About this venue
Located right outside of downtown Raleigh, you will find The Historic Wakefield Barn. Built in 1934 and renovated in 2017, the barn is a luxury wedding venue in North Raleigh unmatched in its scale and charm. This is the perfect barn wedding venue that can accommodate events large and small! The Historic Wakefield Barn is a National Historic Site that sits on 14 acres – the property includes a bridal suite, horse barn, the main barn and outdoor event spaces. The venue combines the barn’s history with subtle modern touches that result in a unique event space. The property is still an active horse farm, with two horses who live on-site named Mandatory, and Jackson!

The Stables
The Stables, located on the ground floor, are a great diverse space for cocktail hours, welcome parties, rehearsal dinners and more!
This space features our authentic horse barn look, that can fit up to 11 cocktail tables throughout the space. It includes 2 marble bars and a lounge area near our library!

The Patio
An expansive, private outdoor space that allows guests to take in all that our venue has to offer.
This beautiful outdoor space welcomes guests as they approach the venue! It makes for a great ceremony location, outdoor cocktail hour, or outdoor reception. Guests enjoy looking out at the 14 acres of paddocks and fields, taking in the view right next to the Stables, where they can get drinks, appetizers, and enjoy live music. Patio furniture and our fireplace make for a cozy getaway or a cigar lounge during your wedding.

The Great Hall
Our Main Hall is the primary space for our wedding parties. Located on the upper level of our Barn, the hall is a unique space for every party.
Built in 1934 and renovated in 2017, the Main Hall is adorned with 12 chandeliers, and 32 ft. ceilings. In total the hall has over 6,000 square feet, and is uses as both a ceremony and reception space. Additionally, bathrooms, two catering prep-rooms and a our Mezzanine are located on this floor.

A vendor's dream venue!
I recommend the Historic Wakefield Barn to anyone who will listen. My team and I have designed there on countless occasions, and we look forward to stepping into the gorgeous space every time. One of my favorite parts of the venue is a stunning grand staircase, which gives the space such an elegant, luxurious feel. The in house vendor team is always immaculate in how they manage the space, and as a vendor I feel like I can trust them 100% with every event.

The Historic Wakefield Barn is such a dream venue to get married at (and as a wedding planner, to work at). It’s gorgeous and grand from every angle, has a historical charm to it, and is a versatile space for all weddings, whether classic and timeless or bold and colorful. From a planner’s perspective, it’s also super functional. The flow between ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception is seamless, and vendor access is easy (which makes a huge difference for a smooth wedding day). On top of that, Brent and the rest of the team are always kind, professional, and genuinely collaborative - truly committed to excellence. It’s one of those venues that combines beauty and logistics in the best way, and I’m always excited when our couples choose it.
Breathtaking venue
As a local Wedding Planner I get to see and work at a lot of venues and hands down, the Historic Wakefield Barn is one of my favorites. The property is breathtaking, with the manicured lawns, outdoor patio space, stables, and upstairs barn space all being able to be uniquely customized to any wedding vision. Brent and the team are very hands-on throughout the whole planning process and the wedding day to make sure that guest experience and vendor experience is top notch. Any time I see that a couple has booked their wedding at the Historic Wakefield Barn I get so excited and can't wait to start planning their big day!
A Dreamy Elopement at The Historic Wakefield Barn
Long Overdue, but So Well Deserved! This review is long overdue, but our experience at The Historic Wakefield Barn deserves every bit of praise I can offer. We had the most perfect micro-wedding—just 13 people total—and everything about the day felt intimate, magical, and beautifully tailored to us. First and foremost, a massive thank you to Brent, the venue manager. Brent was exceptional from beginning to end—professional, calm, incredibly helpful, and genuinely accommodating in every way. In a world where venues often feel impersonal or rigid, Brent stood out as top tier. He made us feel like our small gathering was just as important as any full-scale wedding. That kind of attention and kindness makes all the difference. The barn itself is nothing short of exquisite. The charm, the history, the architecture, the serene setting—it’s all absolutely stunning. Whether you’re planning something grand or keeping it small like we did, this space offers a romantic, peaceful atmosphere that feels both timeless and intimate. From the warm wood tones to the gorgeous grounds, it was the perfect backdrop for a deeply meaningful celebration. Though our group was small, we never felt overlooked or like we were working with a scaled-down version of the venue experience. In fact, quite the opposite—the size allowed us to slow down, take in every detail, and truly enjoy the beauty of the barn and the people we love most. If you're considering an elopement or micro-wedding, I can’t recommend The Historic Wakefield Barn enough. The space speaks for itself, but the people—especially Brent—are what make it truly special.
