Disappointed
Working with SK Event Specialists was, without question, the most stressful and disappointing part of our wedding planning experience. What should have been a beneficial investment became a source of constant anxiety and frustration. I was brought to tears multiple times over the planning process, and my time, energy, and money was wasted. I genuinely feel that we paid for a service that we did not receive. I understand that negative reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, but our experience was validated after our wedding when other vendors told us they had a poor experience with the planning team and found themselves having to put in extra efforts outside of their own services to make up for the shortcomings and ensure our day went smoothly. For 7000 ( travel fees & lodging) we were promised proactive guidance, creative support for décor and stationery, and vendor coordination. Instead, much of the work fell entirely on us. The creative input that was clearly included in our contract, and we upgraded an additional 3000 for, never materialized. Stephany put off discussing vision and décor for months until I designed a color palette, tablescape, stationary & invites, and other elements myself, and when I sent to her seeking collaboration, she simply told me she loved everything. The heartbreaking part is when we first met Stephany we explained our budget and told her how much that additional 3000 would mean to us, as it meant eliminating another a videographer. She assured us it would be valuable given the logistical challenges of being abroad, which I agreed with, and we took a leap of faith to trust in her. Other red flags arose early on – including contract cost differences, no orientation to planning software, and lack of communication. On the day of the wedding, many issues arose that were preventable with proper preparation and oversight. One of the shuttles was delayed, and rather than asking the venue if she could use their phone/Wi-Fi to check on the driver, she suggested starting the ceremony – this showed us a lack of critical thinking under pressure. Personal items from tables, including handwritten notes for guests, were discarded at the end. Stephany blamed the venue staff but as the planner, it feels odd to us that she had no oversight as to what staff were directed to keep vs discard. Florals were left in a truck bed overnight in freezing temperatures, which damaged them. Our cards were removed from our card box without discussion which felt like a major overstep and something us and our families were shocked to find. Other planning failures included failing to coordinate décor in advance with the venue, causing logistical issues, and being unable to use close to 1000 worth of products. When there was a conflict in lodging check-in time and ceremony start time, she suggested we push our ceremony time back 1 hour rather than working with the venue to accommodate - the venue accommodated earlier check-in easily when I handled it directly. Despite her “connections,” we consistently found better vendor deals ourselves than what she suggested was the best rate we’d find – including on our hotel block, shuttles, and rehearsal dinner/party. Overall, the experience was emotionally exhausting, negligent, and far below what was promised or reasonable for a luxury planning package. Couples seeking a planner who is attentive, proactive, and genuinely invested in their clients’ vision should look elsewhere.
Shelby saved the day when my wedding planner quit
Our original wedding planner quit just five weeks before our wedding, and I was completely heartbroken and overwhelmed. Then Shelby came in and completely turned everything around. From our very first call, she was calm, confident, and so reassuring. She told me there was nothing she couldn’t help with, and she truly meant it. Every single thing I asked for, she stepped in to handle right away with so much care, professionalism, and kindness. Shelby went above and beyond in every possible way. She checked in with me almost daily, met with my mom countless times to organize all of our décor, and made sure every single detail was perfect. She brought so much peace, structure, and joy to what had been such a stressful situation. She’s one of the most efficient, organized, and professional people I’ve ever worked with, but she’s also incredibly warm and genuine. She truly cared about making sure our day was everything we dreamed of. On our wedding day, Shelby was absolutely amazing. She knew every answer, texted back instantly, and kept everything running perfectly. She helped bustle my dress multiple times, made sure I had everything I needed, and handled every vendor with ease. Every person who interacted with her said how incredible and helpful she was. Our wedding day was truly the best day of our lives, and Shelby played such a huge role in making that happen. She made sure everything looked beautiful, ran smoothly, and felt special. As someone who had a horrible experience with a previous planner, I can honestly say I now know what a truly exceptional wedding planner looks like after working with Shelby. She’s organized, professional, efficient, and so caring. After the wedding, my mom and I were actually sad to not be working with her anymore because she was that amazing. I would recommend her a million times over
Actually got to relax & enjoy my day thanks to SK
I came across Shelby from a mutual friend after panicking because I thought I could handle all that came from planning a wedding. Even as a type-A, super organized person, my 250 person wedding got away from me quickly. Thankfully Shelby stepped in and helped me right away. She was able to bring my vision to life way better than I could have even imagined. My favorite part was her suggestion of a cigar bar (a thoughtful nod to my Cuban heritage) that added a personal touch I didn't even think of. I'm not sure what part my guests loved more -- the cigar bar or the epic dessert bar (both suggestions under her direction!) I didn't have to stress or panic about anything going wrong on the day of, and of course they did, but Shelby & her team handled all of it flawlessly. I ACTUALLY got to relax and enjoy my day. I know I would not be able to say the same had I not hired Shelby. Honestly, my one regret was being stubborn and thinking I could do everything by myself from the beginning. I wish I would have had her do the full planning & design package as there are definitely some things I would have changed had I been under her direction from the get-go. A million thanks to SK Events!
The absolute best experience!
Where do I even start - I cannot imagine how my wedding would have gone without Shelby and the SK Events team. Shelby was so incredibly helpful with guiding me through the entire process. I cannot express the number of questions that I asked Shelby and what a relief it was that she always got back to me quickly with an answer. My wedding day was the best day ever and it was genuinely all thanks to Shelby. Shelby is so organized and detail oriented, she is always real and honest yet professional, and she is just a joy to work with. I looked forward to every call/meeting we had because she always made me feel so much better about everything. She truly went above and beyond and you can tell how much she cares. Her team was so great too - there was no task too big or small for them to step in on on wedding day. Seriously do yourself a favor and book SK Events, it was THE BEST decision I made!!!!
