About Rhythm Society Orchestra

Gary Herzenstiel

Director

Rhythm Society Orchestra is a 16-piece big band specializing in vintage swing music of the '30s and '40s with a good helping of later Sinatra and friends, authentically re-created. It's music as people remember it and want to hear and see it performed. Classy, professional, experienced and turn-key! We're as sharp looking as we sound, too. Booked by the best hotels, country clubs, agencies, wedding planners, municipalities, historic locations, corporations, philanthropic and wedding receptions (the latter are a specialty!) Add our jazz combo for cocktails, solo pianist for dinner, etc. Top shelf, high-energy entertainment.

We do the swing era right. No modern tunes or garbage that a big band wouldn't have played back in the day, nor do we rehearse in public or play in bars for peanuts, which degrades the musicians. We are sharp, well-rehearsed and as authentic as they come. History comes alive with our music re-creations and authentic presentations. We play music people want to hear, not music-for-musicians.

Unique musical experience for your event!

A Big Band that plays and looks authentic: Personable, well dressed and organized. This band comes to play and entertain your audience. A different and memorable performance: every. single. time.

We look and sound authentic, re-creating the performances and tunes of the big band era and nothing else. Elvis wouldn't perform "In the mood" and a big band shouldn't ever perform "Proud Mary" or "Hound dog", unless you want to be disappointed. We never disappoint!
We bring 500+ tunes to every event so that we can do special requests. Many times I can find arrangements for other tunes, with ample notice, but they would have to be tunes from the big band era.
Both! Hire the big band along with our small jazz/standard combo! It saves you and us money since our musicians are there anyway. Our combo typically does not perform without the big band playing later in the evening.
It wouldn't sound right so, generally, no.
Big band swing of the '30s, '40s and into the '50s. We cover and re-create the big names, both instrumental and male vocal. We can also do some Latin and ballroom, but only what a big band would have done back in the era.
It takes 2 hours to set up and we complete our set up before the first guest sets foot in the performance room.
We provide recorded music during dinner, coctails and whenever the band isn't performing, as needed. Need music after our performance? No problem. Supply the music or tell us what you want to hear ahead of time and we make it happen. We also make your announcements and keep the evening flowing on schedule.
