences they have ever attended. “Choosing the Red Barn for our wedding venue was the best decision we made!! The venue is absolutely gorgeous, the staff and on-site coordinators are absolutely incredible, and everything was so seamless from beginning to end, from the planning stages to the wedding day. Our venue coordinator Emily was a dream—she was so easy to work with and made the process a breeze: After we booked all our vendors ourselves and planned all our details, we met with Emily multiple times to talk about the day-of, and she was there on-site to make sure everything went smoothly (including setting up our decor, cuing the music and recessional/processional for our ceremony, keeping the timeline on track, and handling everything else that came up during the wedding day). Our day was absolutely perfect! She’s a superstar! For the venue itself, we can’t recommend it enough. The reception space is stunning, the foyer area for cocktail hour was perfect, and there’s a bridal suite for the bride/groom and bridal party. Staying at their sister property, the Stage House Inn gave us access to a shuttle service to and from the inn to the venue, which made the wedding day so easy (and the hotel is great!) We didn’t use the outdoor spaces as much because we got married in December, but we took some photos and the golf course and brick architecture were perfect backdrops. Overall, we really cannot recommend the Red Barn enough. From the absolutely amazing, friendly and welcoming staff (from the sales team to coordinators to catering and bar staff) to every single detail, we’re so happy with our wedding! If you’re considering booking the Red Barn, do it!”

Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn.
