What is a custom wedding website and what value does it have?

A wedding website can showcase all the info your guests need in one handy place: From travel and accommodation information, to your registry links, to fun facts about the bridal party, to the love story about how you and partner met.

As for how you’re going to get value out of it, think of it this way. It’s the chance to expand on what’s printed on your paper invitations without having to spend more money on printing it all up for wedding guests. Plus, it’s handy if you need to send any updates to guests. That way, they can just check online without you having to spend more money on printed-paper and postage.

As the big day gets closer, you can also update the website with the weekend’s schedule, directions, and things to do in the area so you don’t have to print these up for wedding guests coming in from out of town.

How much will you spend on your own wedding website?

Setting up your initial website on Zola.com is free. However, some other domains you might see online do charge you a fee to use them as a host for your wedding website. They may also charge you to create a custom domain. (i.e. bradandjenwedding.com) And finally, there may be a yearly fee to renew your website. Always read the fine print carefully before you hand over your credit card.

To get started on your Zola custom free wedding website, you’ll just need to enter your name and the name of your spouse-to-be, plus the date of your upcoming nuptials. Then you’ll enter your email address and create a password for the account (keep this handy) and choose a custom design template. Then you can customize it with all the wedding details you want like the schedule, travel accommodations, the wedding party, photos, and your registry. If you want a custom domain, you can add one to your Zola site starting at $14.95. You can also redirect a domain you purchased elsewhere to your Zola website. Find out more on how to do that here. (A custom domain for a website usually costs between $10 and $20 a year.)
