Where to Stay

We don’t doubt that you guys can crash anywhere, but when it comes to the bachelor party weekend, you wanna pick a place that’s got a little bit more character and suits your buddy’s personality and interests. If you’ll be spending time boozing it up at C’ville bars, then a downtown location is your best bet. If he’s more of an outdoorsy, nature-loving guy, then a lodge that’s on the outskirts of the city is likely the right choice. Whatever groom you’re planning for, we’ve narrowed down some Charlottesville accommodations that are the-best-of-the-best in each department.

Boar’s Head Resort

As the official hotel of The University of Virginia, you know this place has gotta be good. And it is—this resort has a sports club, a golf course, delicious food, and even a spa. If you’re looking for a place that’s a bit on the ritzy side and close to pretty much everything, Boar’s Head definitely the top-choice pick.

Stay Charlottesville Vacation Rentals

Not interested in spending the weekend in a hotel with countless other guests? Lucky for you, Stay Charlottesville has vacation rentals (from apartments to condos to full houses) all over, whether you wanna be in the heart of downtown or off in the countryside.

Omni Charlottesville Hotel

The Omni is located right on the Downtown Mall, so if you’ll be hitting up this historic pedestrian mall filled with great restaurants, shops, and music venues (and we think you should), you can’t go wrong with this luxury hotel.

Montfair Resort Farm

Just 30 minutes outside of the city, Montfair Resort Farm’s cabin-style lodging is great for a mountain getaway filled with hiking, canoeing, grilling out, and the great outdoors.

Graduate Charlottesville

If you’re looking for a place that’s centrally located and all-around cool (we’re talking game rooms, a rooftop bar, and excellent on-site eats), we recommend booking your stay at the Graduate C’Ville now. This academic-themed hotel is relatively new on the scene, but big on convenience when it comes to location, especially for folks getting into some shenanigans on the Corner.

Where to Eat

Now that we’ve got the places to stay figured out, let’s talk about a topic that we imagine is near and dear to your heart—where to eat. C’ville is undeniably a foodie town, so there are endless options for where to grab some mouth-watering grub. Since deciding where to head is the hard part, we did the dirty work for you. When you’re in town, make sure to check out as many of these (officially dude-approved) local favorites as you can.

Bodo’s Bagels

This dining institution is one of those places that’s at the top of everyone’s “must-visit” list, so you should definitely experience it for yourself. The local chain’s popularity is explained by their authentic (and delicious) New York “water” bagels, cheap prices, and efficient service.

Smoked Kitchen and Tap

Got BBQ on the brain? Who doesn’t? For some of the best smoked meats in town, head west to this food truck-turned-restaurant in Crozet and prepare to get stuffed on everything from pulled pork and chicken to brisket to ribs. Stellar sides like mac n cheese and collard greens will save you from a full-on meatfest.

The Whiskey Jar

This farm-to-table restaurant’s website describes their cuisine as “nothing fancy,” but dishes like Fried Chicken with Garlic Jalapeño Honey tell another story. They’ve also got a whiskey, bourbon, and scotch list as long as your arm. What more do we need to say?

Beer Run

With an extensive and ever-changing list of craft beer on tap and almost every bottled beer imaginable (for real), guys love Beer Run—and we can’t blame them. Plus, their lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch menus change monthly to focus on the best the area has to offer. (Hint: it’s usually the nachos.) What more could you ask for?

Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie

Any local will tell you that Dr. Ho’s is where it’s at for “alternative” pizza concoctions (and other delectables) that’ll knock your socks off. Although a bit of a drive down Route 29S, it’s worth the trek for pies like the Annie Oakley: spicy Buffalo chicken breast, pineapple, pickled jalapeno peppers, mozzarella, and cheddar.

Commonwealth Restaurant & Skybar

This place doesn’t just have gourmet, locally sourced food that’s packed with flavor, they’ve got a rooftop bar that becomes positively hopping come sundown. Come for the drinks and views of downtown, stay for the nightlife scene.

Citizen Burger Bar

The top spot to order a burger—made from uber-local ingredients, including grass-fed Timbercreek Farm beef—sip craft brews, and catch the game from their wall of TVs. Large booths accommodate crowds handily.

Miller’s is a super-chill spot that’s been around forever. It’s a great place to get some basic-but-tasty grub after a night out drinking (their kitchen is open until 2am). They also have billiards on the top floor, live music every night, and great people-watching from their outdoor patio.

Draft Taproom

Pretty much a beer lover’s paradise, Draft Taproom allows customers to pay for beers by the ounce through an innovative, self-serve pouring system that charges a pre-swiped credit card. Freedom to try a variety of (local, craft) beers without committing to a full pour? And they serve wings? Done and done.

Where to Play and What to Do

Now on to what you really wanna know—what to see, what to do, and where to party. There’s tons to do here in C’ville, so you’ll never run out options for fun, but we’ve picked out great some activities that should appeal to a variety of tastes. Check ’em out, and pick and choose which ideas you think the groom will enjoy most. Whatever your final itinerary, we guarantee it’s gonna be an amazing weekend.

Brewery Tours

There are so many great breweries in the Charlottesville area. In no particular order, the list of local breweries includes Blue Mountain Brewery, Three Notch’d Brewery, Champion Brewing Company, Starr Hill Brewery, Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company, Wild Wolf Brewing Company, Random Row Brewing Co., Hardywood, Pro Re Nata Farm Brewery, South Street Brewery…we could go on! Some are located in the city and others just outside, so wherever you’re staying, a chauffeured brewery tour is a fabulous idea. Check out Blue Ridge Beer Excursions, which offers special Bachelor Party packages at different price points.

If you don’t end up staying at Boar’s Head, but the groom-to-be loves golf, make sure to schedule a tee-time at their amazing golf course, Birdwood. It’s constantly rated as one, if not the best, in the area. Other local greens include Meadowcreek Golf Course in the center of town, and Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet. Does your crew prefer playing golf with Frisbees rather than clubs and balls? The Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club has got you covered with a list of local disc golf courses.

Walking Food Tour

Like we mentioned before, C’ville is packed corner-to-corner with great places to grab a bite. Don’t limit yourself to just a few—try a whole bunch at once by booking a walking food tour with Taste of Virginia Food Tours. Whether highlighting restaurants of a particular city region or covering a broad variety of local faves, these guides know where it’s at when it come to scouting out the best bites.

Skiing and Snowboarding

If your bachelor party is happening in the winter, rent a cabin at Wintergreen Resort and hit the slopes. The resort also features golf, tennis, a spa, and lots of other mountain-related activities like hiking and mountain biking. It’s basically outdoor sport heaven.

College-Level Partying

Hit up some of the most popular UVA bars and pretend that you’ve traveled back in time. The Biltmore Cville is a pseudo “beach bar” that offers laid-back, boozy fun (and packed crowds on Saturday nights). Play a game of cornhole, order some “thumbs ‘n toes” (a.k.a. boneless wings), and chill out on the rooftop bar. For more, mosey across the street to Coupe’s, where the late-night scene is rowdy and the tallboys are $4.

Guided Fly Fishing

Love to fish? Schedule a guided fly fishing tour through The Albemarle Angler. Even if you know nothing about fly fishing, these local pros have your back with informative classes and packages that’ll ensure you have a great time throwing around a lure in some waist-high waders.

Catch Some Live Music

Charlottesville is not only a beer town, a foodie town, and an outdoorsy town, but it’s also a music town. The hometown of The Dave Matthew Bands brings in performers as huge as The Rolling Stones, but talented local musicians can be found playing every night of the week. Check out the lineups during your bachelor weekend at downtown venues Spring Pavilion, The Jefferson, The Southern, and John Paul Jones Arena.

Cigar Smoking

Sit back and relax at C’Ville Smoke Shop, a laidback cigar bar and lounge on the Downtown Mall. They’ve got a vast selection of tobaccos, and the atmosphere is just right for some chill conversation and story-swapping before you head out for a night of partying at the downtown bars.

Charlottesville’s location at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains makes for some fabulous hiking trails within close distance. Whether your group is full of beginners or experts, you’re sure to find a route that will get your heart pumping and your camera phones clicking. One of our personal favorites? Old Rag, a 5.5-mile loop complete with a rock scramble finalé and an excellent payoff.

Now, there’s only one thing to do—have an awesome time kickin’ it in C’ville with your favorite bachelor! We wish you great vibes, great weather, and a plethora of Advil.
