I booked our Holiday office staff party at Battle GR for a nice mix up to the usual 'everyone get dressed up to eat a huge dinner where you can only socialize with who youre sitting next to'. When we arrived for our get together, our food was served hot and ready to fill our bellies before axe throwing and laser tag. The axe throwing was great, and I was really impressed at just how large this whole facility was. The laser tag was also great, but could use a few upgrades regarding the equipment used for it, and the games that are offered with larger groups. The facility was clean and staff was great. Great space to get your people out moving in a way they usually dont! Love to bring out some friendly competition.

Venue considerations

  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
  • No dedicated areas for getting ready

I would highly recommend Thousand Oaks for future brides. The coordinators are very organized and attentive and the packages are clear in their descriptions. However, being part of a larger entity, there is no wiggle room for negotiation. For example, we wanted to substitute Riesling instead of moscato. We couldn’t make that switch, but they did offer the Riesling at a consumption rate. That is our only complaint. The food, the cleanliness and appearance of the venue, and the staff were all excellent.

The Cheney Place is absolutely AMAZING. We had our wedding there on August 16, 2025 and everything was taken care of down to the smallest detail. It was such a relief to walk into the venue in the afternoon and see that our vision had completely come to life. Since we are not based in Grand Rapids, we initially worried some of the coordinating may be a bit difficult. But The Cheney Place team was so incredibly kind and accommodating from the time we picked the venue. We'd like to especially highlight Meg, who served as our day of contact and was absolutely amazing. To the entire TCP team - you guys made our day so special and we cannot recommend working with Cheney Place enough.
