Founder & CEO

Tinsel Singers, Austin’s premier vocal jazz company, was founded in 2015 with a vision rooted in equity and community care. CEO Laura Mercado-Wright is a Grammy® and Latin Grammy®-nominated singer who set out to create a company that honors excellent artistry while guaranteeing fair compensation for performers. Tinsel Singers specialize in classical and jazz styles of a cappella singing, and are proud to offer the highest quality performances for your special day!

Our roster of 25+ singers have extensive vocal training, many hold graduate and post-graduate degrees in music performance. We rehearse together regularly to hone our blend as an ensemble, and each of our singers is a compelling soloist as well. We are experienced interpreters of both classical and jazz, and can perform in a variety of other musical styles upon request. We also have our own song arrangers who can create custom selections for your ceremony, with enough notice.

    Hire these people.

    I cannot recommend Tinsel Singers any more highly. We hired them to sing at our December brunch to add some holiday flair and they delivered on every note. Not only did they have what seemed like an endless repertoire, but they took requests and even did a special arrangement of a traditional Hanukkah song for one of our guests. They are professional and so easy to work with that this was a no-brainer for any holiday soire - and I hear they are now doing weddings and other special occassion events throughout the year! I can't wait to see what they put together for the other 10.5 months of the year! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

    We have hired the Tinsel Singers a few times over the years and they always bring joy, energy, and pure Christmas sparkle to our event, and we are still talking about them. Their vocals are stunning, their harmonies are tight, and their festive presence instantly lifted the entire room. From classic holiday favorites to fun, upbeat numbers, they had everyone smiling and fully in the spirit of the season. They were professional, polished, and a total pleasure to work with from start to finish. You can tell they genuinely love what they do—and that joy radiates straight to the audience. If you’re looking for something special that feels both classy and fun, the Tinsel Singers deliver in every way. If you’re in Austin and want unforgettable entertainment (now not just holiday!), book them. Truly one of the highlights of our celebration!

We employ over 25 professional singers from the Austin area, all with degrees in music performance and decades of combined experience in classical and jazz styles.
Our specialties are classical and vocal jazz, but we can also perform pop, country, and folk arrangements of songs upon request. Most often we sing a cappella (without instruments), but if you book one of our DJ packages, we can add backing tracks.
We can offer trios of high voices (think The Andrew Sisters from the 1940’s) or quartets of high and low voices (like Manhattan Transfer). We can also offer soloists with our DJ packages, or special arrangements can be made to book a pianist or other instrument to accompany a solo singer.
Right now we are focused on ceremony music only, but as our catalogue of songs grows, we will expand to cocktail hours and receptions too!
The short answer is yes! If there’s a specific song you want us to perform at your ceremony, we can discuss an additional fee to secure permission from the composer to arrange it for you. We just need enough lead time to get permission, write the arrangement, and then practice it for your big day!
Our regular performance attire is black cocktail dresses and black suits, with silver accents. We can swap out our silver for a pop of color that matches your color story!
