    Ghosted after taking our deposit

Heads up for anyone considering DJ Warm Advice (Kendall Burke) for their wedding — I wanted to share our experience in case it helps someone else. We signed a contract in April for our November wedding and paid a 1,000 deposit. After that, she ghosted us, with no response to emails, texts, or calls for weeks. We sent a cancellation request in May with no response, and contractually we are supposed to get half of our deposit back if we cancel more than 90 days prior to the event date, but we still have not heard anything back. We wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it's possible something happened on her end that we're not aware of, so we'd welcome hearing from her to resolve this, and I can update this post. Just overall, if you're vetting DJs right now, I'd factor this in and make sure you're clear and trust their communication before you sign anything...

    Wonderful DJ- great music

I recently attended a mass queer wedding organized and DJ'ed by Warm Advice and it was a wonderful experience!! Kendall had great song mixes, took a lot of guest requests, and kept the energy on the dance floor going the whole evening! She also did a great job organizing the event- choosing a variety of local, queer-owned vendors, setting up decor, and running the event programming.

    Unwanted Distraction

I recently attended a queer wedding in Chicago that hired DJ Warm Advice to play music and run karaoke, and could not believe how much of an unwanted distraction they were to the fun of the evening. They were neither friend nor family to the wedding party, yet took many opportunities to get on the microphone and talk about themselves. At one point they even brought up Trump! During the dancing portion of the night they first played the wrong first dance song, then proceeded to play what they wanted to hear while ignoring guests’ song requests. The dance party was cut short because they ignored several requests to change the music. Throughout the night they got on the microphone to solicit tips from guests, which I found incredibly tacky and disruptive. Lucky for us we were guaranteed to have fun no matter what with such a wonderful crew, but had it been a less tight-knit crowd the mood would have turned sour.

    The perfect person!

Warm Advice took a playlist I sent over to them and turned it into the perfect night. They were there with plenty of time to get set up and make sure everything went smoothly. They had the wedding party, the guests, and even my grandparents on the dance floor. Also, microphone presence was exceptional and every announcement was excused perfectly. I can’t recommend someone more! I am so happy they were a part of our day!

My advice: hire Warm Advice for your wedding!

Is it weird to want to be best friends with your wedding DJ?

That's entirely up to you! That said, if you *are* open to requests, I'll make sure not to play anything from your Do Not Play list :)
