Sugarneck is rumored to have gotten its name by the bootleggers traveling along the Cape Fear River as a code word for the place where they would pick up their moonshine. Sugarneck reaches back long before smartphones and social media, back to a time when the only way to send a message was by writing a letter and sending it in the mail. One of the earliest U.S. Post Offices in North Carolina still stands strong today. It was a community where people gathered, shared news and good times. Built in 1874, the renovated original Cabin structure serves as a unique visual reminder of those simpler times. The Cabin and the Post Office are on the National Register of Historic Places. The vast scenic views of the North Carolina countryside along with the grandness of our 150 year old Oak trees do not go unnoticed, and at night, the stars light up the sky. The Hive is a beautiful event center located in Staley, NC. We are situated on 200 acres of rolling farm land in Randolph county NC. Our facility began life as the clubhouse for Ferguson Farms Golf Course. When the golf course closed in 2012, it sat abandoned until our family came across the land. We came across this gem while we were searching for a larger property to expand our farm. It had been neglected for so many years, but we immediately saw great potential in its natural beauty, barns, and clubhouse. The streams, ponds, and woodlands teamed with wildlife and we just knew this farm had to been revived into something new, a place where joy, laughter and unity would be experienced.
