#ZolaCouple Olu & Hana met working in a hospital 5 years ago, where he was the doctor consulting on a cardio case in the neuro/trauma ICU unit she was the nurse in. Ever since Olu asked for Hana’s number, and they had their first date at Chin Chin, the rest has been history. The two bonded over their shared work in the medical field and common interests, like cooking, entertaining, staying healthy, and exploring new places.
Since those early days, Hana has gone on to start her own event planning company, Venus Event Design, so we thought what better opportunity than this to get to know one of our favorite #ZolaCouples and get the scoop from her on wedding planning and entertaining tricks, too.
Let’s Talk Wedding Details:
How did you get engaged? After a long day at work in the hospital, I was wearing scrubs, had my hair pulled up in a topsy turvy bun and was driving home exhausted from work. Olu said he was tired too and would see me the following day. Little did I know, Olu was waiting inside my home already down on one knee with the ring out ready to propose. There were rose petals leading from the door to where he was and candles everywhere, not to mention our favorite middle eastern food and a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
What are you most excited for on your registry? We are fans of drinking good wine and that was one of the reasons we chose the wine country of Paso Robles as our destination wedding location. We are most excited for our wine dual zone 12 bottle wine chiller!
Any tips for balancing wedding planning with your everyday busy life? Take wedding planning in stages and use many check off lists! It also helps that I’m a wedding planner! Delegation is key! My fiancé has a list of items he is responsible for =).
Let’s Talk Lifestyle:
Who’s the cook between the two of you? I think it’s a tie between the two of us. We both really like to cook because it helps us relax and enjoy the time together in the kitchen. I’d have to admit that Olu‘s food may taste a little better than mine!
Favorite meal to cook for two? It would have to be our vegetarian 4 cheese lasagna cooked crispy on the top. It will have to wait for after the wedding though!
Go-to recipe for dinner parties or potlucks? We love making different salads for potlucks and dinner parties. We’ll incorporate seasonal fruit and vegetables like celery or pomegranate seeds to give a fresh take on an everyday meal. With some light olive oil, fresh squeezed lemon juice, sea salt or truffle salt and fresh ground pepper you will have an amazing and easy to make salad!
Would you rather be the host or the guest? Would rather be a host!
Tips on decorating when you have people over? Keep it simple and clean. I love to use food displays on wood plates and linen napkins to keep the theme comfortable but still stylish. Candles and fresh flowers are a must!
Favorite cocktail? Our favorite cocktail would have to be the burning mandarin. We first had it at Katsuya in Hollywood and have since learned to make it at home. It will be one of our specialty drinks at the wedding.
