About Top 10 Portland DJ Dan

Portland DJ Dan

Head DJ and MC

After very successful professional stints in LA (30 years) and on Maui, (9 years), I relocated to Portland in 2017. I have collected dozens of 5 Star reviews from happy brides and couples. Since then I earned accolades as a 'Couples Choice' Award Winner on another platform and was also selected as a 'Top Ten Portland DJ' by editors at TheWeddingRule site.

A track record of success characterized by consistent reliability as a consummate professional in my field. As an MC I have been described as a warm, funny, and classy professional who guides and directs his events from the first song to the final dance. Before hiring I ask my clients to simply read my reviews. I prefer to let my past clients do the talking!

I had multiple long calls with Dan leading up to the wedding. These calls were to get to know us as a couple, what kind of music we liked, details/timeline for the day, etc. Dan asked that we put together a playlist for him, as well as send him our processional and recessional songs, which we did. I had extremely high expectations based on the conversations, but the wedding reception left much to be desired. The ceremony music/sound was great, but the reception music was awful. So awful that people still joke about our horrible wedding music. None of the songs we had on our playlist were played during the reception (except one). I kept sending my guests/siblings/bridesmaids up to the DJ booth to find out when my music would start, and they told me Dan was purchasing songs on iTunes to play at my reception. The music that wasn’t requested was a bad mix of 2010s pop music, with some repeat songs. For a professional DJ and 1200 I expected that he might have a nice mix of songs set up inspired by my playlist, or even just a Spotify premium account. Instead we got bad music with no mixing, dead silence between songs, and no one dancing. It would have been better to rent equipment and have my brother play a playlist from his phone. Big disappointment for us and big disappointment to my dad who paid the cost.
