Rental costs will vary depending on the specific day of the week and when you would like to access the venue. Contact us, and our team will get back to you with pricing information for your dates! Also, feel free to check out our public calendar on our website for available date information. Memorial House is open for events any day of the week; typical rental times are 9 am - 2 pm or 3 pm - 10 pm. (4pm - 11pm is available on Fridays and Saturday only, no exceptions)

How many people can Memorial House accommodate?

For the comfort and safety of your guests, we ask that you do not exceed 300 people. We can accommodate up to 150 people in the main hall for a sit-down dinner, and depending on your desired setup, additional dining space may be available in the garden room, patio, or the south lawn.

Can I serve alcohol at my event?

Alcohol is allowed at Memorial House, but must be served by a bartender licensed to serve at our venue. Bar service should be arranged through one of our preferred caterers or through one of our pre-approved bartending services to ensure that bartenders are certified, licensed, and insured. If you are interested in using a bar service that is not on our list, we may be able to accommodate this, subject to approval, and will not require a fee. How does parking work for the event?

Parking for Memorial House guests is available on the street within Memory Grove Park, accommodating about 140+ cars. As part of your rental, all guests are allowed entrance into the security gate to park vehicles inside Memory Grove Park. If you are having a larger reception, we ask that you inform some of your guests to park in our overflow lot to minimize congestion.

How can I decorate the building?

You are welcome to decorate as you wish; however, Memorial House is a historic building, so tacking, taping, nailing, and tying to any surfaces is not allowed. Candles are not permitted at Memorial House. For send-offs, sparklers and other forms of fireworks are not allowed, per park rules. Items that are difficult to clean up, such as confetti, rice, flower petals, streamers, and balloon releases are not permitted.

Is your building ADA accessible?

Yes. Memorial House is fully ADA accessible, with designated accessible parking, a ramped entrance, and barrier-free access throughout the venue. All event spaces—including the Main Hall, Garden Room, and outdoor areas such as the South Lawn, Fountain Area, White Monument, and Meditation Chapel—are accessible for guests of all abilities.

What time does our event need to end?

Accepted Answer

All events must conclude promptly at the agreed-upon end time. All guests, vendors, vehicles, décor, and personal items must be fully removed from Memorial House property no later than the contracted end time, or a fee will be incurred. The rental period for your event is stated in the contract and includes all setup and takedown of personal items and vendor rentals. Additional fees may apply for early access or late departure.

When do we finalize the details of my event?

We hold a one-hour logistics meeting about 30 to 45 days before your event to review and finalize all venue-related details. Before that, we’ll provide an Event Planning Worksheet to help you prepare. If you need assistance with overall event planning, we recommend hiring a professional planner.

Question 11

How do I secure a date?

Accepted Answer

Reservations require a signed contract and a non-refundable security deposit of $500 that will be applied to the total rental fee. The remaining balance is due 45 days before your event. If you would like to inquire about booking an event, contact us. We require a tour before all bookings unless you have booked with us before.

Who can cater my event?

Accepted Answer

Memorial House does not provide in-house catering, but we’re proud to offer a carefully selected list of preferred caterers who provide excellent service, diverse menu options, and complete event support, including bussing and cleanup. If you’d like to use a licensed caterer not on our list, we can often accommodate with approval; please note there is a $500 outside catering fee per caterer. For safety, all food must be prepared and served on-site by a licensed caterer. You can see our full list on our website.

Will you help us plan our event?

At Memorial House, our venue staff and coordinators are here to support your event by managing all venue-related responsibilities. However, we do not provide wedding planning or day-of coordination services. If you're looking for someone to oversee your event timeline, manage décor details, or handle any last-minute adjustments, we strongly recommend hiring a professional planner or coordinator. A dedicated planner will be familiar with your overall vision and preferences, and we’ll work closely behind the scenes with them to ensure your event runs smoothly.

Do you have audio/visual equipment on-site?

Because of the unique historic nature of Memorial House, our main hall does not have a built-in speaker system. However, we do offer a simple and effective AV setup to support your event needs. To learn more - contact us

Do I have to schedule a tour, or can I come in anytime to see the space?

We don’t hold regular office hours, so tours are by appointment only. Please contact us to tell us about your event and request a tour. We’ll get back to you within a few business days with more information and available tour times.

Who is responsible for cleaning up after the event?

Our venue staff will take care of cleaning our venue and packing up all venue-provided tables, chairs, and linens. Food-related cleanup—such as bussing tables, tidying the food area, and taking out trash—must be handled by your caterer. If your caterer does not provide this service, the renter is responsible for those tasks. This is why we strongly recommend hiring a full-service caterer so you can relax and enjoy your event. All décor and personal items brought in must be removed from the venue by the end of your rental period. We do not offer next-day pickup.

As part of your rental, all guests are allowed entrance into the security gate to park vehicles inside Memory Grove Park. In the rare event that an overflow lot is needed, guests will be directed to East Capitol Boulevard and directly connected to the park by the Rotary Steps. No cars can be left overnight, or they will be towed.
