From Chocolate Martinis To A Wedding Planner: #ZolaCouple Kristey & Harish

When Harish took a med school study break to celebrate his birthday, fate had other plans. Little did he know he would be meeting his future wife, Kristey that night. They’ve been inseparable ever since. Counting down the days to their May wedding, this #ZolaCouple has some tips about decorating your newlywed home, personalizing your registry, and having some fun before the big day!

How did you meet? We met about a decade ago in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Harish’s birthday, and we hit it off immediately. Well, after I teased him for ordering a chocolate martini. Harish had just started his first year of medical school and took a break from his studies to have a drink in celebration of his birthday. Although he was initially planning to go home early that night to hit the books, we ended up meeting and talking until closing time. It was an instant connection and we’ve been inseparable since that day. I still feel very lucky that he took that study break!

How did you get engaged? We got engaged during a beachside proposal in Playa del Carmen, Mexico at sunset. Harish and our families were in on the surprise for months, and I was completely shocked (and swept away) when I saw a small cabana set up for two at our resorts beachfront as he popped the question.

Any tips for balancing wedding planning with your everyday busy life? We both agree that a wedding planner was the best investment that we made in all of our wedding expenditures. I’m in nursing school and Harish’s work keeps him busy, so the planner really helped us navigate through all of our planning.

How are you thinking about registering for your newlywed home? No thinking needed – the lady of the household makes all the executive decisions (says Harish). In all honesty, a lot of our household items are secondhand or from Ikea. So after taking a complete inventory of our home, it was easy to determine what we needed for our married life.

Any decorating tips? We like sticking to timeless and classic styles that can go with any theme or period in time. We also like to incorporate loud pops of color here and there to add character.

How do you two unwind on weekends? Whether it’s playing music, silly dancing, or taking our dog for walks along Chicago’s lakefront, we simply enjoy just being together during our weekends.

Favorite breakfast in bed recipe? French toast. The key is to toast the bread prior to dipping it into the egg mixture – Harish is the master!

Any last tips on creating your registry? We really enjoyed personalizing our registry with pictures of our Chicago home and us. This way there’s a story or item for each item and our loved ones can still have a connection to us while looking through our Zola registry.

What are you most excited for in newlywed life? We’re most excited to become one unit and have plenty of fun and silly adventures together as a family.
