An expert on wild and beautiful locations on the West Coast (California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii) I am a full time photographer with a passion for creating timeless and candid art about your life. I service all of Southern California, Northern California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii regularly, and will travel anywhere you want me to go to document your love!
My photos are cinematic and dreamy, capturing the emotion and candid moments on your wedding or elopement. I love to tell stories through images and being super observant and in touch with your emotions definitely helps me capture your true feelings. I choose specific lighting for my images because that also truly helps design the feeling of images. I am also a very intuitive person, which helps me notice when you don't feel comfortable while we are taking photos. My main goal is to help you feel comfortable and have fun while we document your love

2 hour engagement session at 1-2 close locations. This is perfect if you are looking to have photos that capture your love in your favorite or sentimental setting- the beach or maybe in the desert. A mini adventure day where we will start 2 hours before sunset and shoot until sundown. Includes 2 outfit changes, 100-150 final images.

4 hour engagement session at 2-3 close locations. Perfect if you are wanting to create an adventure out of your day together! Get your favorite coffee together, ride bikes, get a drink at your favorite bar, walk around your favorite neighborhood, go on a hike to a beautiful vista cliff edge overlooking the ocean, set up a picnic at the beach, sunset photos. Includes 2-3 outfit changes, 150-200 final images & 1 FREE roll of film :)

The Courthouse Elopement

Stunning photos, calming presence
From the moment we first spoke with Michelle, we knew she would be the perfect wedding photographer for us. Her calming, clear, and positive communication style instantly put us at ease. On our wedding day, Michelle's editorial eye and calming presence were invaluable. She directed us with ease, ensuring we felt comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Michelle anticipated all the shots we needed and handled any little issues that came up, like helping me fix my dress straps when they broke and helping me put on my veil. We were thrilled with the stunning, editorial-style photos she captured. Loved Michelles work!
Michelle Lanning Photography was a dream to work with for our elopement. She was clear and consultative in communication, helping us understand her process and offering thoughtful suggestions to make our vision come to life. On the day of, Michelle was a calm, reassuring presence, guiding us through the timeline seamlessly. She helped with posing and felt like we were working with a friend! We love her work! It is simply stunning she captured heart-warming photos beautifully and the intimacy of our special day. Michelle helped with location scouting and advised us on the best time of day for our shoots to ensure we had the most magical memories. We are thrilled with the results and would reach out to her again in a heartbeat to capture future events.
Nothing Short of Perfection
From the moment we started working with Michelle, she made us feel calm, supported, and truly cared for. On our wedding day, her presence alone brought so much peace. She felt like a trusted friend who was fully there for us and genuinely invested in making our day special. Taking photos with Michelle felt natural and easy. She guided us gently and made the experience fun and comfortable, allowing us to be ourselves and stay present with each other. Nothing ever felt rushed or awkward, just joyful and real. Michelle went so far beyond what we ever expected from a photographer. She helped us pull everything together, including picking flowers and making our bouquets when we didn’t have any. She helped with our timeline, locations, and made sure the entire day flowed smoothly. She even drove us everywhere we needed to go, all while keeping us calm and grounded. Michelle married us, photographed us, and captured video all on her own, which still amazes us. Somehow, she was everywhere at once, quietly capturing the most meaningful moments without ever interrupting them. When we saw our photos and video, we were overwhelmed in the best way. She captured the emotions, the love, and the little in-between moments so perfectly. Looking through everything brings us right back to how the day felt, and that is something we will forever be grateful for. Choosing Michelle was one of the best decisions we made. She gave us memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives, and we cannot recommend her enough.
Went to the wrong location & did not photograph us
We booked Michelle to take photos for our courthouse elopement in July 2024. Now this is not a review of her photos, which look beautiful, but of our experience with her. Communication with Michelle was great leading up to the wedding however, she went to the wrong courthouse on the day of our wedding and was not able to photograph us. While she initially apologized, every subsequent time she alluded to not photographing the wedding she said she was “unable to attend”. When in fact, she was able to attend, she just did not go to the right place even after I had texted her the address the night before. She was able to get a replacement photographer to come & photograph our wedding, which we were grateful for but of course it was not her or her style. After our shoot with a different photographer she texted us (without any apology) & reminded us that she will be requiring the full amount of the remaining balance. This was crazy to us considering she didn’t do any of the work, but we figured she still has to edit photos. Fast forward, 5 weeks later we had not received our photos or any updates. We emailed Michelle & asked if she had an ETA on the photos. She replied saying that according to our contract, delivery is within two months. However, our contract actually stated that delivery would be within four weeks and that storage of the photos would be 2 months. We told her this & she said she would get the photos to us by the end of the week with no apology for the delay. Once she finally sent us the gallery, she let us know that she was dealing with some personal issues which led to the delay in photos. While we understand that sometimes things happen, she should have at least communicated that to us. After going through the photos we realized that at least half of the photos that we took were missing from the gallery. We emailed her again and she asked which photos we were referring to. She replied alleging that she did edit the photos and maybe there was some error when uploading the photos. We did not receive the rest of the gallery for at least another week & a half. The communication with Michelle was terrible & her lack of accountability & the delay in photos was dumbfounding especially since she went to the wrong courthouse and did not photograph our special day! We are so disappointed that this happened because we loved her style & were really hoping our wedding photos would turn out as amazing as the ones we have seen.
