James Ton Photography

5.0

Washington, DC
  • Photographer
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $2,400

"You just have to live, and life will give you pictures." The first time I saw the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, I knew photography was my calling. His philosophy shapes the way I approach weddings—I want you to be fully present, soaking in every moment of your day. When you're enjoying yourselves, celebrating your love, and having the best day of your lives, the most beautiful and authentic photographs naturally follow.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in the DC area, stop and boom James immediately! We really liked James from the first time we saw his portfolio online, and felt very confident after our first call with him that we had found the photographer we wanted to work with. He was really thoughtful in sending us sample galleries from weddings he had done that were in similar venues to ours. We could not have made a better choice! He was good at communicating and working out details prior to the wedding, even scouting out potential locations in case of rain in the forecast. On the day itself he was fantastic and provided just the right amount of direction to get good shots while putting everyone at ease. He also captured all the special candid moments and I still don’t know how he managed to get so many different angles and shots during the ceremony. We also absolutely loved the video slideshow he did with our speeches and the photos. We’ll always treasure the stunning photos we have from our wedding and couldn’t recommend James more highly!

Kate Grace Photography

5.0

Washington, DC
  • Photographer
  • Fine art style
  • Starts at $6,500

Hi! I'm Katie, an East Coast & Destination Wedding Photographer, based in Washington D.C. After taking a high-school photography class–it quickly became clear that I loved the art of photography. Soon after graduating, I was offered an internship position near Chicago that allowed me to continue to dive into the world of studio lighting, image editing, and commercial photography; continuing to hone on the technical skills that often get left behind when you have the digital screen to instantly see your work. A few years later, I photographed a friends wedding and it became crystal clear that this was exactly what I wanted to pursue.

Oh my goodness! Kate Grace is the best wedding photographer in the game. I am SO glad we snagged her to photograph our wedding. Throughout the entire process from booking to engagement shoot to COVID-19 wedding planning - Kate was there for us each step of the way. On my wedding day I was barely stressed because I knew Kate would capture every moment perfectly. She took every shot (and then some!!!) on my shot list and delivered THE MOST BEAUTIFUL gallery. Kate even worked with our videographer and sent them pictures for our wedding video. Kate is INCREDIBLE. Hire her. You WILL NOT regret it. As long as we are in the DC area, Kate is our photographer.

Her communication is spectacular and timely and the quality of the photos is an 11 out of 10. Not to mention that our wedding was less than a week ago and we already have an album of GORGEOUS teaser photos! We can't wait to see the rest from the big day because we know that she and her second shooter captured so many special moments during the event. We picked Clyde’s because the location was close to my church, where we did the ceremony, and because it was one of the few venues in that radius that fit our budget. I picked Clyde’s for practical reasons and looking back I couldn’t have made a better choice. I always knew I wanted my wedding reception to be fun and relaxed and have plenty of good food and drinks for my guests. Clyde’s so fit the bill. First, the food is simple yet delicious. We already knew that from dining there, and the tasting confirmed it. We were able to make menu choices to please everyone. Second, our room was beautiful and uniquely decorated and that makes a fun atmosphere. It was large enough to fit all our guests and have room to dance (we had about 50 people, but could have fit more in the room.) finally, the service was exceptional - all our guests commented on how great the servers and bartenders were at their jobs. We felt so welcome. The event staff went above and beyond to work with me to decorate and set tables to my specifications. If you are considering Clyde’s, I highly recommend them. DC wedding venues are expensive and Clyde’s was one of the few places we could afford, but even if our budget was higher, I couldn’t imagine a better experience.

January Skies

I have the most amazing memories from childhood of being cuddled up with my Granny going through old pictures. The joy and nostalgia that came from those old film photos where everything. My favorite part was always looking up at my Granny as she got lost in each individual memory, seeing her face shape shift in moments of grief over the past and then instant joy because she knew that she could relive that moment as long as she had those photos. Every time I pick up my camera I strive to create tangible moments that will last a lifetime.

We had the absolute best time with Sy'Vone for both our engagement and wedding photos. She is kind, patient, and has an incredible eye. She understood what I wanted for my wedding photos and even created a vision board so I could verify it (the vision board is also in and of itself just beautiful). Not only did we love her, our guests loved her. Everyone came up to me and said how wonderful she was. I can't thank you enough!

Rudney Novaes Photography

  • Classic style

Hi there, I'm Rudney Novaes — And I’ve been intrigued by photography since I was a boy. In youth I discovered a fascination with film when my Father left behind a vintage camera. I was amazed by the mechanics of the time-worn device, in awe of its capability to freeze moments in time. Today, I’m an editorial and wedding photographer capturing stories filled with feeling, and my love of light and film continues to shape my craft. I’m passionate about sharing the knowledge I’ve chased since childhood with aspiring creatives and seasoned professionals alike, and I believe wholeheartedly that there’s always more to learn from one another.

I knew I wanted Rudney to be my wedding photographer before I even had a date or venue. It was love at first sight with his work, and he never disappointed. Rudney was so easy to work with, he is flexible, dedicated, open to your ideas while also giving suggestions to make sure everything turns out perfect. The day of the wedding was effortless, I did not have to worry about what my photographer was doing because I trusted and was confident in Rudney's ability to deliver what I envisioned. His team of professionals were also the best! I will forever treasure my wedding photos, they came out so beautiful and perfectly captured my amazing day. Rudney's work is exquisite, he is truly a master in his art!

Lucy Black Entertainment is a women and musician-owned, bespoke luxury events company based in the Washington, D.C. area, and available worldwide. With over 20 years of experience, we specialize in live and virtual entertainment for weddings, social, and corporate events. We own and manage several in-house acts, including Lucy Black Luxe, Lucy Black House Band, Lucy Black Electric, DC String Machine, and a variety of instrumental combos. With a full in-house production team, we can cover all sound, lighting, and video needs. In addition, we have a network of partner bands, DJs, dancers, acrobats, and much more!

We had a wonderful time working with Lucy Black Entertainment. They were very accommodating as we kept making changes to our music preferences. We worked with DJ Tezrah, who kept everyone on the dance floor all night long. So many people complicated us on having amazing music - and it was all Tezrah! We really appreciated how easy it was to communicate with the staff. They also had a bunch of suggestions when we were struggling to figure out how to move forward with various music ideas, and that really helped us flesh out our own vision. I would definitely recommend working with them!

I'm Kristie and I'm the owner of Kristie Leigh Photography, LLC. I specialize in Wedding, Engagement, Maternity and Marketing Sessions while also spending time getting to know you by the smile on your face, and sparkle in your eyes, creating digital footprints that will last forever & ever! Photography was invited into my life simply because reading a book under a tree shade, or sitting cozy by the fire with my Great Danes, always ended in a great photo that truly spoke to me! As a Christ Follower, I am blessed to share the gifts God has given me and use them to bless others!

I always knew that I wanted to work with Kristie when it came time for my wedding day because of a previous photo shoot I had with her for marketing purposes. Kristie was fun, personal, professional and most importantly she was an expert when it came to instructing my husband and I on how to pose for the camera to look our best. We could not have dreamed of a better photographer. She even referred us to an amazing videographer. We are so grateful to have had Kristie as one of our wedding vendors and highly recommend her to anyone getting married in the DC, MD or VA area.

We are known for crafting beautiful, classy, timeless, and emotional wedding films in addition to being professional and simply providing excellent service. Paul arrived on wedding day this past November ready to go. Camera in hand when he walked in the room, he captured our most special and fun moments of the day. He was there exactly when he needed to be, and immediately put us all at ease. It’s not often that a videographer feels like one of us right off the bat without having met. He was efficient, to the point, and intentional in everything he captured. He was respectful, kind, and the work speaks for itself. The videos are spectacular, unique to us, and outrageously creative. Our guests and our family are still all talking about how wonderful of a person Paul was, and how amazing the experience of shooting with him was. The National Press Club

5.0

Washington, DC
  • Venue
  • Up to 352 guests
  • All-inclusive
  • Indoor
  • Starts at $10,000

The most romantic day of your life should be historic! That's why the National Press Club in downtown DC is the perfect venue to celebrate your wedding and ensure your big day will go down in history! It's not just the place where news happens, it's where memories are made. Overlooking the White House at the top of the National Press Building, the Club has a wonderful atmosphere, terrific food, and excellent service.

Why you'll love this venue

  • All-inclusive venue packages
  • Multiple event spaces
  • Offers full-service amenities

Venue considerations

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Best for events with big guest lists
  • Does not allow pets
What initially made us go with the National Press Club was that much of the most complicated aspects of putting a wedding together are available in-house. You deal with one person who asks the right questions up front, assesses your wants and needs and manages every detail from that point forward. If you’re planning your first wedding (like we were), it’s likely you’re already getting overwhelmed by the realization of how many critical details go into a successful wedding. However, at The Press Club: Reception Catering: Check. Cocktail hour catering: Check. Bar: Check. Tables / chairs / linens / etc. Check. Dance floor: Check. Audio Visual technician: Check. Alphabetizing your table place cards. Check. And so on and so on. All we needed to do was hire a deejay, a wedding photographer, a bakery for the wedding cake and the florist. And on the day of the wedding, the NPC staff took care of getting our vendors in and out and dealing with unexpected logistical issues, which there always are with any large events. The pricing was transparent and the estimate on the banquet order was what we paid. Ok, those are the practical reasons the NPC was a great choice. Now for the aesthetics. The Press Club is quintessential Washington, DC classy. They have multiple rooms that one can rent to customize your wedding experience. Our ceremony took place in the Holeman Lounge which flowed into the First Amendment Lounge, where we had our cocktail hour. The First Amendment Lounge offers stunning views of DC, including the Washington Monument and the east wing of the White House. Our reception took place in The Ballroom. We also had a room for our vendors to stage and a private space for us and the wedding party, which was such a nice touch. Many of our wedding guests were in awe of the NPC. It feels very exclusive and so many of them took the opportunity to take pictures of themselves at the Press Club podium and selfies with the luminaries and historical figures adorning the walls throughout. The service: This is where the National Press Club really stands out. We were blessed to have Renee managing the process from beginning to end. We can’t stress enough the amazing service she provided. She went through every detail with us. Twice just to make sure she captured everything correctly down to how we wanted the napkins folded. Two months before the wedding she put together the most beautiful food tasting experience for us. Before locking in our menu, we tasted a number of appetizers that would be served during cocktail hour as well as the dinner options and desserts. We also tasted a variety of wines. All in all, it was a preview of how fantastic our reception would be, with both the food and the service. The day of, Renee and David took fabulous care of us and our guests. Both really went above and beyond of what we could possibly imagine. During our rehearsal the day before, Renee noticed the wedding party was struggling a little to get the timing of the processional right and she jumped in and helped with our timing and ended up cueing us as to when to start walking the actual day. All of this combined to make our wedding a fabulous experience with zero stress. As positive as this review is, it falls hopelessly short of conveying just how wonderful our experience was.

Photography, for me, is all about people. And I LOVE people. As a documentary photographer, I pay attention to the connections among people at events and make images that show the emotion, the connection, and the meaning of the moments I capture. But more than just loving photography, I've photographed hundreds of weddings over the years I've been in business and am constantly told by my clients how helpful, knowledgeable, and calming I am in moments that are new to my clients. And with a Masters in Photojournalism, I'm not new to this.

Chris is the consummate professional, he is so very talented on multiple levels, you absolutely can't go wrong, working with him. Call him today!

Jill Parsons was amazing to work with for our wedding! From our very first call, they were friendly, fun, and flexible in accommodating all of our music requests. On the day of, the was incredibly responsive, playing all of our favorite songs and taking requests from our guests throughout the night. You could tell she has a true love of music and really wanted to make our special day perfect. The kids had such a blast dancing that they begged Jill to come back and DJ another dance party! We couldn't have asked for a better DJ to get our guests on the dance floor and keep the energy high all night long. Highly recommend Jill Parsons for any wedding or event!

Free Spirit

  • Band/dj

Free Spirit is the number one choice in the Washington DC and Baltimore areas for dance music, with a wide variety of tunes designed to keep your feet moving. The key to a memorable wedding reception, corporate party, fundraiser, or political event, is a band that brings a high-energy, customized set list, with great visual effects and crowd interaction.

WOW - booking Free Spirit was the best decision we made for our wedding day, besides getting married :). Their talent was unparalleled, and we had countless guests comment that this was the best wedding band that they had ever seen and and asking "who is this band and how did you find them?!" One friend even asked if we thought that they would fly out to Spain for her upcoming wedding! Their set list was a mix of great oldies (still smiling when we watch back videos of their cover of "Best of My Love" with all of our guests on the dance floor - truly phenomenal) and 2000s/pop songs. People literally didn't budge off of the dance floor for 3 hours. All this, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable, especially for bringing all of the vocalists, horn players, etc that they did. We cannot recommend Free Spirit highly enough; you will NOT be disappointed.
