“Maurissa was without a doubt the BEST DECISION we made for our wedding day! I literally cannot say enough good things to do her and her services justice. Even our whole wedding party and family that interacted with Maurissa throughout wedding day have also shared how awesome she was. She was fantastic from the moment we had our first introduction – she was so communicative and reassuring and worked with us to make sure we knew everything about Mind of Mo services prior to booking. That first impression is what helped us make our choice with booking her, and boy-oh-boy did she follow-through more than we could have imagined! Maurissa was also extremely patient with me - as a Type A Bride, I had sent her a lengthy list of desired photos prior to wedding day. I joked that it was a lot and she made me feel like it was totally normal. I know now that I never had to do this because her vision was magical - our favorite and featured photo is from our Sneak Peeks and was all her! What you want in a photographer is not only someone who will capture amazing photos, but also someone who will guide you through your wedding day. This is the person you will have the most interaction with all day long. Maurissa made the day fun, breezy, and even when we did have those anticipated mishaps occur (we knew there’d be at least one) she swooped in and literally saved the day. I am not being dramatic – my false eyelashes fell off not once but TWICE. The first time was right before my first look with my husband which caused a delay in our Timeline, and Maurissa flawlessly pivoted to make sure we stayed on track with time while they were re-glued onto my face. Then the second time the eyelashes came off, it was Maurissa herself who stepped up to the plate to make sure those babies were glued on right before I walked down the aisle. In this moment of panic for me, Maurissa had a confidence and calm demeanor that quickly put me at ease (and those eyelashes didn’t move again the whole night). On top of everything, our wedding was also on the far East side of Michigan, and Maurissa is based in Minnesota. We are extremely thankful that her services were offered at this distance! Our Sneak Peek photos are STUNNING and we are so excited to see the rest of them when they are ready!”

“We booked through Steve upfront and he was so terrific to work with on initial arrangements. Our DJ, Drew, was absolutely fantastic! He handled both our ceremony and reception music, and everything was seamless from start to finish. The ceremony music was perfect, the timing was exactly right, and he helped create the exact feeling we wanted for the day. He used my Spotify playlists as inspiration for our pre-ceremony and cocktail hour music, so those moments felt completely like us and set the perfect vibe from the beginning. For the reception, he did an amazing job reading the room, keeping the energy going, and making sure everything flowed without us ever having to worry about what was happening next. One of the things we appreciated most was how much he cared about making the day personal. He worked behind the scenes with our officiant and friends on a few surprises, and those little moments ended up meaning so much to us. We wanted our wedding to feel relaxed, personal, and like a true celebration with our favorite people, and Drew played such a big part in creating that atmosphere. “Our wedding was at Erickson Farmstead July 13th, 2024. We were very un organized. We forgot to submit our music, despite the texts, calls, and emails, we just were focused on other parts of the wedding. We didn't realize how much this DJ company actually does! The DJ showed up and he was driven to make sure things were perfect! As expected, the dance floor was packed, amazing song after amazing song. When I'd try and leave, he'd put on the next song and right back out there! It was sooooo good. I stumbled upon her work online and was immediately struck by how beautifully composed her photos were—full of texture, light, and balance that felt intentional and artful without ever feeling staged. From our very first interaction, she was reassuring, organized, and professional in a way that gave me so much confidence. Her packages were transparent, flexible, and thoughtfully designed—we especially loved that our engagement session was included (and turned out so beautifully, we used the photos everywhere from our wedding website to table decor). The engagement session was the first time we met her in person, and it confirmed everything I hoped: Keighla just gets it. She understood our vibe and the space we chose and made us feel instantly comfortable. I left that day already trusting her vision. On the wedding day, that trust only deepened. She was incredibly sensitive to some personal family dynamics and made sure my husband and I always felt prioritized and seen. Her timeline suggestions kept the day flowing naturally—and far better than the original version we’d created. Once the formal portraits were done, she practically disappeared into the background, capturing so many candid moments with grace and creativity. We had ping pong and pickleball at our reception (not exactly easy to photograph), and somehow she caught those fast-paced moments with such clarity and joy—they’re some of our favorite images. Receiving our gallery was like getting to live the day all over again. The turnaround was quick, and the photos moved us deeply. I’m usually reserved and self-conscious, but she made me look and feel beautiful. “We had a wonderful experience with Abella. They were communicative throughout the entire planning process and answered all of our questions. Everyone was so friendly during set up. We did have a mishap where the outdoor space didn’t have enough chairs and they got that fixed right away. They also dried all the water off the chairs for us (it rained before the ceremony). “Tracy & Kyle are fantastic artists and teammates! They made our wedding experience such a fun journey every step of the way and we were blown away by how fantastic all of our photos turned out in both our engagement and wedding day photos. We met with them in-person twice for consultations and felt so comfortable talking with them and sharing our experiences as fellow wedding-industry workers. The rate at which we received our photos after our engagement shoot and our wedding was perfect! They sent a few samples that showed the quality and attention to detail, and the remaining complete albums were sent within a week! So fast but so much attention to detail and great editing. We also loved their blog posts as a way to share photos with friends and family and we enjoyed browsing other couples' albums as well! As a same-sex mixed race couple, we really appreciated their wide portfolio of diverse couples of LGBTQIA and BIPOC clients.”

With multiple ceremony location options, including a romantic indoor fireplace option for the colder months (or as a backup in the summer in the event of rain) you can guarantee your wedding will be gorgeous! We especially love to photograph at The Refuge because we always know that even in the event of less-than-ideal weather the large overhang of the roof on both sides of the club house will still allow us to get outdoor photos without having to step into the elements. You can guarantee that the wedding coordinators at The Refuge care about your big day and will put their all into making sure that your wedding runs smoothly.
