I am a Connecticut-based wedding and portrait photographer obsessed with candid moments, real emotion, and the connections between human beings. I strive to capture life as we actually live it: full of beauty and roughness, joy and struggle, extravagance and simplicity. When I photograph you, I’m not thinking about getting likes on social media. I’m thinking about what will make your heart grow three times its size. I’m thinking about what will make you ugly-cry, looking back. I’m thinking about you seeing how awesome and truly loved you are.

I’m queer; my partner is a trans man. We’ve been together since before he transitioned. He and I haven’t been able to take for granted that just any photographer would see and represent us accurately. As such, I focus on making ALL of my clients feel empowered and seen--and on making sure all kinds of people know they will be safe and honored in my presence. Photography is my soul work. I’m not here for the transaction. I’m here to help you see yourself as an integral part of the tangled, messy, wonderful whole of humanity. I’m here to document your joy, your emotions, and your love.

    Simply amazing!

    We absolutely loved working with Cate! We scheduled an engagement shoot so we were able to meet and get to know each other about a year before our wedding and got the most beautiful photos, we just knew we made the right choice. We received a “sneak peek” with over soo many photos a week after our wedding and we are blown away, I can’t believe we are still going to receive more. Cate captured our joy and love so spectacularly and we have seen some amazing, touching candids of us and our guests, and some incredibly fun dance floor shots already. She is very sweet, great at giving direction, easy to communicate with, and really hypes you up when she’s taking your photos! 10/10 would book again. She rules!

    Dream photographer

    Our dream photographers! We were so excited to work with Cate and her assistant Kieran. We had an absolute blast taking pictures on our wedding day! They made the process feel so natural and easy—all we had to do was show up and be in love and Cate took care of the rest. They were both especially fantastic at always being in the right place at the right time to capture every planned and impromptu moment. They didn’t miss a single part of the day. And all of the photos are STUNNING. We were blessed with a beautiful fall day and Cate and Kieran knew exactly how to use that to make the pictures even more spectacular. We cannot overstate how magical working with Cate was and highly recommend using her for your any of your photography needs.     Cate Barry - Wedding Photography

    Cate is simply the best, outside of just being a wonderful human, she is an extremely talented and experienced photographer. She was exactly what we needed as a wedding photographer, she captured every bit of emotion and happiness on our wedding day. She was our biggest champion day of, making the entire process stress free. She is very experienced in wedding photography and just does so much in the background to take care of every detail of the day. Her photographs are AMAZING, she somehow manages to be everywhere at once, and all her shots are just raw moments, nothing feels posed or staged and as a result you are left with beautiful photos that just showcase every emotion of the day. Honestly, I cannot recommend Cate enough, she is one of the best in the industry.

    Exceptional Photographer! Highly Recommend!

    Cate is exceptional! From our first meeting and our engagement photoshoot to the big day, Cate has been an absolute joy to work with. Her professionalism is superb including listening to what you are looking for from your photos and delivering in a timely manner. But more than that, Cate is also an awesome human to have by your side during the wedding planning journey. As two people who are a little shy in front of a camera, Cate made us feel comfortable and our best at both photoshoots. She guided us in a way that didn’t feel like pressure or judgement and we really appreciated that energy. Cate truly listened to us throughout the process and delivered exactly what we wanted from both our engagement and wedding galleries. Specifically, we picked Cate as our photographer because she highly values authenticity and aims to capture a couple’s realness (which is hard to find these days with pressure from the wedding industry).     A great decision

    My husband I decided to elope, planning the whole event in a week. It was important to me to get great photos to share with the friends and family who wouldn't be with us on the day. As soon as I saw Cate Barry's portfolio, especially with the candid photos, I knew that she was the right person to capture the true spirit of the day. Luckily, she was able to squeeze us into her calendar, and our preliminary meetings with Cate were fantastic: she made sure she understood our priorities—super open to who we are and what we care about—and she acted as friend, therapist, and wedding expert in a very frantic time. She even recommended a fantastic officiant who was exactly our speed. On the day, the three of us met up for some outdoor photos before the ceremony, and while I was afraid my husband and I might be awkward or stiff, Cate put us at ease immediately, and we were smiling with natural poses in no time. Then at the venue, Cate both contributed to and captured the joyful, relaxed atmosphere of the day.  We got our photos in record time, and even when we first flicked through the images on my phone over pizza, we could immediately tell Cate had memorialized the magic of the day, from happy tears to spontaneous jumping up and down with our witnesses. It means a lot to have wonderful pictures to share with our loved ones, and we would work with Cate again in a heartbeat.

Typically, couples book me about 12-15 months before their wedding date. I encourage you to reach out as soon as possible about my availability, even if you’re planning on a shorter time frame.
Depending on the size of your wedding / the number of guests you're inviting, I will have a second photographer with me. This is included in my pricing for weddings with over 50 guests. However, this is always a conversation we can have, and customizing is always an option!
I guarantee to have a sneak peek to you within a week of your wedding, and your full gallery will be completed within two months of your wedding.
You can expect about 100 images per hour of photographing. (Typically, I deliver more than this because I can't help myself.)
I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
In the very rare event that I’m unable to photograph your wedding, I’ll make sure you’re covered by one of my colleagues or my contracted assistant. It will never be your job to find a replacement photographer; that is my responsibility. I have a broad network of amazing photographers who all pitch in to help each other in times of emergency.
