I'm Matthew, a wedding photographer based in Garrison, NY. With a decade as a wedding photographer and 15 years as an educator, I bring two things to every wedding: the ability to document moments as they happen, and the calm to handle whatever the day brings. I prepare carefully, communicate beforehand, and stay present when it's busy. My style is mostly documentary. I blend into the wedding, observing and documenting moments as they happen rather than staging them. Feedback I hear most often is that couples weren't aware of me, but that I got everything. I work with all couples and celebrate every kind of love, and every kind of marriage.
I know the Hudson Valley well. I've photographed at venues from The Garrison to The Ruins at Sassafras, and I bring first-hand knowledge of each venue to the planning process. I work across the Hudson Valley, Westchester, and NYC. Every collection is customized around your vision for your day. I bring a second photographer to every full-day wedding. Couples describe their galleries as emotional, full of energy, and a true reflection of how their day actually felt. Families feel at ease in front of the camera. That experience, from your personalized timeline before the day to the final gallery delivery, is what I work toward with every couple.

We had the pleasure of having Matthew be our wedding photographer on 6/20/2026. Leading up to the day, he was nothing but helpful and informative in providing us with information for how the day would go and how he would be a fly on the wall. He had previously worked at our venue which meant he was able to give us plenty of guidance on where the best photos would be for not only first look but also family photos. On the physical day, Matthew not only helped with last minute set up at the venue but was absolutely incredible with all our family. He made taking all the photos so easy and organized that it made the day run so smooth. We had let him know how we wanted to incorporate as much of the scenery around the venue into our photos and he absolutely crushed it. Every single photo from the beginning to end of the evening is incredible. He did an amazing job capturing all our friends and family throughout the event and we have so many candids that we’ve gotten to share with everyone. His talent is also unmatched - the lighting, the sunset photos, the aesthetics, all 10/10. Besides being an incredible photographer, he is also an incredible person. All our family and friends had nothing but the best things to say about him and those praises continue to come as people see the photos he took the day of. We couldn’t recommend Matthew more - absolutely incredible and we’re so thankful.

Creative, Kind, and Prepared
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, stop searching and book Matthew Rigby. From our very first meeting, Matt took the time to get to know us as a couple. He wanted to understand our personalities and the kind of photos we actually wanted instead of giving us the same staged, cookie-cutter wedding pictures you see everywhere. We knew right away that he was the perfect fit. At our engagement session, we had a fun idea since we were getting married on 7/11—we asked if we could take photos inside a 7-Eleven, and without hesitation, Matt was all in. That perfectly sums him up. He’s creative, flexible, and always willing to embrace your vision, no matter how unique it is. To make things even better, our engagement shoot ended up taking place in the rain. Instead of calling it off or letting the weather get in the way, Matt embraced it and created some incredible photos that we absolutely love. He truly knows how to make the best of any situation. On our wedding day, everything ran so smoothly. We hired two photographers since the bridal party and groomsmen were getting ready in different locations, and thank you Matthew for bringing along Kevin. He was an amazing addition to the team. The groomsmen absolutely loved him. He brought such a relaxed, fun energy that made a room full of guys—who definitely weren’t excited about taking pictures—actually enjoy the experience. He encouraged their goofy ideas while still making sure they got great shots, and it made a huge difference. Another thing that really stood out was how great Matt is with kids. If you have children in your wedding party, you’ll appreciate his patience and ability to keep them engaged. As a teacher himself, he’s organized, professional, and incredibly calm under pressure. One thing we specifically told Matt was that we didn’t want to spend our entire cocktail hour taking photos. He completely respected that. He kept everything organized and efficient, and because of that, we actually got to enjoy our cocktail hour with our guests—a memory we’ll always be grateful for. The finished photos are absolutely stunning. His editing style is timeless and natural, and every image feels authentic to us. At the end of the day, beautiful photos are the goal, but the experience matters just as much. You spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than almost anyone else. If you don’t feel comfortable with them, it shows in the pictures. Matt is easygoing, personable, and someone who genuinely makes you feel relaxed and like yourself. That’s exactly why our photos turned out so naturally. We can’t recommend Matthew Rigby Photography highly enough. If you want photographers who are talented, creative, organized, and genuinely fun to spend your wedding day with, they’re the team to book.

An adventurous surprise proposal!
I cannot recommend Matthew enough! For my surprise proposal to my girlfriend, he literally went above and beyond. On our video call consultation, I had suggested a viewpoint on Bull Hill in Cold Spring but we couldn't find a lot of photos of the exact spot—so Matthew actually hiked all the way up there a few days early just to scope it out and make sure it was perfect! On the day of the proposal, he arrived early to ensure everything went flawlessly and blended into the landscape beautifully. My now-fiance remembers noticing him but thought he was just another hiker enjoying the views. The natural photos he captured of us at the viewpoint and in the surrounding area are stunning. Matthew's dedication and meticulous preparation made us feel totally at ease. If you want a photographer who is adventurous, professional, queer-friendly, and willing to put in extra mileage (and elevation!) to get the perfect shot, Matthew is your guy!

We are so grateful we booked Matthew for our wedding photography. His thoughtfulness, professionalism, and organization were exactly what we were looking for. His eye for scenery and lighting also really set him apart. Throughout our wedding journey, his thoughtful planning helped set a timeline for our big day.
