Wedding guru and founder of Green Wedding Shoes Jen Campbell met her husband at work where they quickly became friends, and then more. The two started Green Wedding Shoes together when they noticed an opportunity in the wedding blog world for couples with a more alternative take on weddings. We were lucky enough to take a moment with Jen to chat about her experience and hear her insightful tips on creating a well-rounded registry. Take a look at our interview with the lovely Jen below and check out her top registry picks!
Zola: You’ve seen your fair share of weddings. What’s the one wedding tradition you hope sticks around?
Jen: I’m a big fan of doing your own thing, so I love when couples really make their day their own and don’t follow traditions.
Zola: What’s your favorite new trend?
Jen: Couples doing a First Look before the ceremony. It’s a seriously magical moment…Jason and I did a First Look, and it was one of my favorite parts of the day (along with walking down the aisle and our ceremony).
Zola: Which design elements from your wedding made their way into your home, if any?
Jen: Well, it’s been over six years since our wedding and our styles keep changing a bit. We did have string lights hanging at our outdoor reception, and we have those in our backyard, but that is probably about it!
Zola: What were the most memorable moments of your honeymoon? What’s at the top of your travel wish list now?
Jen: Our honeymoon was AMAZING! We spent three weeks in Europe traveling around Spain, France and Italy. I loved exploring new cities with no plans for the day and stumbling across cute cafes. One of my favorite memories was in the Italian villages of Cinque Terre. We took a boat to the neighboring town, bought a bottle of wine, sat on the rocks by the water, and watched the sunset drinking wine. It was perfect. My current travel wishlist includes Iceland!! We’ve been sharing some amazing elopements there and the landscape is unreal!
Zola: Do you remember your favorite registry item? If so, what was it?
Jen: We had two registries and most of our guests purchased from our honeymoon registry. We truly enjoyed that our friends and family helped with our dream honeymoon.
Zola: What would you register for now?
Jen: Since we work from home, a Nespresso coffee machine! Our current coffee maker just isn’t cutting it. I would also register for better stemware.
Zola: What do you wish you had known when you were registering? What’s your advice for anyone who’s registering now?
Jen: I love that with Zola you can register for both products and experiences. I think that is a great option for couples today. I would recommend sitting down together and deciding what is most important for the two of you. Is it help with a dream honeymoon? Do you love to cook and want to upgrade for some new tools? Maybe you love throwing parties, so you’ll want to register for some great barware. Talking and doing it TOGETHER is my best advice. This is an exciting part of the whole engagement process.
Zola: What’s your design advice for couples designing their first home (or their newlywed home)?
Jen: This can be tricky! You want to keep both your personalities but sometimes your styles might not seem to match. I suggest working on one room at a time and building your design style from there – also, perhaps starting with a bunch of new things that represent the two of you and your journey together.
