How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“Amazing!!!!! We had our wedding at Deity on June 21, 2024. We are not exaggerating when we say it exceeded our wildest dreams. We chose Deity because we wanted a very Brooklyn vibe to our whole day, and you just can’t beat this space: the exposed brick, the lighting, the vintage feel of the bridal suite, the speakeasy-like atmosphere of the cellar, and the gorgeous building were exactly what we wanted. And then we met the staff. We could write a book about the people who work and run Deity; they made our day. Anna and Caio radiate love of love, and they are clearly committed to making weddings magical. We were so calm on the day of our wedding thanks to them. Every single person on the staff was thoughtful, personable, kind, and professional. The guests raved about the staff, the food (the food!!! Omg delicious!), the space, the DJ (Ben was awesome!), and the bartenders. Our wedding felt seamless and we actually got to enjoy every moment. We’d say the bridal suite is a must; it’s gorgeous and it added so much to the day to get ready there and have a first look. We faced a heat wave, so we barely used the rooftop, but it was lovely to go up there for photos. We did a tasting of the food beforehand and were so impressed, and it tasted even better day-of. The chef also surprised us with an epic cheese and fruit platter in addition to the appetizers during cocktail hour, and our guests loved it. Anna, the day-of coordinator, and Anastasia both took really good care of us. They built in moments for us to have alone time, helped us with our clothes and belongings, and kept everything moving smoothly. The pricing, as advertised, is transparent and there are no hidden fees. It was a really affordable wedding for New York and for us, and we appreciated that we were able to budget for it from the start with no surprises. “We had our wedding at Chicago Winery in May and we cannot recommend the venue enough! Having everything handled “in house” made the entire planning process stress free. At the same time, the entire CW team was amazing to work with to help bring our vision to life and make even the little details feel custom for us. From the first venue tour, to getting to try all the food at the unique CW couples tasting, and now being able to go back to the wine bar any time for a date night, CW made the entire process enjoyable and made us feel special. We also had the pleasure of having Chris assigned as our Event Manager and we cannot speak highly enough! He was such a joy to work with, had great suggestions every step of the way, and made sure even our little notes were executed flawlessly. “In 2021 my boyfriend and I attended a wedding at Olio and couldn't believe how perfect the space was. Being from the north shore, it was easy to get to which we loved. Once we got to the dinner portion of the wedding and had chicken parm (not your traditional wedding piece of chicken or steak) - we thought, this is the best wedding ever! When we got engaged in December 2023, the first, and only tour we had was at Olio. We assumed there would be no availability for 2024, but Sarah was able to secure us with the perfect date in June (just six months away). We knew we didn't want a traditional wedding, and loved the fact that Sarah supported our non-traditional, crazy ideas. When I took my grandmother to visit the space, she met Sarah and said "she's so nice and thoughtful, but you must have to be to work in this industry" I can confidently say after planning my wedding in 6 months that not all vendors are like Sarah and the team at Olio! They go ABOVE and BEYOND to help you create your perfect day. They are incredibly fast at responding, and always taking the time to reply with kindness which goes a long way. Sarah & team helped us craft the most perfect PARTY atmosphere for our 200 guests. We went with Premier as our caterer and loved being able to hire local Peabody establishments for food, shoutout to Champions Pub, Toscanas, and an INCREDIBLE grazing board by Edex Provisions (right outside of Olio!) Followed by epic late night snacks from McDonalds. Olio allowed us to create the wedding menu of our dreams :) I would absolutely recommend working with Sarah and the team at Olio. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. She made wedding planning a breeze and was always available to answer any questions I had. I never once felt stressed in the process thanks to her. She was amazing day one and made sure everything was absolutely perfect and just the way I wanted it! Our guests raved about how helpful Emma and all of the staff were, as well as how delicious the food was! “The Oviatt is a wonderful venue and it was such a pleasure working with Lindsey and Gabe! We knew during our tour that the Oviatt was the right venue for us. The size (for small-medium sized weddings), location, and character of the venue is really unparalleled. Then layer on top table and linen deal when you work with a preferred catering vendor and the Oviatt is the best deal in town! Gabe was very helpful during the touring and contracting phase. He communicates very clearly which made the process very smooth. There were no surprise charges at any point. The cost of everything was communicated very clearly upfront. Then, once we signed the contract, we worked with Lindsey, the director of events who supports the planning phase. Lindsey answered all of our questions in a timely and patient manner. She never hesitated to answer our questions, even when the answers to our questions were clearly outlined in the welcome packet! The event planning tools the team uses makes it incredibly easy to stay up on all of the planning details from floorplan to linen selections, to guest count - the tool handles it all with clear deadlines for each task. Finally, on the day of our wedding the Oviatt team executed the event so smoothly. Everything went off without a hitch! Our guests were so impressed by the venue. Quintessential LA rooftop vibe with art deco architecture. Such a treat. We would recommend the Oviatt to anybody looking to get married in the downtown area. The Oviatt is reasonably priced, the staff are incredibly professional and reliable, and are just nice people. We are forever grateful to the Oviatt staff for helping us have our perfect wedding!”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

Stephanie was our coordinator and made sure every detail was perfect. She answered all my questions along the way (which was a lot haha). The whole team at Leola was kind, professional, communicated clearly and detail oriented. Also, the food was absolutely amazing, our family and friends raved about it! It was the best wedding food we ever had, it was like high-end restaurant quality food!! Stephanie and her team worked with my other vendors like DJ, and photographer to ensure everything ran smoothly, which it did! The florist at Leola is also great! Everything they did was beautiful and exactly what I described to them. Every detail was literally perfect on my wedding day and I couldn't be more thankful! I loved that our guests could book a room at the Inn so no one had to drive after the reception. The Inn at Leola Village definitely stands out as a top notch wedding venue, I highly recommend them!! We will be spending many anniversaries here as well!”
