About this venue

Sugarneck is rumored to have gotten its name by the bootleggers traveling along the Cape Fear River as a code word for the place where they would pick up their moonshine. Sugarneck reaches back long before smartphones and social media, back to a time when the only way to send a message was by writing a letter and sending it in the mail. One of the earliest U.S. Post Offices in North Carolina still stands strong today. It was a community where people gathered, shared news and good times. Built in 1874, the renovated original Cabin structure serves as a unique visual reminder of those simpler times. The Cabin and the Post Office are on the National Register of Historic Places. The vast scenic views of the North Carolina countryside along with the grandness of our 150 year old Oak trees do not go unnoticed, and at night, the stars light up the sky. Today, there is an unexpected immersive experience that brings history, nature and modern elegance together in total privacy.

Post Office

A Journey Through Time: Celebrate Your Special Moments at The Post Office

The Post Office is a true historic landmark on the property. It served as the community's post office from 1886–1905. The road you take upon entering Sugarneck was the travel path from Fayetteville to Durham. Travelers would cross the Cape Fear river using Avent’s Ferry hence the naming of the main Highway 42 / Avent’s Ferry Road which takes you to Sugarneck. The newly renovated space is ideal for meetings, small gatherings and private dinners. The covered patio is often used for rehearsal dinners, cocktail hour and a beautiful place to relax.

We had our wedding at Sugarneck in May. The venue alone is stunning, incredibly well taken care of and immaculately clean. Add to that the dedication of Alicia and her team to plan and execute the most magical, flawless day - I wish I could give 10 stars! We chose Sugarneck because of its location and extremely reasonably priced packages. It truly took the stress out of the day as Alicia was always on top of any questions/concerns I had and brought my ideas to life in all areas. Despite a downpour after the ceremony, the day was flawless and the team worked so hard, always while providing top notch service to all our guests. The only thing I wish I had known ahead of time was the difficultly in guests getting Ubers after the event, while there was a shuttle bus that showed up that transported people, had I known, I would have either paid for it or given people a heads up as it was a little pricey. We spent the whole weekend there including hosting the rehearsal dinner which in itself was a fabulous time. We really felt like part of the family there and not just ‘renting the property’. We would not have asked for a more perfect venue and team to help us with our special day.
