In 1910, President Taft signed the bill to establish Glacier National Park as the country’s 10th national park. Mr. Healy was given a plumbing contractor for the train depot here in St. Paul, where he met Samuel Bartlett, the architect of many of the railroad depots and Glacier National Park Lodge. Healy then commissioned Bartlett to renovate and enlarge the house. In 1914, the farm was sold to John Healy, the owner of Healy Plumbing and Heating Company of St. Paul. Mr. Healy’s company became closely tied to the Great Northern Railroad, as it provided the heating and plumbing for many of the train depots that were being built around the country at that time. The farm was named Hope Glen Farm, the name of John Healy’s mother’s maiden name of Hope, and the house settles in a Glen, thus Hope Glen.

In 1900, Frank D. Stout inherited part of his father’s lumber fortune, moved to Chicago, and within a few years was one of the wealthiest men in the country. Stout's was built in 1903 by Frank D. Stout as a summer retreat for his family and modeled after the famous Adirondack camps. Over the past 25 years, new cabins have been erected and we now have a total of 43 guest rooms on the Island. Imagine a ceremony on the South Lawn with panoramic views of Red Cedar Lake or a tranquil gathering in the former Stout Family master bedroom with a wood-burning fireplace. Stout’s Island Lodge offers an elegant yet relaxed setting with a selection of private event spaces for intimate groups to large tented weddings for up to 175 guests. Stout’s Island Lodge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of Historic Hotels of America.

Almquist Farm is a fifth generation family farm homesteaded by Charles Almquist after he immigrated from Sweden in 1890. The St. James Hotel is an official historic Minnesota wedding venue in the heart of downtown Red Wing, Minnesota. The Lowell Inn, located in the heart of historic downtown Stillwater, MN is just steps from unique shopping, attractions and the scenic St. Croix River. Established in 1927 and on the National Historic Register, the Lowell Inn offers 23 beautifully restored, private romantic guest rooms featuring today’s amenities, and 12 contemporary rooms in the new annex. The Lowell Inn also features a banquet hall as well as event rooms for smaller events.

For centuries, the beauty and natural treasures of the St. Croix Valley have drawn people to the area which is now Stillwater. The first to call this area home were the Sioux and Chippewa Nations. Later, the first traders and trappers in Minnesota Territory settled here. By the mid 1880’s, railroading and river activity helped build the community into a bustling town of 13,000 people. Stillwater became the trade center for miners and trappers to the North, and farmers and lumbermen to the West. The Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad eventually saw a need for a freight depot. In 1979, the historical significance of the building was recognized and the Freight House became the first building in Stillwater to be placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
