How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“You generally only get one wedding, which means going into the day without knowing about a lot of the tiny details that go into making a wedding run smoothly. You do the research, you read the blogs, you study your friends' weddings and get tons of advice, but still you don't know what it's really like. The staff at Deity do--they do this every day. I could write about how great the space is, how much fun everyone had, and how reasonable the price was, and I'll get to all of that, but I want to emphasize what the pictures can't. Our wedding day ran smoothly and comfortably for us and our guests, and it's due to the staff at Deity. They anticipated our needs, gave us lots of helpful advice in both the planning stages and the day of, and went above and beyond to make sure we had the wedding we wanted. Anna, the coordinator, answered my endless emails and asked even more questions that hadn't occurred to me, and on the day of she handled everything so seamlessly I actually got to enjoy myself; Caio, the owner, gave our officiant (my brother) tips about when to move the mic for the smoothest possible ceremony, and made sure my train looked perfect right when I first stepped out into the aisle; and none of the staff batted an eye when I came down an hour before the guests were arriving to say I needed help hiding clues for a scavenger hunt that I had not told them I was planning. They made sure my husband and I got something to eat and a quiet moment to ourselves, they helped us load an Uber at almost midnight on a Sunday with all the stuff we'd brought. They made the whole day feel seamless and fun, and I cannot thank them enough. Also, so many of my guests made a point to tell me how good the food was. I'll admit, I was a little nervous about committing to the in-house catering without a tasting (we were lucky enough to get a sample from Chef James on our initial tour), but my fears were entirely unfounded. The passed appetizers were genuinely amazing, and the food served at the family-style dinner was tasty and actually hot, which I feel like is rare amongst weddings I've been to. They also were very helpful in accommodating our guests with dietary restrictions, including coordinating an order from a restaurant for a celiac guest, whom their kitchen wasn't equipped to serve. The bar was also great, helped us come up with custom cocktails, and there was cocktail service everywhere, including on the dance floor. When I factored in the food and drink to the total cost we paid for Deity, it's also a really good deal, compared to other local catering options! I won't say too much about the space because you can see it in the pictures and judge the vibe for yourself on a tour. But I will say that having different spaces for the different parts of the event was great, and having the suite for getting ready (and for retreating to when we needed a moment) was a godsend--not to mention wonderful for our photos! Sunset skyine photos without leaving the venue? Don't mind if I do! The location was great for both our in town guests, and those staying at nearby hotels. If you like the look of Deity, don't hesitate. I hope your wedding there turns out just as wonderful as ours!”

“The Olio is a beautiful space that is perfect for the couple that wants to customize their wedding and/or reception space. My husband and I were able to have an on-site wedding and reception with approximately 190 guests. The space never felt too cramped. Our vendors were accommodated well. We were able to bring in the caterers that reflected our heritage. Because the Olio is a blank slate, we were able to create a decor plan that was complimented by Olio's uplights. For our ceremony, we had gold lights. For our ceremony, we had blue and purple uplights that worked perfectly with our decor and signified the change between the ceremony and reception. Sarah is an amazing owner. She responds quickly and gives feedback that helps optimize the space. We originally wanted our DJ, bar, and lounge area in different parts of the space. Sarah made suggestions, which she made clear that we understood that they were not mandatory. We took her suggestions and it made the space work perfectly. “Our wedding day & the planning leading up to it was absolutely perfect and we can't thank the Chicago Winery staff (especially our event manager Hulda!) enough for making our wedding come to life exactly as we dreamed it. “We had the absolute BEST experience having our wedding at The Boylston Rooms! Myles and Erin are an absolute dream team!! Even though we had the time of our lives at the wedding, it was bittersweet knowing our time working with them had come to a close. As a queer couple, when searching for venues it was important to us to have our wedding at a place that actively showcased LGBTQ couples and made us feel as though we would be accepted and celebrated. The moment we walked through the door and got to talking and touring with Myles, we knew The Boylston Rooms had to be our venue! From there, the planning process was so enjoyable! Not a lot of venues offer such careful, personalized attention along with a HUGE room of decor to help your day come to life. “My husband and I got married at The Sanctuary last weekend and had the time of our lives! We fell in love with the venue early on in our search and were shocked by how affordable it was for NYC given all that it included. From the large bridal suite (really, house!) to the quality food and the fire pit, we were blown away by it all. They were able to accommodate everything we asked for, including having our dog participate in the ceremony and having enough coupe glasses for our signature drink. I’m not sure I heard “no” once from Arthur and his team! Truly incredible service. All of our guests raved about how cool the venue was. It has a funky, nontraditional vibe while also providing everything that a traditional wedding venue offers. And oh boy were they attentive during the event. Every time my glass was empty, it seemed Arthur or another member of the team handed me a fresh glass. Our package included a lot of extras (DJ, cake, late-night pizza), which just added to the incredible value. Thank you SO much Sanctuary team for making our wedding an incredible night!”

Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. Maddison was my venue coordinator who answered all of my questions and was excellent with assisting with the planning and making sure everything was set for our wedding day! I also had an event coordinator who spent the day with us to make sure everything was running smoothly. They did have two weddings that day so having an event coordinator who could speak with the other coordinator was a huge bonus. Also the food- to die for! It was soooo good and was definitely a favorite for my guests. Not to mention the views! Nazareth has so many spots inside and outside that make the most beautiful wedding photos!
