The food you serve at your wedding doesn’t have to be the typical steak, chicken, or fish catering options. Mix up your wedding menu by offering unique eats. Here are some of our favorite ideas.
Local, Organic Eats
Ditch the stuffy catering and embrace this unpolished, natural look. Serve seasonal foods from local vendors for a delicious dinner menu. The farm to table trend is a great one – not only do the fresh ingredients taste better, but they are better for you. Laid Back Taco Truck
Easy to serve, easy to eat, and even thinking about it makes our mouths water. A great summertime idea is to serve this crowd favorite from a food truck. This is not exactly a novel concept in the world of wedding planning – food trucks have become increasingly trendy in recent years – but you can always get creative with the general concept. Matching Shots and Hors d’oeuvres
For the cocktail hour, pass around small appetizers with matching shots. You can get inventive and mix and match many different drinks and foods all in mini portions. Pair a mini fish taco next to a margarita shot. Serve mini bruschetta melts with a shot of Prosecco. Pass out mini hot dogs and hamburgers with shots of your favorite beer. For a non-alcoholic option, we love this recipe for Mini Grilled Cheese Appetizers served with a shot glass of tomato soup.
Intricate Dessert Stations
Give your guests options when it comes to dessert. Mix it up and avoid serving only the traditional wedding cake. Have bowls of your favorite candy and place those next to trays of bite size portions of your favorite desserts. Your guests will enjoy being able to mingle as they have their last course. We love the look of macaroons trays, mini cupcakes, cake pops, and small fruit pies to adorn this table.
Beer and Pizza
Wedding food doesn’t have to be fancy. Everyone loves a good pizza and beer so keep it simple and don’t be afraid to serve this on your big day. We just suggest that the quality be higher than your average weeknight delivery pizza. Get pizzas made with your favorite ingredients and include a local beer, wine, or champagne.
Breakfast for Dinner
If breakfast is your favorite meal, consider this unique wedding menu idea. At very least, have a full table with breakfast options. Serve chicken and waffles, eggs baked in bacon cups, an assortment of donuts, and your favorite pastries. Wine and Cheese Pairings
We are fans of cheese tables tables at weddings. Everyone’s favorite snack can be the perfect appetizer for all of your guests. If you’re looking for suggestions of types of cheese to try, we highly recommend including a type of brie, a blue cheese, a firm cheese such as asiago or cheddar, and a goat cheese. Make sure to arrange these for easy access so guests can taste many different types. Mix in various complementary snacks such as grapes, olives, nuts, figs, and jams. If you’re lost on where to start, do a little research online to pair all of this with the perfect wine.
