About Emily Choy Photography

Emily Choy Photography

Photographer

Emily Choy is a destination wedding photographer creating artful, enduring photographs on digital and film. With an approach that blends thoughtful direction with an instinct for the unscripted, Emily photographs the full texture of a wedding day: the classic portraits, the fashion and design, the people you love, and the fleeting moments you never could have planned. Based in Hawaiʻi and photographing celebrations throughout California, New York, Europe, and worldwide.

I believe you can have the photographs that belong in a frame for the next fifty years and the ones nobody else would have thought to take. My approach moves naturally between classic portraiture, documentary moments, and more artful, unexpected imagery, without making your wedding feel like a photoshoot. I guide when it matters and step back when it doesn’t, so you can be fully present while I create a beautiful, honest record of everything that made the day yours.

Emily Choy Photography was the best decision we made for our wedding! From the moment we saw her portfolio, we were drawn to her editorial style — every image feels like a candid moment frozen in time, and looking back at our photos instantly transports us back to exactly how we felt that day. Emily was incredibly prepared on our wedding day. She had already scoped out our entire venue in advance, which meant she knew exactly where to take us for the most stunning shots — including a jaw-dropping golden hour sunset sequence we never expected and will treasure forever. Beyond her talent behind the camera, Emily was warm and gracious with all of our guests, putting everyone at ease and making the whole day feel relaxed rather than staged. If you're weighing where to splurge in your wedding budget, put your photographer at the top of the list — Emily is worth every penny, and these photos will be what you have long after the day is over. We couldn't have asked for a better experience, and we'd love to work with her again when we grow our family. Highly, highly recommend!

Emily was the first wedding vendor we chose, and she set an incredibly high bar for the rest of the planning process. From our very first conversation, she was incredibly responsive and detail-oriented, which made us both confident that she understood our vision and priorities for what we wanted to be captured on the wedding day. Her calming presence and organization was day of made group photos a breeze, which was especially appreciated with our large families. Our family members also commented on her patience and skill for guiding even the least camera-savvy or more elderly relatives into position, which was very appreciated by all! My husband and I aren't the most comfortable in front of a camera, but Emily made us feel completely at ease. She coached us through poses naturally, gave us gentle direction without ever making it feel stiff or staged, and helped us relax into moments that ended up looking and feeling completely authentic. Now, looking through our wedding album, every photo brings us right back to that day. Emily has such a beautiful eye for capturing not just moments, but the true essence and personalities of the people we love. The photos are absolutely stunning — full of emotion, life, and detail we didn't even realize she caught in the moment. A few of my husband and I's favorites were my grandmother beaming on the dance floor, his father with his hands above his head while he danced, and a candid film photo of our first look. We couldn't recommend Emily more highly, and we are so glad that she was there to capture the most important day of our lives.

I found Emily's photos on Instagram and thought, wow, these belong in Vogue... The pictures my fiancé and I received from our engagement shoot were editorial, elegant, and moody, but even more importantly, Emily was bright, bubbly, and made us feel super comfortable. Taking once-in-a-lifetime photos can be stressful, and there is the implicit pressure to "get it right" and "look good", but Emily reminded us that the process can also be fun and easy. We found it so nice to work with a photographer who could give us guidance on how to pose or move, without being overly prescriptive or demanding. We also loved that she worked with digital and film to give us a variety of "vibes" from a single shoot. I have been recommending Emily to all of my soon-to-be-wed friends!

Words cannot describe how grateful we were that we chose Emily to capture our wedding. Before I talk about how incredibly talented she is, I want to first talk about her grace, patience, and willingness to make our day about us while still making sure we got what we needed. She was honestly worth every single penny, and I can't emphasize that enough. A photographer is arguably one of the most important decisions you make for your wedding, and it was so refreshing knowing we hit the jackpot with Emily. Every time we go back into our album we find another gem that we love. I am not just writing this review to write it. My wife and I are forever grateful we chose Emily.

Alen, this honestly means more to me than I can put into words. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. Getting to be a small part of your and Paige's wedding weekend was such an honor, and I'll always have such fond memories of celebrating with you both in Tuscany. Reading that you still find new favorite moments every time you look through your gallery is exactly why I love what I do. Thank you again for trusting me with something so important and for your incredibly kind words. I truly hope these photographs continue to bring you both back to those memories for decades to come. Wishing you, Paige, and your growing family nothing but happiness. ❤️

TLDR: Emily is an amazing person who does amazing work. Booking Emily Choy was one of the best decisions we could've made for our wedding. She is a creative genius, and absolute angel of a human being, and we have the most beautiful photographs of our friends and family to keep for the rest of our lives thanks to her. If you've made it here, chances are you've already come across Emily's instagram, which should speak for itself. Her work is editorial, romantic, and evocative. She captures the spirit of an event and somehow she makes it look artful. We have photographs of our grandmas hugging, or friends trying to wave down their kids, and somehow Emily makes those images look like they belong in a magazine. She's so talented, and from the research we did before booking her, her skillset is incredibly rare! It's like her photographs are a time machine for us. As we look through them we feel the same joy, laughter, love, and dance floor energy that we felt on our wedding day all over again. Being able to relive our wedding day like this is priceless. We could write a book on how much we love the photos themselves, but we also want to make sure we touch on how wonderful Emily is as a person. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to pick a media team you like for a day as big as your wedding. Your photographer spends a tremendous amount of your day with you and it matters whether you enjoy being around them. Luckily for us, Emily is an incredibly easy person to get along with. She is kind, gentle, certain, and encouraging. She worked well with every other vendor she encountered on our wedding day, connected effortlessly with our family, and made us feel so comfortable with her. Not to mention, she was sweet and selfless enough to agree to photograph our wedding on her birthday. We basically took up her whole birthday weekend because she also photographed our welcome dinner, which took place on Friday night before the wedding. Emily didn't say a thing! It's not in her nature. She's there for her couples and makes no effort to detract from that. We love our photographs, loved working with Emily, and just had to sing her praises. We have nothing but the best things to say about her and her work. Emily, thank you for giving us memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives, and for making us feel beautiful on our wedding day. We adore you!

Oh my gosh. 🥹 Thank you so so much for taking the time to write this. I honestly feel so lucky that our paths crossed and that I got to be the one to document such an important weekend for you two. Reading that the photos bring you right back to how the day felt is everything I could ever hope for. And your words about me as a person mean just as much. That means the world to me. I absolutely adored you two from the moment we met, and your wedding will always be one of my favorites. Thank you for trusting me, for being so wonderful to work with, and for writing something so incredibly thoughtful. It genuinely made my day. Sending you both the biggest hug. ❤️

I’m based in Hawaiʻi and photograph weddings throughout the islands and worldwide. I regularly travel to California, New York, Europe, and beyond, and love working with couples wherever their celebration takes them.
The average is about 65 per hour booked.
I specialize in weddings and wedding-related celebrations, including welcome parties, rehearsal dinners, engagements, and multi-day events. I also photograph a limited number of family and portrait sessions each year, primarily for past and current clients.
No, I don’t deliver RAW or unedited images. Every final image is carefully selected and edited to reflect my signature style and ensure a cohesive, finished gallery.
Weather is part of the story, and some of my favorite photographs have come from less-than-perfect conditions. If the weather is unsafe or truly unworkable for a portrait session, we’ll work together to adjust the timing, location, or reschedule when possible. For weddings, I’m comfortable adapting quickly and creating beautiful photographs in whatever the day brings.
