The house, known today as Reid Hall, was completed in 1908 and the family moved in on May 5, led by J. Ogden Armour, until approximately September of 1927. Many of the house’s mantle pieces, there are 15, and the paneling of the library reading room (or former living room), were imported from Paris, Vienna and London, including the marble dining room while the main walls are of Italian marble, the central panels of each wall have been painted over the plaster to simulate actual marble. It is also reputed that the marble staircase was built with the primary purpose in mind that their daughter, Lolita Ogden Armour, would descend the curving stairway on her wedding day, which she did in 1921, to John J. Mitchell, Jr. Eventually the property was sold to Lake Forest Academy where classes began in 1948. Today, Academy grounds total approximately 170 acres.

Friendship Botanic Gardens is a unique, beautiful setting for the outdoor wedding and other special events. Weddings are scheduled from mid-May through mid-October. Fountains splash, birds sing, and trees tower above. The Gardens include over one hundred acres of woods and landscaped areas, providing one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in Northwest Indiana. The Gardens can accommodate a small and intimate wedding ceremony of a few family and friends, or a larger wedding ceremony up to 300 guests. Friendship Botanic Gardens welcomes and honors all marriages of all types. We do not discriminate against anyone. All weddings include chairs, use of the area for three hours and rehearsal privileges. ERIS was inspired by the eponymous Greek goddess notorious for causing mayhem. As the story goes, Eris threw the golden apple of discord into a party that she wasn’t invited to, thus creating a chaotic scene as every goddess in attendance scrambled for its beauty. So how do we make an impression in a city of over 100 breweries? By throwing an apple into the party; we are making hard ciders, too. Brew Deck offers a semi-private space for get-togethers with sweeping views of the restaurant and brewery. The space exhibits an urban appearance, with exposed ceiling pipes and brick walls. These elements are balanced by warm furnishings and minimalistic decor for an elegant touch. Large terrace doors provide guests with access to the adjoining patio which can be opened if the weather conditions allow.

We began our journey in 2015 with a dusty gravel pit and vision for a new home. The gem was the stunning 30 acre crystal clear lake. After purchasing the property we found ourselves hosting church activities and work functions as people truly loved being here. Slowly we began adding amenities to the property. First a huge rope swing, (that we have since taken down). It was fun watching the kids fly into the water. Then the 110’ water slide kept all the kids smiling as they splashed into the lake. Then in 2020 our daughter was engaged to a great guy. As she began looking for that special place to host her wedding we came to realize that it was right here. We wanted it to be a very special place and we went to work.
