My husband and I settled on our happy place, Highlands, NC as the perfect location to get married. We stumbled upon Flat Mountain Farm & immediately fell in love with the property. Our ceremony was small & included all of our closest friends and family members. No matter what season you decide to get married, this property will be STUNNING. The owners, Margaret and Chris, have a beautiful story and unique professional background. Margaret has thought of absolutely everything to deliver a magical experience. There is so much charm on every foot of the property- if you're looking for a destination wedding that allows you to stay ON SITE, this is IT! Each place to stay (The Wren, The Kingfisher, The Peregrine) have the most thoughtful touches & elevated views. The design of each space is detailed, classy, & has tons of personality. Margaret allows her guests to "personalize" their wedding experience so that each wedding or event planned is truly one of a kind. Celebrate outside by the pond, inside the restored barn, or by a waterfall! The versatility of the property makes planning an event so much more memorable! Our wedding at this venue was truly unforgettable. After nearly two years of planning, the day finally arrived and it became the most magical, ethereal celebration we could’ve imagined. From our very first visit, we knew this place was something special, and a huge part of that was Lesley, the venue owner. She made us feel welcomed, valued, and completely equal from the start, something that was heartbreakingly rare for us to find as a two-bride wedding. Her warmth and sincerity were a major reason we chose this space. Throughout the planning process, Lesley was such a steady, supportive presence. Her recommendations from our florist to the chef ended up being everything we hoped for and so much more. It felt like she intuitively understood our vision and connected us with people who brought it to life with care and creativity. One thing we appreciated more than we can express was how she opened up the vineyard and cottages to us even before the wedding letting us enjoy the space, breathe it in, and feel like it was already a part of our story. Those moments made the venue feel like home long before we officially said “I do.” On the wedding day itself, everything was seamless. Her team was calm, organized, and genuinely invested in making sure we could just be present. Not once did we feel stressed every detail flowed naturally, letting us soak in every second of the day we’d spent nearly two years dreaming up. The property is breathtaking in every direction. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful it was and how smooth the entire celebration felt. We’re endlessly grateful for Lesley and her team, and we truly can’t wait to come back and celebrate anniversaries, milestones, and all the moments ahead in the place that started our forever.

The property is absolutely beautiful and Andrea and her family were amazing to work with. They were the most gracious hosts and super accommodating for our weekend. We rented the venue from Friday-Sunday for us and the wedding party, which was so convenient for our friends coming from out of state. Andrea also helped me coordinate with all of my vendors, which made the weekend go much smoother than if I had done it all myself. Every single one of our guests had nothing but great things to say about the venue and the experience. We hope to come back and stay for an anniversary trip some day! If you're looking for a secluded yet beautiful venue to host a small wedding or get together, I highly highly recommend The Willow and Whisk.

Awarded Best of Zola
I heard about Heyward Manor before it was officially complete. A friend was able to give us contact information and told us that we “just had to check it out.” At that time, when I googled Heyward Manor, I couldn’t find a single thing about it; however, I chose to trust my friend and reach out to the venue because it couldn’t hurt to visit. After making that phone call and speaking with Libby Black the first time, I wanted so badly for this venue to fit my wedding vision. I knew she would be great to work with. I wasn’t really sure what to expect during our visit, but we were welcomed to Heyward Manor with open arms, and it did not take long for us to fall in love with this special place. The venue is simply beautiful, and it had everything I wanted – long farmhouse tables, outdoor and indoor ceremony options, string lights, a lovely landscape, air conditioning, plenty of accessible parking, the most beautiful bridal suite, a unique space for groomsmen, stunning chandeliers, and characteristics that complemented the boho vibe that I love so much. Of all the venues I had visited, this was the one that I could actually envision my wedding taking place at. My family and I also instantly connected with Carol and Libby, and we knew that they would take good care of us. As a Christian, I felt so comfortable working with people of great faith. They live it out and share the love of Christ at every opportunity. My family was especially drawn to that. My husband and I got married at Heyward Manor on June 20, 2020 (yes, in the midst of the pandemic), and, looking back several years later, I still feel so blessed and grateful that God provided such a wonderful place for us to celebrate the best day of our lives. I think back on that day with so much joy as it was truly a dream come true. Heyward Manor was not only the most beautiful venue, but it was so accommodating, especially during such a difficult time. As June got closer and closer that year, I didn’t know what to expect from the venue. Everybody else I knew that was getting married during that time had to change their plans in some way. But Libby reassured me that my wedding would go on as planned. She explained everything they were going to do in relation to Covid precautions, and it made me feel so at ease. My whole family is extremely grateful for Heyward Manor, and everything the team did to help my wedding become a reality. Libby and her husband came out to help us with anything we needed that day, and the Heyward Manor team will always make sure you are seeing your vision come to life. This team was truly wonderful to work with, and I enjoyed getting frequent phone calls from them, keeping me updated throughout the whole process. Our wedding day was absolutely amazing! Everyone loved the venue, and guests still talk about how beautiful it was. I really could go on and on about the things we love about Heyward Manor, but I feel that anyone who steps foot on the grounds will feel the way we felt there – at home. Heyward Manor will always hold such a special place in my heart, and I love taking every opportunity I can to go back and visit.

Why Is South Carolina the Perfect Wedding Destination?

South Carolina offers a wedding landscape that's truly unforgettable. You'll find historic Charleston mansions with breathtaking 18th-century architecture, oak-lined plantation entrances that create dramatic photo opportunities, and Lowcountry waterfront settings showcasing spectacular marsh views. Looking for variety? The state delivers everything from coastal properties with sweeping Atlantic Ocean panoramas to secluded barrier island venues that capture South Carolina's natural beauty at its finest. June tops the popularity charts for venue inquiries despite the summer heat; those coastal sea breezes make all the difference.

What's the Average Cost of a Wedding Venue in South Carolina?

What Questions Should You Ask Before Booking a South Carolina Venue?

Ask about exclusive catering requirements since historic venues often limit kitchen facilities for preservation reasons. Get clarity on exact rental periods as many venues offer limited time windows instead of full-day access which affects your timeline. Understand capacity limitations particularly for historic properties with preservation restrictions that might impact your guest list. Request specifics on accessibility features beyond basic ADA compliance to ensure all guests feel welcome. For waterfront venues inquire about preferred tent vendors for rain contingencies; you'll want options that complement the setting while providing proper protection.

How Do Seasonal Considerations Affect South Carolina Venue Selection?

Charleston faces hurricane risk from June through November with August bringing peak humidity that can challenge outdoor events. Greenville venues enjoy cooler temperatures than coastal locations giving you more comfort flexibility during summer months. June leads venue inquiry timing despite potential heat challenges because coastal venues benefit from refreshing sea breezes that inland locations can't match. Smart couples look for venues with climate-controlled backup options; an essential feature given South Carolina's sometimes unpredictable summer weather patterns that can shift from perfect to problematic quickly.
