In 2000, Steven Nissen planted the first vines of what now has become a thirteen acre vineyard. The dream of Prairie Moon is to grow high quality grapes to create fine estate wines in the Midwest. With the unique growing season and agricultural environment, we believe our products reflect the ideal native Iowan wine. Among the acreage, there are many grape varieties. The luscious rows host hybrid and native American grapes that provide beautiful tastes to the palate. Prairie Moon encourages everyone to support Iowa wineries, alongside all local businesses!

The former home of cook-your-own-steaks, Old Oaks Steak House, south of Milan, has been transformed into Old Oaks Winery. The rear of the property contains several acres of now-mature vineyards, which are producing the grapes for Old Oaks wine. Our vision has always been to bring a Napa feel back to the Midwest. Old Oaks Winery has a tasting room and event space for more than 200.

The Buchanan House Mansion built in 1883 is now placed on the rolling his of the Buchanan House Winery and Vineyard. In 2009, the mansion was scheduled to be demolished. The Weaver Family of Tipton, sad to see it go, purchased the mansion and later moved it 7 miles to its new location. Now the mansion is the perfect place to host a small event for up to 40 guests. The 19-acre vineyard and garden make a beautiful place to host an outdoor ceremony and reception. All of our wine is made in the basement of the mansion and tasting room. Host an event at Buchanan House and have the choice of 30+ red, white, bubbly, sparkling, and port-style wines.

Our 1850's rustic barn is the perfect place for a one-of-a-kind wedding. How I wish our ancestors could see the old barn and corn crib that we converted into an Event Center, Tasting Room and Winery. Hold your wedding in our 4000 square foot Event Center or at our outdoor wedding shelter surrounded by 3 acres of beautifully landscaped yard and towering trees. Carper Winery is a rural venue just minutes from the Metro! The property comprises of 40 acres, complete with not only the Venue but a lush Vineyard, Willow trees, two ponds and tall golden prairie grass. Outdoor ceremony lawn with Pergola. Ceremony site overlooks the large pond, vineyard and beautiful hillside to create a picturesque backdrop. Guests will enjoy the outdoor patio lounge space during your welcome hour, cocktail hour, and well into the evening when the sun sets and the bistro lights create the perfect outdoor space. The climate controlled indoor space can seat up to 300 of your friends and family members to enjoy a beautiful dinner in your honor. The space is set with an overlooking mezzanine and loft to create a very intimate feeling for your event. Complete with bistro lights and chandeliers for the perfect ambiance as you enjoy your first dance as Husband and Wife.

Nestled amongst 12 acres of vineyard in the scenic countryside just south of Des Moines, Summerset Winery is a truly unique venue for your upcoming event. Our banquet hall and outdoor ceremony space can seat up to 250 guests and our tent can seat up to 400 guests! Be it large or small, our facility offers a beautiful venue for every type of event. Also located on the vineyard just steps from the winery is the Inn at Summerset Winery, which is a bed & breakfast style home available to rent for your wedding party. Our vineyard, banquet facility and Inn, have everything you need to make your event one to remember.
