Constructed in 1932, this vintage barn oversees 12+ acres of native grasslands – a rich habitat for wildflowers, birds and butterflies – and a historic farmhouse built in the 1750s by a second-generation Quaker farmer. The property is also home to Pinelands Preservation Alliance, whose mission is to protect the natural resources, history and culture of this unique region. In 2017, the Alliance transformed the barn into a great gathering place. The Whitechapel Projects was developed in a 120 year Warehouse complex through an environmentally friendly construction process called adaptive reuse. Adaptive reuse takes a structure that has outlived its usefulness, deconstructs it, and rebirths it using its original construction material. During the deconstruction process, we harvested 72,000 bricks, over 3 tons of timbers, tin ceilings, doors, pipes and even plywood. The harvested material was used in the reconstruction process to pave the courtyard, build walls, furniture, bars, tables , tap handles, and more.
